SLIDELL, La. - A 10-month-old girl was accidentally run over in her Slidell area driveway Thursday night, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.

 

The call that a father had accidentally driven over his child, who had unknowingly crawled out of the house, came in around 5:15 p.m., deputies said.

 

The home is located on Lenwood Drive, off of Brownswitch Road north of Interstate-12.

 

Deputies say the father was doing work on his car in front of the home, and the family pets got loose.

 

While the pets were being located, the child wandered out of the house. The father return to the car and as he pulled back into the driveway, the car he was driving ran over his daughter.

 

The Sheriff says this is just a case of a terrible accident.

 

"The fact that these horrible accidents do occur, it makes us all reflect and realize that life truly is precious and we better pay attention to the things that are important to us," said St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Jack Strain.

 

Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor and no arrests are expected to be made.
