Short version: A friendly fire incident in Iraq (2004) that killed 2 American soldiers and an Iraqi interpreter was covered up for many years. Maybe because one officer involved was the son of a member of Congress. That son became a Congressman himself later, until he was kicked out after committing felony campaign finance crimes. Later, he was pardoned by Trump.

This isn’t primarily about Trump. It’s more of a side-note, years after the fact… included to show who this former officer later became associated with. From a lowly LT whose actions possibly contributed to the death of fellow soldiers… then despite the fact he was a crappy officer, he got better assignments in the Army, then eventually used his supposedly good military record to boost a political campaign into the halls of Congress… and in the end, he was so politically connected that even a felony didn’t stick because he had a connection to the President. It’s about the military covering things up, and an incompetent officer getting off the hook due to Daddy’s political connections.

Family of fallen soldiers shouldn’t be finding out about friendly fire, 19 years after the fact, from a news report. And this cover-up may have gone as high as former Defense Secretary Mattis (who was a general at the time).
