I'm bored. Lets talk about this card early.

Ben Henderson vs. Gilbert Melendez

Melendez is the long time Strikeforce LW champ and top 5 LW. He brings a similar style to Bendo, but not as big and not as athletic. Bendo has been pretty solid as of late and seemingly getting better. Gilbert is helped by the fact that Nate Diaz is his close training partner and just fought Ben Henderson. I think this will be a good fight, but Henderson takes a pretty decisive decision, where he uses better wrestling and athleticism to control the fight.

Pick: Henderson 49-46 UD.

Danial Cormier vs. Frank Mir

Cormier won the Strikeforce HW tournement easily disposing Josh Barnett. He also has a KO win over Bigfoot Silva to his credit. He is a former wrestling Olympian and would have placed in 2008, but had to withdraw due to liver failure, most likely from life long weight cutting. He is a small HW, who appears chubby, but he is a supreme athlete and has stood up to and beat very big HWs. His wrestling is some of the best in all of MMA, and his hands are better each time out. He has nice timing and composure. Mir is a BJJ specialist. He gets overrated a lot by people due to his long time UFC run and mouth. His striking is overrated by his fans and himself. He is pretty average everywhere besides with the sub game, where he is perhaps one of the best in the game. But DC won't let him get this to the ground. And DC will probably hit Mir's iffy chin until he falls.

Pick: Cormier TKO round 2.

Nate Diaz vs. Josh Thomson

Thomson is also a Strikeforce guy and former champ. He is coming off a very close loss to Melendez. Nate also holds the advantage of his training partner Melendez, fighting Thomson 3 times in his career, which should help with game planning. Thomson is game wherever the fight goes. Nate has great boxing and BJJ, but is often taken down. Nate I believe is the betetr fighter, but Thomson could put him on the ground and may have enough to stay out of subs. I am too much of a Diaz fan to pick Thomson. He could potentially sub Thomson even tho Josh is a blackbelt. But more likely I think he stuffs enough or gets back up enough and out-boxes him.

Pick: Diaz by UD.

Jordan Mein vs. Matt Brown

Brown has been on a tear as of late. He is fairly well-rounded and tough as hell. Mein is a young prospect who has also been on a tear and looking to be a very good up and comer. Brown is dangerous with his aggressive style, but Mein is too much for him. Mein took this on short notice after dominating his UFC debut. He looks to keep momentum on his side as he gets better each fight.

Pick: Mein TKO round 2.

Can't see Bendo losing unless Aldo comes up to fight him.

Cormier I have heard about but never seen -- I am looking forward to seeing this -- and if he is really any good. The HW division disappointed me after Overeem got beat up by a average BF Silva. Just says how bad Lesnar really was.. Nate Diaz is always entertaining to watch.

Coming out of this it would be nice if Cormier turned out to be a true HW contender to fight Cain.

DC trains at AKA with Cain and is actually his wrestling coach/trainer. They said they wouldn't fight, and that is one reason why Cormier wants to go down to 205. His frame isn't made for HW, but in the past he has had kidney or liver issues. So cutting a bunch may not be best for his health. Would be a hell of a fight if they did, and I'm sure Dana will try to get them to fight.

DC just slaughtered Josh Barnett like no one else really has. Barnett is a good wrestler, and DC just tossed him around as if he was a 160lb man not 260lbs. He also dropped and finished Bigfoot early, something Overeem couldn't do.

Hard to imagine him keeping it up at his size ( he is basically Roy Nelson like). But he has passed every test so far.

Why was Benson booed.... He's not my favorite but he is a good fighter and the right decision was given.

Probably because 1) San Jose is full of Mexicans, and 2) neither of those guys wanted to fight.

It almost felt like watching a scripted fight. Both guys danced around for 5 rounds, and then the climatic split decision finish, which will ofcourse lead to a rematch. Why go out there and actually fight once, when you can make way more fake fighting two or three times.

I thought it was a decent fight or at least better than Mir - Cormier was when DC just grabbed him and push him to the cage all fight. I just don't like Bendo as IMO he is slightly more entertaining fighter than GSP. Both Bendo and GSP are great fighters but their game is built to go 5 rounds and win on points.

