Did a search and didn’t see a topic on this Netflix show. Could have easily missed it though.

anyone watch it? Squid game was so popular I gave it a shot

man, Asians love this childrens games of life or death concept. …

I’ve mostly enjoyed it though. Seems to have a bigger budget, some actually well done action/fight scenes.

I have it on my list, but haven't watched it yet. I watched the Recruit over Christmas vacation and it was solid.

On my list as well, but haven't watched it.  It's already in Season 2 so it was good enough for Netlfix to renew it for a second season so maybe it's good?

Besides, shows from Korea and Japan and asia in general aren't into the civilization ending woke cult and pedo/tranny sh#t like American shows that try to indonctrinate everyone are, so I think it already has a good chance at season 3 based on that alone.

I'm on season 1 about 4-5 episodes in.

First time I gave it a go after season 1 came out I didn't make it far enough through ep 1 to see it had potential, just those stupid kids running around.  It's worth it so far, I mean if you're willing to kill off all the initial characters but one in episode 3 that takes some balls.  The first few "games" were good, the playing card setup and now collecting of cards is intriguing.  My complaint so far would be that the last couple of "games" were a little fantastical -  keep it realistic and believable, I'd rather have the kid being the smartest solving puzzles rather than acting like Jason Bourne.

One of the main characters from a about the middle of season 1 through where I am currently (s2e5) is trans.

The first 20 minutes or so of episode 1 I felt the same way. It seemed like low quality production and was dragging. Then it did a complete 180

as the games go on an get more complex there are certain small details you have to kind of overlook and not nitpick too much. Or very obvious ways they could have played and won easily but don’t in order to draw out every last drop of suspense.

and the longer time goes on in a world where they are also scavengers for food and supplies you have to ignore that they would be too weak physically and mentally to compete in these games and win. Sometimes they have it good like when part of a big community but other times they struggle to survive between games and in season two I’ve noticed a lot of random groups of people that look like they are barely scraping by. Everyone is supposed to play in games before their visas expire but it gets to a point where there are only so many games. So how are they all not taking lasers to the heads?

Yeah. But I dont get the foot part either. The people vanished, not the food.  I convinced myself the girl eating rabbit in ep3 was ok because without electricity all the meat would go bad, but, if you're telling me they dont have years of canned food, rice and beans in a giant city like that I'm going to be disappointed.

All the "other people of Tokyo" didn't vanish though. I ruled this theory out based on the fact that players are arriving to this "new world" at entirely different times (although I guess there could be a time travel element). We realize this when the three friends come across that one random guy very early on and he is yelling about quitting because it doesn't matter how many games you win and he gets lasered down in front of them... and all the people at the Beach who have spent lots of time collecting cards already. So it is possible that these games have been going on for years meaning any food supply would be well picked over.

I don't want to give any spoilers but my current theory is simply that they are in a reproduction of Tokyo set off in a remote area similar to how the location in squid game was a big complex in a remote area but no one is feeding them meals and preparing them for the games.

Well the guy goes back to the bar he worked at, found his wedding ring and the bar looked stocked. The stores were stocked too as I remember when they picked up the transistor radios (need to go back and look again).  How is it a reproduction if his hidden ring is there?  I got the impression everything was the same, cars randomly in the roadway, and the people just gone.

The main character is a gamer. If the powers controlling this “game” world are gamers or use that mentality, they could clone Tokyo exactly as it was, minus the people and then transport whomever they select to play in their game world. And they could know specifics about the people they are transporting.

Im probably wrong but if the majority of people in Tokyo simply vanished, leaving behind just a select few, wouldn’t they all experience entering this new world at the same time?

guess we will find out 🤷🏻‍♂️

I skimmed back through the early episodes looking for clues.

Right after the opening credits in ep1 (after the kids emerge from the subway bathroom and everyone is gone) the camera shows a mini mart fully stocked with food.  If anything it's too perfect as there isn't a package/bottle missing or out of place.  They show a restaurant and there are plates of food and drink where the missing people were eating.  There is still ice in the water and they purposely zoom in on a cup of coffee that still has steam rising from it.  When the kid walks into the bar they show a cigarette in an ash tray that was left by his girlfriend and the ash burned down like she vanished just minutes earlier.

