On days like today, when I'm close enough after two, it allow me to take a shot and with a  a bit of luck, I can land them. Then there are days like yesterday where the first two picks give me nothing to work with, in which case pick three requires me to go toss in five new letters and pray something shakes out quickly. Originally, I'd entered a word with that yellow letter in the third spot again in the third spot. While double checking, I'd saw what I'd done and changed it to the right answer.
