Brock Purdy, 49ers agree to 5-year, $265M deal

Recommended Posts

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- From the moment Brock Purdy stepped in as their starter in 2022, the San Francisco 49ers have told anyone who would listen that he is the quarterback of not only their present but also their future.

On Friday, the Niners put significant action behind those words as they agreed to a five-year, $265 million deal that includes $181 million in overall guaranteed money with Purdy, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter

I  figured it'd get done before training camp. Much deserved IMO. If the 49ers can stay healthy this year then Purdy has the skills to gets to the playoffs even after losing Deebo and Aiyuk not healthy yet. Not worried about the run game but if CMC stays healthy he'll put up good numbers and he has a capable backup in Geurendo. I'm looking for a breakout year for Ricky Pearsall which will help and Jennings is still there. Kittle is still a top 5 TE. Schedule will help so at this point I'm optimistic about the 49ers season and glad Brock Purdy got his bag.

I hate it when these kinds of deals go through. Inevitably, he will have an off year. Now is the time to sell high on Jacob Cowling.

well, at least the deal wasnt FULLY guaranteed like some other stupid contracts out there.

it makes him the 8th highest paid QB in the NFL but only a little over 3 years out of the 5 year contract are guaranteed.

While I honestly dont know that any player is worth that kind of money, in the context of what other players are making.... its probably fair in terms of what the market for QB looks like

I'd say hes a cut below the top tier of QB

and the average of the #6 to the #10 ranked QB in terms of salary is almost bang on to what he is getting paid.   He is fully in the range of where he should be.  (give or take about 1 mil per year)

He proved that he can win with the right pieces in place. I doubt he's the type to carry a team but how many QBs can?

Thats what the elite QB's get paid for.

hes a cut below elite, but still a good starting QB.

I dont love him as a player, but I also dont see a better alternative for San Fran.   I think the deal is fair, and if they get/keep the right pieces in place around him I think he will be productive enough and the team has an outside shot at a superbowl.

last couple years the biggest hindrance has been the relative health of the players around him.   but then again, this has been a running theme in San Fran as they seem to have more injuries on average than most NFL teams in recent years.

but that isnt Brocks fault and I wont go into that issue here.

hes a bit of a system QB but thats not an issue so long as the coach remains and he stays on the team.   I think hes his best version of himself in San Fran.  I dont think he goes to another team and performs better.   so this move was good for both sides and the money is at least in an acceptable range for both sides.

Absolutely. He 100% deserves this deal. He's more than a competent starting QB.

I like Brock he's a home town hero in Des Moines... But he's not even top 20 QB .... Built like glass joe ...

Would way way rather have Jayden ... SF got conned

Jayden Daniels' rookie contract with the Washington Commanders is a four-year deal worth $37.75 million, fully guaranteed, including a $24.3 million signing bonus. The contract also includes a fifth-year team option for the 2028 season

I think all of us would rather have jayden.  but there was no way to get him for San fran.   gotta keep the expectations realistic.

Reasonable within the market at this time and Sf has an escape route after 3 years.

With Luke Farrell signing, CMC back, Aiyuk still rehabbing, this will be a run first team.

Just proves how watered down the game is now.

All I'll say is I believe that Brock Purdy will show that he is worth the money they just paid him and his favorite target this year will be Ricky Pearsall.
