Need opinions on fairness issue

Recommended Posts

After the person who won our 12-team league the past two years got eliminated just before this year’s playoffs, he dropped five of his top players, including Derrick Henry, making them free agents available to anyone based on waiver order.  Our commissioner was disappointed that he did this, but said he was powerless to prevent it because we have no specific rule spelled out prohibiting this particular scenario.

Do you agree?  Can a commissioner only enforce rules that have been spelled out in detail in advance, or does his responsibility to protect the fairness and integrity of the league allow him to use his judgment to act on unanticipated events, and if so, should he have allowed this?

I can't say what a comm can and can't do, never been one, but that is absolute BS! That's a chicken sht move and, imo, should be forced back onto his team.

If anything, block from playing in next year's draft.

That shouldn’t have been allowed. Imo.

Back to your question with a bit more info, and this is just my opinion. But, that's a very slippery slope and can be a rabbit hole if you will. That is not something spelled out in my leagues BUT my leagues have been going on for years and we ALL know how juvenile that kind of move is. Not a single player in my leagues would have any issues placing those players back on his roster.  The GM of the league can also send out an email that none of those players are allowed to be picked up (to protect the integrity of the game). And ban the player that did this, imo.

Your GM can take a few different roads here but, at MINIMUM, I think he should reach out to the other teams and let them know what he thinks, as the GM. It's not his duty to regulate everything, but this is just too on the nose.

I've been a commish for many years, nothing you can do. But I would kick that person from the league. If he takes a few with him, so be it. There's never a problem finding new blood...

JMHO

That was a BS move, cutting so many top-tier players.  Definitely have the Commish put things back to how they were.  Blacklist the player who did that, too.

*I* don't think there need to be a SPECIFIC League Rule to .. put things right.  It's like that Wisconsin University Provost who decided to stream porn sessions with his wife and professional starlets from the industry, on-line.  There are some things YOU JUST DON'T DO!
