Owning Exotic/Endangered Animals or Seeing them in Zoos/Parks

Akin to Tiger King and Chimp Crazy, and our need to go to theme parks/zoos to see killer whales, seals, lions and tigers...what are your thoughts? 

These people buy these tigers and chimps, only to get hurt/killed, or find that they cannot take care of them.  Sigfried and Roy? I mean, these people think they have relationships with these animals 

Should PETA step in more, or should there be additional federal laws that you cannot own these? 

How do you feel about zoos and theme parks with animals? Since the Blackfish documentary, Sea World has closed at least once park and has seen their attendance go WAY down. However. Countries like China are just NOW hopping on the oceanic parks; buying killer whales, beluga whales, and other sea life from Russia. 

Simply being able to own cats, dogs, hamsters, lizards, etc isn't enough for us? 

What do you think about non-human rights?

I know that at the zoo where jbycho lives, they had to put up some Plexiglass on his enclosure perimeter to keep him from throwing his poo at the passersby.

Im okay with people owning exotic animals as long as they aren’t too big. Parrots, spider moneys, etc.. I had a Savannah cat growing up, was the coolest pet Ive ever had. He would jump in the pool and shower and go for swims

I'm not opposed to well run zoos and aquariums, where they create reasonable habitats that are similar to what the animals lived in out in the wild.   Many of us have domesticated pets.  Would be kind of hypocritical to criticize zoos while imprisoning animals in our own homes.  Obviously, I don't feel like my cat is "imprisoned" but it's not like I ever asked her for permission to force her to live here.  But there has to be a middle ground between all animals live in the wild and animals living in our homes.  And in some cases you have animals that wouldn't survive if released in to the wild so zoos offer them a place to still thrive.  What I DO take exception to are places like Seaquest, which fortunately appears to have gone bankrupt:

There was one near me for a number of years (the Littleton CO location) and I read stories about it constantly.  I never went but from the get go it was controversial with stories about poor conditions for the animals.

There was a SeaQuest near me that was sold, so I am not sure if it's just a different name with the same stuff. I refuse to go there.

If you look at the link I posted it has a list of the locations.  There was one in Folsom.  I'm guessing that's the one that was near you.

I'm fine with Darwin stepping in. Only get upset when it's someone from outside the home who gets hurt.

I wanna believe a lot of zoos are run humanely and take care of these animals.   Way different than the circuses which flat out abused them.  

And I am only saying that for this country.  I don't know how animals are treated in zoos in other countries.   

As far as cats and dogs.   I have both. On the one hand, they live lazy pointless lives, but they also are fed, protected from the elements and loved.    Is that enough?  I dunno.

Now I feel like I gotta walk my dog when I get home

I believe russian bears highest aspiration is to get out of the wild, get a tutu, and learn to roller skate.  What tiger does not want to live in an enclosure in Nebraska?  Also, I am pretty sure that all Lipizzaner stallions desire to run around in a circle under the big top while being ridden by toy poodles.
