2025's Rookie of the Year

Recommended Posts

Now that the draft is over there's high expectations for players this year. I'm curious to see what you guys think on who will be the Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year. There's.a lot of players who could garner this award this year. So, let us know who you think will win it on both sides of the ball. Will they win it because of heir talent or because of the team that drafted them. Also, if you care to, what kind of production do you see coming from these potential ROY'S. I have some guys in mind and will post here later but I'm interested to get you guys opinions because a lot of you are very knowledgeable about football in  terms of real and fantasy. I'm.sure some of you will nail the ROY on offense and defense so let us know your players and why they will win the award. Thanks for your input.

No clue about defense, but baring injury, I don't see how it can be anyone other than Jeanty.

  • Outside of Ward and Dart, I don't think any other QB is going to start enough games to warrant consideration.  I think Tennessee and the Giants are just way to bad overall as teams (they'll win like 6 games each), for them to put up numbers and hype to get into the conversation.
  • There are other RB's in situations where they will or can take over the starting relatively early.  I think Hampton, Harvey, &  Johnson have the fastest, easiest, and clearest paths to RB1 (roster), touches.  I don't think any of them will put up the numbers that Jeanty probably will.
  • McMillan has a great opportunity to put up big numbers in Carolina and could challenge Jeanty.  I'd like Hunter more if his QB didn't suck and Thomas wasn't there. I think Egbuka will beat out Jalen McMillan for the #3 role in Tampa... IF (big IF), Godwin isn't ready for W1 and misses some time and is then metered, Egbuka could have a very good season.  Still, his volume still won't be match what T. McMillan and Hunter will have.
  • Too many mouths to feed in Chicago for Loveland and the Colts probably have the worst QB in the league, so I don't envision a strong season from Warren.  Not sure any other TE will have a big enough impact to be in the conversation.

I'd rank the favorites as....

  1. Jeanty
  2. McMillan
  3. Hampton
  4. Hunter

Anyone else would have to put up a totally unsuspecting season and a couple of the top 4 would have to either get hurt or be a shocking disappointment.

Offense                                                     Defense

Rb) Aston Jeanty +250                           Lb) Abdul Carter +250

Qb) Cameron Ward +300                        Lb) Jalon Walker +750

Wr) Travis Hunter +700                           Cb) Travis Hunter +800

Wr) Tetairoa McMillan +900                   Dt) Mason Graham +1200

Rb) Omarion Hampton +1400               De) Shemar Stewart +1700

........................................................................................

From that list I think Hampton has the best chance at good odds. He's on the Chargers with Harbaugh likely to give him 200+ carries. For better odds I'd consider Denver Rb RJ Harvey at +2500.

Defense... Graham. Browns already have a good defense so that'll make him look even better.

Can I parlay Hunter to win both?  I'd drop a Lincoln on that if the payout is worth it.  I'd throw a Washington on a Hampton/Graham parlay as well.

That'd be incredible. Supposedly, he'll play more offense so might be hard to get that defense trophy.

Travis Hunter because he'll play both ways on occasion.

I think that will work against him here with two separate awards, unlike the Heisman where it works in his favor

DROY-  Abdul Carter

OROY- Jeanty is the favorite, but there could be other RBs that break out too, it's far from a given

I may do that as well.  Not because of homerism as a Jag fan, but when will this opportunity ever arise again?  Plus the NFL is constantly scripting stories that they think people care about to get viewers…like Brady’s SB gift in Tampa, Kelce’s pet rat, and that 3-peat for KC that Philly was having no part of.  Let’s go!

He could easily be ROY just as a WR. After all, he was consistently regarded as the WR1 in this year's draft class

I think it's a nice long shot bet that could pay out.  Why not?  Who you're a fan of is irrelevant.  I'm not saying break the bank on it, but I think it's a plausible long shot.

I'll take a.stab at.it.

Offensive ROY-  RB OMARION HAMPTON(Chargers)

We know Jim Harbaugh wants to run the ball and he's got an rb that can carry the kind of load it would take to win rookie of the year. Hampton's running mate at Ohio State, Treyvion Henderson, was suppose to be drafted before Hampton and a lot of pundits.would say Henderson is the better of the 2 backs. So now Omarion's hellbent on showjng the NFL and the rest of the teams that passed on him exactly what kind of RB he is. I don't think  it's out of the question that this youngster could push.close to 1,500 rushing yards this year. He'll have competition in Ashton Jeanty who's pretty darn good but I think the Raiders are going to be forced to throw the ball a lot more just to stay in games thus limiting Jeanty's rushing totals. So RB OMARION HAMPTON is my candidate for OROY.

