IMMensaMind 460 Posted November 16, 2017 And, within that article, is another attempt to shape perceptions for the purpose of furthering an agenda. Right in the middle of the story is a hotlink to another story, where a father wants his son to play football "because it toughens you up". That link - worded the way it was - was intentional. It is to condition readers to recoil at the notion of football, and drive another stake into yet another aspect of Americana: tackle football. More poisoning the well by the archleft. Toyko Rose would be proud of these craptastic piles. That isn't to take away one single thing from the realities of this disease; it's obviously terrible. Life has risks; CTE appears to be one of them. How many Americans would trade their current realities to be suddenly endowed with the physical abilities to take a shot in the NFL, even with the risk of CTE omnipresent. I'm guessing millions.

vuduchile 1,941 Posted November 16, 2017 I've loved football ever since I can remember. I played it as a kid and thru HS. I'm still a fan of both college and pro ball. I even go to the local HS games on Friday night. Having said all that, I'm still unsure if I want my kids to play. Granted they can, and in fact have gotten hurt in flag football and other sports. But I'm still uneasy about it. Being in the trenches with your friends and teammates is a great experience and can reinforce lots of positive life lessons. But at what cost? I used to love watching boxing too. But that doesn't mean I want my sons to fight.
IMMensaMind 460 Posted November 16, 2017 Take away the pads and the helmets and this will solve the problem. I agree with this. I would like to see statistics on rugby, or even (probably especially) soccer. I have to believe that constant headers of soccer balls results in this as well, but for some (shocking) reason, soccer is not in the crosshairs. Back to leatherheads. They'll relearn the correct way to tackle tout suite.

wiffleball 4,649 Posted November 16, 2017 Tell you what, test some CPAs, some barbers, some butchers, and a few engineers. If they all come back negative for CTE, then we might actually have something Beyond junk science.
