phillybear 366 Posted March 12, 2014 I would really hate to lose Giacomini. He's the enforcer of that O Line. Yeah, that is the free agent at this point that I'd hate to lose the most. I guess the line will be Okung, Unger, Sweezey, see if Bailey and Bowie fit in the other two spots, or they draft/sign someone else.
phillybear 366 Posted March 12, 2014 Why are we entertaining Finley? Dude doesn't block and he can't catch. Green Bay connection with John Schneider. Coming off an injury, so he isn't going to be expensive. Some very good metrics in speed and getting separation and being a red zone target. Up until last season, his durability has been good. His catching has improved. His blocking would be the concern. I guess the vision is to have a game changing pass catching TE to pair up with Percy Harvin to throw defenses into chaos. Anthony McCoy has butter fingers. Zach Miller makes too much money. Luke Willson didn't do much last year.
phillybear 366 Posted March 12, 2014 Chris Maragos signs with Philadelphia Eagles. Not a fan of this stiff. I wanted a better backup to Earl Thomas anyway.

Luke Willson didn't do much last year. I thought Willson had a nice rookie year for a 5th/6th round pick. McCoy showed flashes in 2012 so I can understand the Hawks bringing him back, but the real stunner for me so far is that the Hawks have not cut or restructured Miller at his current price. Why wouldn't they do at least a restructure so that they could possibly keep a Giacomini? I definitely want Miller on the team, dependable hands a great blocker, but not at that price. Kopy 571 Posted March 12, 2014 Clinton McDonald signs with Tampa Bay for a shocking amount of money. O'Brien Scoefield signs with NY Giants for a shocking amount of money. Golden Tate visiting with Detroit Walter Thurmond visiting with Jacksonville Edit: Breno Giacomini visiting with the NY Jets Well, other than Jax and Gus Bradley continuing to pick over our leftovers (Will Blackmon, Winston Guy, Red Bryant), we are due to get a bunch of compensation picks in 2015 for teams eager to pick up our leftovers who we didn't pick up with much capital to begin with. Sweet. Visiting or talking with Seattle: Jared Allen DE, Jermichael Finley TE, Jason Hatcher DT, Taylor Price WR, No problem with Hatcher. Why Price? Why Finley? And why Allen? Not that I'd hate to have Allen in a rotation. But if we can't potentially afford to keep Clemmons. Then how can we potentially offer him a deal?
phillybear 366 Posted March 12, 2014 I'm somewhat baffled as to what San Fran is doing. They let Whitner walk away and then sign the human turnstile Bethea for the same money. Bethea allowed 2/3 of all passes thrown in his direction to be completed last year. Then, they trade to Blaine Gabbert. I guess they want to corner the market on QBs who can't read a defense. Then, they trade for the biggest sissy in football history, Jonathan Martin. Are you kidding me? This team is going to implode.
Kopy 571 Posted March 12, 2014 I expect Tony McDanial to resign by the end of the day btw. I'm all for this. Also, I don't believe Tate will leave Detroit. It looks like 7 mil a year is in the works. He'd be crazy to keep looking for other work with an over pay like that. Hate to see him go. But I believe all of us here were in total agreement not to over pay for him. And between him and Baldwin, Baldwin was the more important wr.

Then how can we potentially offer him a deal? Kick the tires, see what the asking price is. No harm in talking. Seattle has become a place everybody wants to visit as a free agent. Amazing. They must have liked Price during the draft and didn't land him. He was the teammate of Phil Bates of Ohio U, and we've kept Bates on the roster or practice squad for years, so there's that connection. He seems like a big play WR and went in the 3rd round to New England initially, but he's been hurt the past couple of years. So, like the typical way the front office does it, bring in a guy whose value is low for some reason, like injury, and see what you got.

He has versatility and can play multiple positions and techniques on the line. Plus, he's as big as an apartment building. I guess the team chose to keep him over Clinton McDonald, who went to Tampa Bay in a bit of a revenge spot for us swiping away Michael Bennett last season. That's a trade I'll make any day. Hard to believe Detroit isn't investing in their defense, but when they are depending on the likes of Kris Durham (remember that bust) to line up opposite Calvin Johnson, you have to do something. Tate will have a nice career catching those weird backpedaling throws from Matt Stafford. Geez, 7 million per season. Wow. Baldwin will cost us about 2 million this year. Groundhog 24 Posted March 12, 2014 Chris Maragos signs with Philadelphia Eagles. Not a fan of this stiff. I wanted a better backup to Earl Thomas anyway. Yeah, the drop off in quality from Earl to Maragos was pretty high. Which is in part a testament to Earl and in part an indictment of Maragos. I think we can do better than that. I guess the line will be Okung, Unger, Sweezey, see if Bailey and Bowie fit in the other two spots, or they draft/sign someone else. Bailey and Bowie look viable to me, and Bailey especially can handle multiple spots on the OL, including LT if needed. But if we lose Giacomini and Fat Ginger then our depth on the offensive line is shot to hell. This means we need some fresh troops to arrive via draft or free agency. Prefer draft. Rob Staton over at Seahawksdraftblog is a big advocate of Joel Bitonio (Nevada) at 1.32 but I have not seen the tape yet.

