I prefer Hawaii for the convenience, 10 hour flight versus 5. Same weather, same natural beauty.  Better golf in Hawaii, better food. I mean Tahiti was awesome but haven’t gone back. Hawaii is an every other year thing.

1 - Does your wife take off work from Amazon to go with you "on the company's dime"? 

2 - Being financially independent makes things like "on the company's dime" irrelevant.   Maybe someday you'll figure that out, or maybe you won't and you'll keep waisting time working.

I can travel better than I would on my own dime that’s for sure. They are very generous!  I’ll keep stacking that paper tho until they figure it out.

Now, back to Hawaii versus French Polynesia…you never made the case. Where did you stay in those places? We are talking a Emmitt Smith versus Barry Sanders argument here. Both are major winners but Hawaii’s convenience and variety get my vote. Big Island and Kauai give some semblance of local vibes but I got to admit Wailea and the super tourist area is my spot to hole up for a few days. Can always pop up to Haleakala or do the loop north of Kaanapali.

You mentioned Europe as well. Where did you like visiting there?

I continue to believe based on everything I read that the tariffs in place now will starting almost immediately, bring inflation way up and drive the economy off a cliff. This is true despite our current numbers (which reflect the 1st quarter before most of the tariffs took effect) and will be true even if Trump completely reverses himself (or accomplishes “trade deals” which will essentially be the same thing, I hope for either.) 

I would very much like to be wrong about this. If I am right there won’t be any gloating. I personally stand to lose a LOT of money and I think the entire nation will suffer. So I’m really hoping that you and the other MAGA folks are correct and it all turns out for the best.

Doing what ever you want is different for people I think. Mine is not cashing out and moving to a cheaper area. Work is fine and provides opportunities I definitely would not be able to do. All our friends live here, the people we hang with, etc. Life is good.

Tariffs are essentially a tax that is passed on to the consumer, it is not paid by the exporting country (i.e. China).

It is a simple concept that the MAGA crowd has never been able to grasp.

I hear this stuff all the time. Some base group is abandoning the GOP. Then 6 months before the election some cultural issue like gay marriage, trans in sports, etc is ginned up and they all vote red.
