I don't think she ever needs her marriage certificate for things like passport renewals. Not for passport renewal, but for a NEW passport, you have to provide all of that again. My passport expired and I needed a new one, despite having one that was only 6 months past renewal date I needed to provide ALL of that again. SS card, birth certificate, marriage certificate, and whatever else passports require. My husband and kids don't have passports. We are working on that this year, but there is ONE post office in our area that doesn't require appointments and they only take 20 people a day. People line up there at 5am everyday. To make an appt they are at least 2 to 3 months out.

Our family is going to the Yoop this summer so I'll take my passport (even if I get the Real ID, which I plan to do in June) in case we venture into Canada, eh? Anyway, I just put something in my calendar for mid-August to look into renewing my passport. 6 minutes ago, TheNewGirl said: Not for passport renewal, but for a NEW passport, you have to provide all of that again. Anyway, we went to a courthouse where they also did stuff like marriage licenses. I don't recall setting an appointment, but either way, it was not too long of a wait to get helped. And I verified mine had it. So, I didn't do anything different than I have in the past and I have the new ID. I had to laugh comparing my most recent DMV experience with mine 10 years ago. Then I went in the day after my birthday. My license was expired by one day. They said they could not use my expired license as proof of my identity to issue the new one nor would they take my Bar card, my credit cards, my District Attorney's I.D. and badge. They insisted I go and come back with a bill with my address on it and my name. This last time they just grabbed my expired driver's license adn asked me if I wanted to cahnge anything before issuing me a temporary one. they then took my picture and sent me my secure document, my new license through the mail which is fairly unsecure. I do not have a real ID and have not even thought about it since I have a passport. I would be more shocked to know people don't have passports I just looked. My passport is expired. Will have to renew it. I wonder whether that is still handled by the post office. I will have to look it up.

kilroy69 1,218 Posted May 7 I am not sure what the big deal is. In Michigan all you do is say "yes I would like a real ID" while at the Sec of state and bam. Real ID. Nothing special at all

Always a pain to do and you never know when you will need it.

Now I heard this morning that they’re not even enforcing it; if you don’t have it they just ask a few more questions and you’re good. Lol You could fly without an ID if you just anwered a few more questions. Sometimes it took a looooooooong time.
