nobody 2,672 Posted October 25, 2024 Or is this just a California thing? The scene is you turn down a small street with enough room for two cars to pass each other going opposite directions. Over the past 5 years I've noticed that more and more people drive right in the middle of the street and act surprised when you duck out of the way. It's like this huge swerve at the last second to get back in their lane. Weird.

5-Points 3,528 Posted October 26, 2024 It's safer to drive down the middle of a narrow residential street. It gives you more room to react if a kid jumps out from behind a parked car or if someone starts pulling out of their driveway without looking. What pisses me off is when idiots drive 40 mph down those kind of streets.

I have come across these situations many times and the standard procedure for most drivers is you drive down the middle until you approach another car and you then younmove over. I think you are being a Karen about this whole thing. Get off my lawn!

They seem to think I should move over even more than I am so they can continue to drive right in the middle of the street. But you answered my question. Your defensiveness tells me that it is now standard practice to drive down the middle of the road.
Gepetto 1,368 Posted October 26, 2024 I see this in my neighborhood too, Also, on main roads that are curvy, I don't dare drive side by side anyone for more than a second because a lot of people can't keep it between the lines, instead crossing over the dashed line. I am confused, are you saying this happens to you on every narrow road you drive on? you were given the correct answer on the second reply. 6 hours ago, 5-Points said: It's safer to drive down the middle of a narrow residential street. jerryskids 6,797 Posted October 26, 2024 I've driven enough in the LA area to confidently say that the drivers there are consistently selfish and inconsiderate. If you try to merge onto a freeway, it's a stone cold lock that some car will drive parallel to you, trying to block your merger. As if your attempt to get on the freeway is some personal affront to them. If I had a nickel for every time I've thought "Cali liberal democrats pretend to care about people, but they hate everyone around them!", I'd have a lot of nickels. The cars stay in the middle of the street even when another car is approaching and act surprised that someone else wants to use the lane. Clearly you do the same thing. I get it. It's standard now. I'll just start doing it too. We'll just play chicken where we both drive right down the middle of the street right at each other.

It sounds like you have some idiots and/or asshoIes driving in your neighborhood. If there is room for two cars to pass, move to the right and continue driving. The other car will do the same. If they insist on staying in the center and blocking your lane of travel, do the same thing. Then, while you're both stopped in the middle of the street, get out and piss on the hood of their vehicle.
easilyscan 925 Posted October 27, 2024 9 hours ago, nobody said: Do you need a center line to know what side of the street to be on? From the looks of the developmentally disabled focks I see driving on a daily basis, the answer is a resounding yes!