I don't know anything about him either, but I'm not that good at the oline scouting. I never even realised that the 49ers stole Ryan Seymore off our practice squad. They took him in week 3, and he started the rest of the season. I thought he was an ace in the hole for us, and that he was better than both Bailey and Bowie. But that the 3 of them from last years draft would carry us into the future. I thought the kid got hurt and was on the DL, it totally got by me. I noticed him last season when I was scouting Zac Stacy in the Vanderbilt tapes. F'n niners. That totally p!sses me off.
Kopy 571 Posted March 12, 2014 After a morning filled with plenty of beer and pizza (and of course over analysis). I'd be very happy with the resigning of McDaniel and the signing of Hatcher. Now I wait and see.
Groundhog 24 Posted March 12, 2014 My guess, we're probably going OL and WR in some combination in the 1st two rounds. This is a poor draft for the defensive line, which is another reason why signing Bennett was so key for us. We have no 3rd rounder because of Harvin. For rds 4 and 5, I'd like to see LB and DB. We may need LBs because we won't necessarily keep all of Wagner, Wright and Irvin after next season, and DB because a 5th rounder spent on the secondary is right in our wheelhouse. Groundhog 24 Posted March 12, 2014 Tate is rumored to have taken less money to go to Detroit. Mind boggling taken less money than from whom? From Seattle? This I doubt. I think we were prepared to pay the man in the range of $4m-$5m per year, tops, not $6m+. But I could see him taking less money than from some team that does not have a decent QB to throw to him. bsballkingben99 2 Posted March 12, 2014 How are you guys feeling about our WR situation? We've got Harvin, Kearse, most likely Baldwin, the guy from CFL, and Lockette. Do you think we MUST draft a WR in the first or second round since we just lost Tate? Harvin, Kearse and Baldwin are all keepers. The CFL guy is a wait-and-see, and Lockette too is a wait-and-see. We promote competition for every position on the field anyway, so I don't doubt that they will bring in some guys for a look, but I definitely think we will be using some draft capital on WRs because we cannot count on Harvin playing all 16 games. Also keep in mind that (1) the draft easily has 7 WRs with first-round talent, and (2) it's a position of need. I liked Tate a lot, but not at $6m/season. Not with this draft class. phillybear 366 Posted March 12, 2014 Tony McDaniel resigned. WR Taylor Price is about to sign a deal with Seattle. Apparently he was rated the same at Tate on Seattle's draft board that year. O'Brien Schofield failed his physical with the Giants. The Giants caught a bunch of sh!t for giving him too much money and found an excuse to get out of the deal. phillybear 366 Posted March 12, 2014 How are you guys feeling about our WR situation? We've got Harvin, Kearse, most likely Baldwin, the guy from CFL, and Lockette. Do you think we MUST draft a WR in the first or second round since we just lost Tate? They made splashes with big moves for pricey guys like Harvin and Rice. But they only allot so much money towards a position in their cap philosophy, so they are likely going to go cheap to offset Harvin's salary. Ergo, they don't sign Tate for big money. They keep Baldwin at a modest deal. I don't think we need to worry about going to many 4 WR sets in the future, but maybe the interest in Jermichael Finley is to add depth to the ball receivers in another creative way. The track record for digging up guys out of nowhere is decent. Undrafted guys like Angry Doug Baldwin, Jevon Kearse, and to some extent Ricardo Lockette. They even got a year out of fat Mike Williams. Meanwhile, real draft capital investment has yielded bad returns. Golden Tate was a 2nd round pick with modest success, but they busted with 4th round Chris Harper, 4th round Kris Durham. I think they will find enough guys to fill out the roster. Hell, Kearse and Stephen Williams were pleasant surprises this year coming out of camp. Not worried. And we'll probably draft a WR at some point.