In ep2 the kid tries to start a car and in the car was a bag of fruit starting to decay, hot car indicates a matter of days had past.  They are hanging out at the mall, again all stores completely stocked (not grocery stores).  They get a battery operated burner working and sit down to eat heated food for the first time in "a few days".  They have dozens of canned foods opened, several Campbells soups and lots of drink and water bottles.  The discussion around the dinner table is about what might have happened and they note several things: They are with a new girl they met in game #1 and they make note that the people vanished around them at different times and they speculate about time travel.  The girl also mentions a company that was trying to duplicate the world in VR and they speculate that they should be able to tell if it was VR.

In ep6 the two go around looking for clues themselves as they speculate about trying to leave the city.  They talk to a lot of people.  Some people told them that when people tried to leave by boat they get a laser to the head.  Other people tell them that as they tried to leave the city everything just turns into jungle.  At the Beach they are always drinking out of beer type bottles and plastic bottles of water.

Other than you mentioning it, throughout season 1 ep7 I haven't seen any evidence of running out of or scavenging for food other than climber girl catching and eating the rabbit.  And I explained that in my head as lack of meat because of lack of electricity and refrigeration.  In season 2 are they scavenging for food often?  Do we know the equation for number of passport days given per level of winning a game?  All I can remember is that it seems to be a matter of days, not weeks or months.  But I agree, the Beach community has been there quite a while as compared to the two.  They have collected 2-10 of each suit so that's 36 games worth after they get done burning the witch.

yes there are season 2 episodes that at least led me to believe that finding food was challenging  you mentioned stores being almost too perfectly stocked. This sort of went in line with my feeling of it being a fake/staged area. If main character and friends are seeing these places after other members of the game, why would they be so fully/perfectly stocked?

Well I finished it so I know the answer at least in terms of if there is no season 3. It’s very close to  the most obvious answer

Ok, here is where I'm really confused.  The blonde.....person.  I though it was a girl, then I thought it was a guy and now I really can not tell.  That's the real life tranny right?  And is it a trans from guy to gal or gal to guy because I can't tell what the hell is going on there?

Then in ep 7 we find out that sucker girl is supposed to be a guy that switched to a gal.  In real life that's a girl, right?

I have no idea about their real life genders

the one who quit smoking and is always wearing a bikini top is trans in the show.

im assuming the blonde your talking about is the shady guy who shows up first in the tag game and then again at the beach. More silverish hair than blonde I thought. He’s a guy in the show and I assumed he was a guy either way.

Whew.  I think I got it now.  I thought you were saying there was a trans actor, not a trans character.  So what we have is a male actor that just looks effeminate (silver hair) and a female actress playing a guy to gal trans (fake cigarette girl).  So glad to learn she's not a trans in real life, for a minute there I thought I might have to go cut my d!ick off.

unless you googled the obscure actors/actresses who play them, no way to know for sure

i will say though that a lot of Asian faces and styles of hair can make it sometimes confusing. Take the trans character we are talking about, the one with the braids and blue bikini top. Give her a short hair style and a hoodie/loose pants combo and i'd think it was a male character.

Her body is very feminine for an Asian imo.  But yes, I was a little disturbed there for a minute so I googled her to make sure.

I actually thought she seemed on the taller/thin side with a smaller chest and could pass for a boy with a different hair style and not wearing the only outfit where we KNOW she has boobs . but i like her character.

the one you thought might be trans (silver hair) does have a little michael jackson work done look to his face. but for some reason I just assumed he was male from the get go. maybe the mannerisms

Are the episodes you are watching voiced over?  I'm reading subtitles most of the time so that might have something to do with it too.   His Chinese voice isn't very masculine.

yes. Sub titles and voiced over. His voice over is like soft spoken sneaky male. Fits the character pretty well.
