I think the Tigers are obviously good, but just not quite good enough.   Maybe make a trade near the deadline for a right handed bat, maybe a legit closer.

Without that, I just don't see them having enough to win the AL.   This upcoming series against the Cubs will be a real test.   It's early of course, but this should show where they are against the really good teams

I don’t think the AL has a dominant team. I can see a few teams taking it.

Agreed.  Yankees have holes.   They are probably the front runner.   But yes they can definitely be beat.

I still occasionally think back to your post claiming the AL central wouldn't be good (which I think you since somewhat retracted, if course), when now it seems it might be the most well balanced division (let's not talk about the ChiSox) in baseball.  I think it's legit possible all the AL wild cards coming from the central division.

Yep.  Just like last year.   I did retract it.  AL Central looks solid for sure.

I hope your boys make it in the playoffs, and lose to mine

Baseball is definitely a whole lot more enjoyable to watch when your favorite team is competitive

AL Central is at best #4 of the 6 divisions. More likely #5 of the 6.  And that's simply because Detroit is carrying the load for the creampuffs that are not Detroit in that division.

Detroit is right now the best team in baseball..

Cags in RF tonight, so hopefully won't be long before he's OF eligible.  0-5er to start but had some of the hardest hit balls in the game yesterday and every at bat he put something in play

I somewhat disagree.  Twins have struggled against good teams, so they may just be taking advantage of lesser opponents.  The Guardians kept a strong core of their team that won 92 games last year.  And I'm biased, but the Royals have one of the top rotations in the game with a very strong bullpen, and I think the addition of Cags to the lineup could be exactly the spark they needed to really get them rolling.

The good news is all four get to beat up on the ChiSox all year long

Honestly no offense as I like KC, but never boast about beating up on the white Sox or the Rockies. Not a great argument.

KC is #24 in attendance this year. They may want to start hitting.

Nobody here wants to hear me talk about the royals but...

Garcia is having a great year.

India is closer to a .700 ops guy than .583 or whatever he is and he usually takes a bit to warm up

Vinnie is hitting better lately and I think salvy will get out of his slump

Isbel is having a nice year and is a great defensive cf which is important at the k.

They've called up john rave, drew waters, nick loftin, and caglianone and demoted or parted ways with renfroe, Melendez, and biggio.  And there's talk they could still be in the mix for another bat at the trade deadline.  I didn't mention Bobby Witt Jr.

It's definitely easy to see why they are a team that seems to be trending up, but also there are no guarantees with success in baseball.

Went for almost the whole nut in faab. Rare in our league.

That attendance number is striking.   The cards were really light yesterday, which was very surprising to me.   The weather has been really cool and school just got out, so with some of the excitement building i hope the attendance number improves.  I'm going to my first game at the k for the year next Tuesday.

Also no one talking about the automatic ball/strike proposal Manfred plans to roll out next year.   I know @posty has waited his entire life for this type of game revolution.

It has nothing to do with him talking about his favorite team. I love the chat. But the AL central is NOT one of the best divisions in baseball at this point. It's my opinion and maybe that's all it is, but it's a long season. We will see.

Cubs lost today to focking Washington. They have to win tomorrow to make it 8 series wins in a row. I hate it when they don't sweep.

Go Cubs!!

I'm kind of like fock it, too.  I witnessed the challenge system in play when I went to a game in Omaha last month.   You had guys from st paul pretty actively challenging, so it'd be strike three, inning over and the batter taps his helmet, takes off his pads and starts walking to first and then they show you in reply on the jumbotron yep he was right, the inning continues.  And they had the number of challenges remaining for each team up on the board.

It was...different

Also, it looks like the royals have Kyle Wright fixed

Help me list all of the stupid things that will be things of the past once we have full-time ABS:

pitch-framing
missed calls because pitch does not go where catcher set up (anti-framing)
umpires with "their own" strike zone
umpires with erratic strike zones
umpires whose strike zones change as the game progresses (whose butt-wholes tighten up in the later innings)
players ejected for arguing balls and strikes
managers ejected for arguing balls and strikes
rookies not getting certain calls because they haven't "earned it"
pitchers getting or not getting calls because they've been in control or wild up to this point
umpires letting their emotions affect their calls (retribution)

There may be more :ninja:

Jesus H. Christ...  The Braves pitching just sucks this year...

Up 10-4 on the D'Backs heading to the top of the ninth...  Lose 11-10...

I mean the guy who gave up the majority of the runs is named Blewett, how could you be a reliever with that name lol

Before today, he hadn't been pitching too bad... His WHIP is a high for a reliever, but his numbers weren't too bad...  But he pitched his namesake today for sure...