ETA: I do wish Edgar was still champ as he was exciting to watch fight.

DC/Mir wasn't amazing. But I think people are spoiled or at least come too expect too much. I would have to watch it again as I was a little drunk. But DC landed some hard shots coming in and hard shots in the clinch. Mir actually clinched many of those times for no real reason, then DC turned him. DC would normally drop whoever on their head in those situations. But Mir is so good on the ground that DC didn't want to do that. Most any other HW he would have rag dolled. Not every HW fight will end in a KO. I thought DC landed some real good shots just not THE SHOT. Mir's weakness is against the cage as seen in Carwin fight. The crowd boo'd (as they did too much) and DC actually pushed off and said screw it I will strike. They seemed to always end up in that position though.

I thought the Gil/Bendo fight was good. I thought Melendez won but it wasn't some robbery. But I thought Melendez did real good, and the punch stats they showed seemed off. Melendez is pretty much the hometown fighter there and they were rooting for him, that is a big reason Bendo was boo'd. Also Henderson is pretty unlikeable in a way, I don't care for him. And his little proposal was goofy. I thought it was a good fight though, Gilbert won't be getting a rematch right away, but I bet they fight again.

Getting sick of the Diaz's. Been a fan of them for a while now, but they are so stubborn and it is starting to catch up to them. Nate was defending himself like an idiot and was ripe for the head kick. Diaz bros have some of the best chins in MMA, but you can't take multiple flush headkicks. Fighters have figured out how to frustrate them by playing keep away, circling and kicking from the outside. Nate was chasing all night and forgot he can still get kicked in the face if he isn't careful. That was the first time Nate have ever been KO/TKO'd. First Diaz bro to go down on strikes since Nick Diaz was 19 years old.

Not sure what Mobb is talking about. I thought Bendo/Gil was on pace for fight of the year so far. They did slow down a bit in the 4th and 5th. But through 3 I thought it was a hell of a fight.

You thought Nate Diaz was good? He is a good person to throw to a champion or a great fighter for a good undercard fight because he is all stand up and likes to fight(which might be the only reason Dana lets him stick around now). I agree Bendo /Gilbert was a toss up but I had it 3-2 Bendo based on activity but I was rooting for Gilbert who by FAR threw the more meaningful punches -- but bendo out struck him by so much though. I thought Gilbert won the 1st clearly and Bendo the second and 5th clearly -- the rest of the rounds could be argued either way -- I wouldn't call it FOTY but I will say it was a good fight to watch.

Just a shame we have to wait so long for another great fight - as the Next PPV has a Meh undercard and WTF title fight as Sonnen has ZERO chance of lasting 1 round. With Spider he at least had the advantage on the ground with Jones has no advantage. Why not give that fight to Machida as he has maybe fought Bones the toughest of anyone. I just hope after Bones beats Machida II -- he will either move to heavyweight or at least make it known he wants Spider.

He still is good. He was widely regarded as a top 5 LW. And still is a top 10 or so. He trashed Donald Cerrone and Jim Miller....both top 10 LWs. He is up there for most sub finishes in the UFC...so to say he is all stand up is sort of crazy. I am a fan of his because he comes to fight, has a hell of a chin, will box you up, or slap a sub on if you take him down. Yea, maybe he will never be champ, but he is a good fighter. And far from ever being cut by the UFC.

I don't feel Bendo out-struck him by that much. I feel the punch stats were off. It was close, but I don't like to give it to a guy that was "more active" by dancing around and throwing more useless strikes. Melendez was calculated and threw strikes for a purpose rather than to "stay busy". I have no problem with the decision, but I had Gilbert 48-47.

Yea not a huge fan of the next card. But the couple cards after that are real good. Shogun/Nog, Rashad/Hendo, JDS/Mark Hunt all awesome fights.

Anyone catch the Canelo/Trout fight? I didn't but heard Canelo cruised. Big fan of him, kid is only 21. Mayweather wouldn't think about giving him a chance.

