Veterans are not well appreciated at this point in our history, unfortunately.

On the left you have people seeing war as unjust. In their defense it has been a long time since there was a necessary one — World War II, really.

Then on the right you have Trumpism’s takeover, which holds that veterans and the killed and wounded were suckers and losers who got killed or captured for nothing. And their gold star parents can go fock themselves as well.

It’s unfortunate. I think war is almost always unnecessary and evil but you still have to respect the people who fought for our country. They believed they were doing the right thing, and if they were misled in that belief it was the fault of our leaders (and us, for electing them) and not the fault of the soldiers imo.
