Different era.  He pitched 80 games and multiple innings in most games.   Back then getting a two or three inning save was a thing.  He pitched as many innings as two relief pitchers do today.   Yes, Eddie Murray and Alan Trammell had better WAR, but Baltimore did not make the playoffs. So maybe Trammell, but having a 0.94 WHIP and a 1.92 ERA was an incredible season.

I was into collecting baseball cards in mid 80’s and bought his rookie card for like a king’s ransom at the time. Probably worth 3 dollars today 😐
