Going to the Super Bowl?

Recommended Posts

Went to the wild card game vs. Indy and made the trip up to foxboro this past weekend. Quick sidenote that I feel I should mention - Pats fans were classy and welcoming, despite the reputation that preceded them. In any case, I'm considering making the trip to NO to see my boys play in the big one. Wanted to see if anyone on here could weigh in with advice based on their past experiences...

- tickets to the game? I've heard wait until the day of and scalp. Anyone done it with success?

- places to stay? Anyone gone in new Orleans and stayed somewhere outside the city on the cheap?

- flights? Obviously not flying into new Orleans, but considering Jackson, panama city, Atlanta, and other cities. Again, anyone done it?

TIA

Were you at my tailgate last week?

I went to NOLA 11 years ago. Flew into Mobile, AL. Got a room in the French quarter on eBay. There was no Craigslist at the time. I had tix already, but you can get them if you are willing to pay.

Thanks - I'll look into Mobile, AL. Don't think I was at your tailgate - I was at one with all purple in lot 52.

I've been to SB XXII and XXVI and each time got tickets within 12 hours of the game, best advice never quit asking.XXII I hung out at what was called the NFL Headquarters,(a hotel for the brass, former players, some media etc.)and had no luck and left about 3 a.m. to return around 8 a.m. and got lucky and ran into a guy who sold me two.

XXVI,went bar hopping with a friend from 5p.m. to almost 2 a.m.(we split up to ask as many people as possible)and my friend Tony got lucky with two tickets around 2 a.m.Keep in mind that's back when face value was anywhere from $125 to $175 each and for XXII I paid $500 for two and we paid $600 for two for XXVI.I don't even know what face must be up to by now but good luck to you it's a great time and experience.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Haven't made your plans yet to head to Indianapolis for the Super Bowl? Hope your credit card has some room on it -- tickets are going to cost you thousands of dollars over face value.

Resale site StubHub is reporting a median ticket price of $2,800. And Ticket Exchange reports a median price of $3,623. Both prices are off slightly from a year ago.

The cheapest seat sold so far on Ticket Exchange, the NFL's official resale site run by IAC/InterActiveCorp. (IACI) unit Ticketmaster, is $2,614 in Section 422 in the upper corner, while the highest price paid was $17,048 on the 40-yard line.

The face value of Super Bowl tickets run from $800 to $1,200, but they are never made available at that price to the average fan. Instead, they are reserved for season ticket holders, league sponsors and other favored groups.

Got to see the faggard formerly known as Prince perform "Purple Rain" in what felt like freezing rain at the Colts/Bears match in Miami. I won tix, so I can't really help you with your quandaries, but can tell you it was quite the experience. Good Luck. And to echo...wear kevlar.

Find the closet bathroom to your seat and the shortest route to & from it.If you have to go try & pick a time you think there might be a lull in the game or God forbid, a lengthy injury timeout. Don't even attempt it between quarters or halftime. Eat plenty before the game so you're not starvin' during the game. Lasty, enjoy the experience and make sure you root for the 49ers. GO 49ers!!!

Ray, I live in Mobile and fly quite a bit. Check the cost of flying into and out of Biloxi/Gulfprt. The fares are usually much better than Mobile because the Casino's in Mississippi keep the fares down...usually by a few hundred $$ per round trip flight. Plus, that puts you a god 45 min closer to N.O. Good luck, and enjoy the game. BTW, you MUST have the char-grilled oysters at Dragos in N.O.