Ummmmmm Mayweather wanted to fight him Oscar is the person that didn't want to allow that fight as he doesn't think the White Mexican is ready. That would be the next logical Mayweather fight ... Would love for Mayweather to fight him in his home town of Guadalajara - he is going to be booed anyway. Mayweather has lost some quickness and has tried to counter it with more power but I cannot see him fighting more than 1 or 2 more fights after this. If it's one more fight we all know who he is going to want (Pac man or JMM) if it's 2 more than Alverez is likely the next fight setting up JMM or Pac as the final fight.

If you think he (Alvarez) would actually beat Mayweather  - While Mayweather won't win over any fans with his fighting style -- he is one of the greatest in ring tacticians ever and maybe has the best defense of any fighter ever or at least that I have seen and I have been watching boxing since the early 80's.

I guess there are rumors that he could fight Mayweather in September. I would applaud Floyd for once if he did give this kid a shot. I never said Canelo would win, I would just actually like to see Mayweather fight a real contender who isn't the smaller man, past his prime, or flat out inferior.

I'll believe this fight goes down when I see it. Floyd may have said he wanted that fight, but Mayweather is in promotion mode 24/7. I don't take him seriously when he talks. He'll probably find a way to fight JMM again.

Oscar is on record as saying he DOES NOT! want Canelo to fight Mayweather at least not as of yet as he doesn't think he is ready. Maybe Oscar has changed his mind recently I don't know. Since Golden Boy and Mayweather Promotions are linked - Oscar would need to sign off for this fight. I know he wanted Canelo instead of Cotto but Oscar wouldn't do it this time since there not fighting I don't know who declined. I know Mayweather has lost some speed (still is probably the fastest fighter out there but not the huge gap there once was). Canelo is very very good fighter and he is really young - most likely the next "great" fighter and if I was Oscar I wouldn't want him to fight Mayweather either unless I knew Mayweather had lost a lot and Canelo had him............ Why kill your future bell cow with a loss for 1 big pay day. He loses to Mayweather at the end of Mayweathers career noone will ever consider him a truly "great" fighter. I would try and get Canelo to fight Bradley who I think he would destroy but Bradley is top Rank so that might be tough. If I am Mayweather I beat this guy - then fight JMM in a rematch ( that I doubt goes any different than the first fight where he won every round) and end his career with the Pac Man fight. Both of those fights would make a lot more money and a lot more sense all around.

Unfortunately boxing isn't UFC where Dana can just say who fights who. Thats the only thing I miss about Don King - he was the worlds biggest scumbag (especially for what he did to Ali) but he always made sure the biggest fights happened.

I know you have to ultimately protect your money. But that is the problem with boxing plain and simple. I'm sure Canelo would love the opportunity and should speak up, but he is only a kid. It isn't about the challenge anymore. Whatever to make a few more million to just ultimately piss away anyway. It is sad that a JMM rematch would make so much more, as a fan, and not even a big hardcore fan exactly, I don't want to see that fight. And other than crazy messicans (which make up a big chunk) I don't get why boxing fans eat that up and would pay for it? MMA has been around not nearly as long, and the fans are generally more casual than boxing fans....but if there isn't a fight they care for, they won't buy it. MMA fans don't let the promoter off the hook, they demand relevant fights.

Not that many MMA fighters don't use something illegal nor other boxers. But JMM was juiced out of his mind vs. Manny. Hardcore, anabolic roids juiced. There is no point in JMM/Mayweather 2. The defensive specialist vs. the counter puncher. Awesome.

I won't argue that most Mayweather fights aren't really great to watch (though the Cotto fight was good when he opened up a little - of course when he opened up he got hit). ANY Mayweather fight wouldn't be that great to watch unless he opens up like he did with Cotto (something I bet never happens again). Mayweather - JMM are huge names and even though Mayweather would kill him ( as he is the best defensive fighter and the better counter puncher...... who hits first when they are both counter punchers? ) that fight would bring in twice the money. Why is JMM Juiced? Has this been proven? I do know PacMan hasn't been the same since being in political office. I am a boxing fan just upset there really is no other division other than Welterweight :(