Defensive ROY- DB JAHDAE BARRON- don't have a lot if insight, analysis or prjjection for this rookie but it's more of a gut feeling that at the end of the season he walks away with DROY. I will say though that he's going to have at least 5 INT's maybe more and maybe surprise some people by scoring 2 touchdowns and toss in a few sacks for good measure. So there you have mone.so feel free to rip it apart.

OROY- RB OMARION HAMPTON

DROY- DB JAHDAE BARRON

Hampton didn't go to Ohio State. You're thinking of Judkins.

Hey, if you say it with confidence, more than half the people will believe you. I liked the gusto in his prediction. So wait, is Judkins going to be the ROY now?

I'm going with PJ Harvey ROY.

That's the thing though, there is no ROY award, it's specific to offense and defense.

If it were simply ROY, I think he would have a huge advantage, but the way it is, I think there's a good chance that he comes up a bit short on both sides of the ball to other players who only play on position.

Of course, you never know, they may decide to vote for him any way because he plays both ways even though it shouldn't matter.

Agree, but if he goes for 1200 & 7 then he's probably a lock, depending on Jeanty of course.  But that wouldn't be hard for him if he takes 70+ percent of the offensive snap.

It doesn't sound like they want him playing much defense.

Doh,lol. My age,73, tends to make my brain confused at times. You are right with Judkins going to Ohio State. I just drafted Judkins 4th overall in a recent rookie draft. I still stand by my pick of Omarion Hampton to win offensive rookie of the year. The Chargets should be improved from last year and.the drafting of Hampton means they're going to focus on the run game. Certainly that'll be the case also for Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty, whom.I'm.sure will be a lot of people's favorite to win OROY.

I have a real darhorse candidate for OROY. Jacksonville Jaguars RB BHAYSHUL TUTEN. He currently is slotted in as the #3 EB on the depth chart behind Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby. I feel Bigsby outplayed Etienne which makes me think that Etjenne's not gonna get the touches he's hoping for this year. If Tuten has a.good training.camp.and preseason Etienne could find himself on the bottom of the depth chart. Yrs, it'd be hard for Tuten to get.the majority of touches as I'm certain the coaching staff will want to see.that Bigsby involved a good bit so TUTEN would really have to wow the coaching staff to be the lead.dog. Yup, it's a hard hill for him to climb but we've seen similar stuff happen before so.while he's a real Longshot I'll swing for the fences with him as my darkhorse to win OROY.

Yeah Hunter would have to play amazingly well on offense to win but there's just.oo many other guys, RB &WR,  that will put up better numbers than Hunter. I.don't think Hunter will even come close to the production that Brian Thomas will put up so I'd.scratch Hunter from.the offensive list for ROY. He's probably got a better chance at winning defensive rookie of the year.Anyway, he's probably a better cornerbacj than receiver but there again there's numerous other guys playing defense that.will outplay Hunter but if.Huntet is to win rookie of the year it'll be on defense.

Yes, I agree with that. It will probably be easier for him to win DROY than OROY playing both ways.

Take the number Maximum Overkill put out there, 70% of the offensive snaps. That's a significant amount that he may not reach if he plays CB. But for him to put the numbers of 1200 yds and 7 TDs, he would have to come close to that. I think those numbers are far from a lock and wouldn't necessarily win him OROY because there could be other rookie on offense that put up big numbers, or a QB that comes out of nowhere or something. It would certainly put him in the ball park though solidly to win OROY.

However, on defense, especially playing CB, if he's a ball hawk, he could literally win DROY on a handful of plays. 5 picks and a pick 6 or two and he's will probably win on literally 5 plays

Yup, there's just too many other rookies on offense that should put up better numbers than Hunter and while he might be in the conversation for OROY he'll be down on the list of other rookie players. If he's got a mindset on winning a rookie award he'd be best served tk have his focus on the defensive side n of the ball. As stated he's probably going to need at least 4 if not 5 int's and probably would need a puck 6 in there too. The teams he'll be going.against.will be well aware of his abilities and they may even choose to NOT throw the ball to whomever he's tasking to cover. If that be the case then he could struggle tk even put up numbers worthy of DROY. As much as I hate to say it he could be spreading himself a little thin in working both sides of the ball but his coordinators should have enough smarts to not overwork this kid. If he's overworked it could be a risk of jnjury.and then he's no good to anyone. Personally I'd just like to see him.stick to defense but we'll see.how they use him starting September.

They also let go a bunch of no-names... Wr Devin Duvernay, Te Luke Farrell, Wr Tim Jones, Te Josiah Deguara, Wr Josh Reynolds.

Total revamp of receiving options.
