Fentanyl Is Smuggled for U.S. Citizens By U.S. Citizens, Not Asylum Seekers

Recommended Posts

https://www.cato.org/blog/fentanyl-smuggled-us-citizens-us-citizens-not-asylum-seekers

Fentanyl smuggling is ultimately funded by U.S. consumers who pay for illicit opioids: nearly 99 percent of whom are U.S. citizens.

In 2021, U.S. citizens were 86.3 percent of convicted fentanyl drug traffickers—ten times greater than convictions of illegal immigrants for the same offense.

Over 90 percent of fentanyl seizures occur at legal crossing points or interior vehicle checkpoints, not on illegal migration routes, so U.S. citizens (who are subject to less scrutiny) when crossing legally are the best smugglers.

The location of smuggling makes sense because hard drugs at ports of entry are about 97 percent less likely to be stopped than are people crossing illegally between them.

Just 0.02 percent of the people arrested by Border Patrol for crossing illegally possessed any fentanyl whatsoever.

While significantly more is caught at ports of entry – with over 22,000 lbs caught at the ports of entry at the southern border this fiscal year -- the stat highlights the danger of fentanyl moving between the ports and potentially past overwhelmed agents in the field.

https://www.thirdway.org/memo/the-truth-about-fentanyl-trafficking

In February 2023, a 37-year-old woman was caught smuggling $1 million worth of fentanyl and meth across the US-Mexico border into California in the fuel tank of her 2016 pickup truck.1 She wasn’t an undocumented immigrant trying to sneak across the border. She was a US citizen entering through the Andrade Port of Entry. And this is the rule, not the exception.

The majority of fentanyl, however, is smuggled mostly by U.S. citizens through legal ports of entry, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data.

“The misconception is that everything's coming in through the desert,” said Guadalupe Ramirez, the director for CBP's Office of Field Operations in Arizona, who oversees the operation and enforcement for all of the state’s ports of entry.

“U.S. Customs and Border Protection data evidences that more than 90% of the fentanyl that is brought into this country is trafficked through the ports of entry, which is why we have surged operations to those ports of entry to increase the interdiction of fentanyl that is causing so much death and destruction in our country,” Mayorkas told the House Judiciary Committee last month in an open hearing.

The government gets paid, they don’t care about the citizens of this country, it’s been that way for a very long time, red team, and blue team = evil team.  Which side of the evilness are you on.  I pick Jesus Christ, and you?

If the government keeps making money crap will keep entering in.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection statistics, 90 percent of heroin seized along the border, 88 percent of cocaine, 87 percent of methamphetamine, and 80 percent of fentanyl in the first 11 months of the 2018 fiscal year was caught trying to be smuggled in at legal crossing points.

Trump was president in 2018, chump.

Oh. Don’t worry about it now then.  Biden is off the hook. Except the overdose deaths are way up since then.  And that’s with the introduction of Narcan. But Trump!

What are you trying to do with your barrage of X posts, LC?    Many of them are in line with what the OP was saying anyway - there are some examples caught at ports, some are not big shipments, and some don't even mention Fentanyl.   It's sort of funny watching people talk past each other just because they don't want to agree with each other on anything.

It's a novel concept. Open borders bad.

Let's preach it till Biden does something about it. You should to, for the good of your Kids, not your Political Party.

You won't though.

You are right, I won't spend time looking up 100s of examples on X of things that often don't pertain to the point at hand.

Just funny when the opposite tactics are used on a topic like guns.   One side mostly looks at the big picture, the overall deaths, etc.. and the other fires off examples of daily shootings.    Here the opposite is true.   Hmm, I wonder why that is.

Yes! This is the most important issue right now. We are being invaded, 5000+ illegal crossings a day is an invasion. As a Country this should never of happened and needs to be stopped.

You voted for this, that's why you couldn't care less.

Are you saying there's not a problem, nothing to see here?? Typical Liberal

No assswipe, stop illegal crossings.

But close it all off until it's under control if that's what it takes.

How I know someone spends waaay too much time on social media.   Along with the above indication that if I cared about my kids, I'd do what exactly, I'm not sure.  Only R voters care about their kids now, I guess.
