2025 NFL Draft Profile - TE Colston Loveland

Recommended Posts

I don't understand the pick when Omarion Hampton was staring them in the face at 10. They clearly needed a RB and didn't take one till the 7th round. Horrible draft IMO.

I was more surprised they took him over Warren.  I was fine with not taking a RB there.  Swift and Johnson are still good RBs on the roster and they can grab someone in FA.

I'm surprised they didn't draft another bowling pin, to moonlight as an offensive lineman.

they drafted a tackle who is projected to be a plus starter eventually.

thats at least something.    is it enough?  I dont know.   presumably they will start him out at guard.   all I know is the team needed O line help.    while this addresses some of this, I had hoped for more.    and I'd argue they needed the O line help more than they needed a TE and/or WR.    though I do see the attractiveness of having a young WR who can grow up with your starting QB.

Agreed.  Biggest need was to build that oline.

Wasnt that surprised.  Most reading had Warren and Colston pretty close.  Warren seems like a rugged guy and probably eill br a good football player.  But his skillset never screamed top 10 pick.

I dont love taking a TE nor RB 10th overall tho.  Especially when both positions were very good/deep this year.  Colston has more dynamic recieving ability on paper at least.

They added OL in free agency and there wasn't value at the position with the 10th pick.  They were in position to take the best player available or trade back.

The Bears had a terrible draft altogether.  I have no idea how they went through this entire draft without grabbing one of the NUMEROUS stud RBs.

It was a rookie draft by a rookie coach

My initial reaction is that I agree with your first sentence.  As far as the RB's go, meh.  I mean, they're not all that important in the grand scheme of things if you have a good OLine, WR's, and QB... the RB & TE positions work themselves out.  But I don't understand the need for a R1 TE when just 12 months ago, you made your current TE one of the highest paid TE's in the NFL.  On top of that, using a R2 pick on a WR when you just drafted a R1 WR last year and re-upped your other WR to a 4-yr deal.  Neither pick makes sense to me.

Yes, they added 2 DE's and a C in FA, but the rest of their acquisitions were JAGs.

From early work, outlets seem to rank their OLine as league average, maybe the upper end of the "average" group.  On a similar note, that's about where I've been seeing their defense.  I'm not sure they used their 1st two picks wisely.  But, who knows.

the way I see it, there are only a handful of RB's capable of performing if the line is suspect.    Barkley is one of the few.  he performed at a good level in New york behind that terrible line.

but most RB's need the line to open holes for them.     to that end, I'd say addressing the O line was more important than addressing the RB position as I dont think that line was good enough to allow a RB to thrive anyway.   so taking a RB early might have been a waste of a pick at this point.

their RBs right now are good enough.   and if the line improves with the new kid, the existing RB will perform to a decent level.  it just wont be a strength of the team.

though I see your point.  they likely could have gotten a RB in the mid round picks that has potential to develop into a starter, and given their situation, that might have been a nice add.   Run with the vets while they develop the kid.

but I am not the GM so I dont know what those internal conversations are all about or what the plan actually is.   But I think this team wants to be more of a passing team than a running  one.   so I think thats what has played into this decision (at least to some extent)

My point. They drafted a TE who doesn't block.
