Announcing you are currently vacationing out of the Country

Don't police departments advise against announcing when you are away from your home on social media sites?  Isn't this one of the primary mistakes leading to one's home being burglarized.  Say for instance you frequent a social media site and proudly announce your home town, your socio-economic status and so more or less your neighborhood, and you announce your profession so someone can find you through professional associations, isn't it dumb, then, to announce you are out of town?
