kilroy69 1,248 Posted October 13, 2024 The NFL made a big deal out of it being illegal and I have not seen it called once. They had the perfect chance to call it on a tackle on Jackson today and passed on it. It was the literal definition of a hip drop. It is funny how the refs just do what the fock they want
nobody 2,671 Posted October 13, 2024 Mixon got hurt in a hip drop. They fined the defender 16k.

When the defender throws his legs out in front like that and just drops his weight, it's the very definition of a hip drop.

As well as when they aren't tackled or even touched. So I guess getting hit in any manner or simply pulling a hamstring should be a penalty too....

The defender grabbed the middle of Jackson jersey, near the number, and pulled him down. The defender did NOT dropped to the ground and pulled Jackson down with him. But hey, don't let actual facts get in the way of a rant!
polecatt 478 Posted October 14, 2024 That's the thing about these safety rules like this, they are easy to write down in the rule book but a bit more difficult to actually identify and call on the field. I imagine it will be like the horse collar tackle, where the first couple of years it was very specific what it was and what they would call. However, over the years it got called much more loosely. Now it's basically if you touch a players name plate, it's gonna be called a horse collar tackle.

Video clearly shows he swung his legs around and tackled him. Fftoday posters. Not a hip drop.

Now it's anyone who is falling while tackling someone is committing a "hip drop". Half the players tackling someone are being hit themselves. But don't dare tackle someone while you are falling down. And don't ever, ever grab someone from behind because that's a no-no now. So silly. That's why those are not being called a penalty.

This thread and my response in it was talking about the tackle on Jackson.
