robb 78 Posted August 13, 2017 I have completed my Defense Team By Committee module (I used to do it every year at FFToday) showing which teams make the best Combo for the year. And, you can adjust it for in-season rankings as well. This is not for owners who pick one defense and keep them all year, but best used for streaming if your waivers are best suited for this strategy. Send me an email at: robbaustin@gmail.com if you would like me to send you a copy along with the instructions on how to maximize the value of this tool. Any guesses on the 2 teams that have the best schedules to stream?? And, the 2 teams who are not in any Top 5 defenses which make the best combo? Thank you all very much.

Frozenbeernuts 2,140 Posted August 13, 2017 Patriots. That's all you need. I can't believe Houston and AZ were drafted before them in my latest free agent draft
jgcrawfish 232 Posted August 28, 2017 I'm going to take this opportunity to pump my boy Robb's work on this Defense by Committee spreadsheet he does. The first year I used it I ended up using 4 different defenses and my combined total for the season was an average of 3+ pts per game better than the best single defense. Every year he's had time to do it I've used it to good success. Best part is that you can adjust the offensive team strengths as the season goes and refine the defensive matchups as you go. It's good stuff.

If you stream defenses (i.e. not use auction money for a defense), then this tool may help some of you taking 2 defenses late in the draft. I am always open to suggestions on how to improve it or better explain it in the instructions, so send me your suggestions!!
jgcrawfish 232 Posted August 28, 2017 That Seattle/Jax combo is juicy, but Jacksonville has so many good combos. For anybody interested...in the past I've taken the defensive rankings on NFL.com for points and yards and created a spreadsheet with them. I rank each team by points scored and yardage gained, then average the rankings of the two. One year I factored in time of possession and special teams rankings (since both of those affect the defenses I use...but that was a bit too much work in the end). I use the sheet I generate to rank the teams in Robb's Defensive by Committee Combo sheet on the input tab. I do it about every 2 weeks so it gives me sort of a running update for the best match-ups. About week 6 or so I start looking at the best combos for playoffs only. For lack of a better way to put it, I use the sh!t out of this thing. Robb should get paid for this thing, and he gets way less accolades for it than he should.
JT Fox 1 Posted August 31, 2017 Robb. Thanks for sending the spreadsheet through, very interesting. Am I right in assuming that all defences are treated as neutral? An alternate use: - If you ranked each team, (1 been best), defensively by position, (one spreadsheet per position), would this then give you a QB SOS, RB SOS etc. The reds would by tough games and the grey easy. Handy for streaming any position. Cheers PS Drafted MIN & NE in the 13th & 14th rounds. Spread sheet suggest using IND and JAC after excluding rostered defences. Correct, I am not judging the quality of the team defenses. That is something each player should do on their own when deciding who to draft. I suppose you could plug in Defenses in the "input Rankings" tab and therefore show SOS for offensive teams, but not sure how you'd get positions, hadn't thought of it that way. But, to remain consistent, I would make the BEST team a "10".
JT Fox 1 Posted September 1, 2017 Hi Robb. Football Outsiders have a nice selection of stats and rankings. EG. Using data from FO and your spread sheet I could map out SOS for WR2s. Handy for streaming those back up players. Cheers