I may be the only person in the country who had him in his lineup today, but in Homers you do what you gotta do.  :dunno:

Cubs win!!

15 over .500

They've played like 8 games against LA, 6 against SD and Arizona each, and some against philthy and the Mets and SF.

Now the freaking Tigers. Possibly the best team in baseball. Then they have to play philthy again.

They have had a rough schedule up to this point with only one short respite.

Tigers bats have gone kinda cold.  This is a big series for both teams this weekend.  However if the Tigers dont figure out to hit, cubs will win this.  Possibly sweep

Skubal on the mound for a Detroit. Cy Young repeat candidate? Great pitching normally beats good hitting. :dunno:

Brown for the Cubs. Hit or miss.

Brown could be exactly what Detroit needs to get their bats going.

But hell, Cubs are freaking loaded on offense this year. Armstrong could be an MVP candidate out of absolutely nowhere.

I'm laying off this game completely and will look elsewhere for my gambling fun.

Looks like Cubs are really gonna need him. But Counsel has been a genius in pitching a reliever in the first inning to let a couple of their pitchers start out in the second inning rather than the first inning. Crazy.

Wish I could watch tonight's game. It's on Apple TV though. And I'm not local to either team.

Yup.  The biggest reason I can find for no Cubs sweep is Skubal today.  And the Tigers are really good at home.  Gonna be a big big series.  All three games already sold out.

Two best win PCT teams in baseball right now.

I kind of hope neither team sweeps for some reason. I really like both these teams as a baseball fan.

I grew up a Cubs fan....Huge huge Cubs fan.  When I moved to the Detroit area I adopted the Tigers and am now a big fan as well.   Prior to 2016, I saw nothing good as a Cubs fan, except 84.

As a Tigers fan I saw a no hitter, went to a playoff game, and was here during Cabrera's hey days.   Nice to see the Cubs doing good things.    That 84 series should have been the Cubs Tigers instead of the Padres.  Oh well

Hoping they stay cold for a couple days.

A side note. I heard on some sports radio that Detroit is a great example of a great sports town where all the stadiums are in town. Near or in the city.

The topic was about the Bears possibly moving to Arlington which I think is a brilliant purchase by the team ownership. (RIP Arlington National Race Course :( I enjoyed many Lynchburg Lemonades in the hot sun there over the years).

Anyway, someone said that Detroit was the model town for sports because all their team's stadiums were in or very close to downtown.

I worked in Detroit for three years 4 days a week. Never experienced a ghost town like that in my life. I mean, a large ghost town. To me, it was absolutely surreal. I used to stay either at that Renaissance center or another hotel that was a block or so away from Tiger stadium. I consulted at DTE and would walk there and back each day. The dumbass cab drivers would get pissed if I interrupted their place in line at the hotels if I wanted to just go a mile away. And I mean mad pissed. So I just walked.

But back to the stadiums. This guy was saying what a great model Detroit was to have accessible stadiums nearby downtown.

But honestly. The city was all but empty and when there were events at Tiger stadium, (once I was staying right down the block during Beyonce concert. The place was crazy. I slowly learned that it was an "event city". People flooded in for the events, but otherwise, nothing. Empty. 8-9am walking in to the office, streets empty except for few cars and a couple people.

If that city was fully operational with packed downtown housing, those venues would be a disaster to attend.

Yes? No?

Go Cubs!!

Yeah.  Downtown Detroit now is an awesome place.  All the teams are there and close.  3 casinos with lots of hotel rooms.  Good police presence on busy days.  No issue at all walking around down safely.   They have done quite a bit to get it there.   There is still a lot to do in the more rural areas and Detroit as a whole is still quite poor.   But downtown is great.

This weekend?   Expect to pay 75-100 for parking...just about anywhere.  The place will be packed!

Funny about Arlington.  I was sad when it closed.  I lived with my brother in Glenview and I'd borrow his motorcycle and ride up there(with no license but whatever).  Sitting there with a cool beer, watching the horses, dropping a few bets.  Awesome awesome experience.

Me and a couple friends back in the day were huge track guys. Spent too much time at the OTBs, Maywood Park Harness, Arlington thoroughbreds.  Even when I lived in Annapolis I found a couple people that liked to go to the track. Laurel and Pimlico.

Summer days and nights at the track. Good memories.

Go Cubs.

Told many people.  if you haven't had the chance to stand by a racetrack---feel and hear those thoroughbreds flying by at top speed, you need to just once.  It's amazing.

Go Tigers!
