So, lets say the day after inject and kill him, someone comes up and admits they were the one that committed the crime, and basically that new person "proves" they committed the crime and that they killed the wrong guy.

Yes they COULD kill the 'new' guy but I doubt they'd do it as they'd be admitting they killed the wrong guy. It'd be just another 'conspiracy theory' that they'd laugh off.
