It may be that deportation is a moral wrong though it is legally justified.  If it is a moral wrong then that point can be made and will resonate without the cheap theatrics seeking to in some cases interfere with the legitimate speech rights of others and in other cases to obstruct law enforcement.  If there is enough gravitas to break the law in civil disobedience then own that, don't try to claim that there was not civil disobedience, that the unlawful was somehow not unlawful.  Own the actions proudly.  That would place one in the ranks, though lesser, of Gandi and King, righteous company to be among I would say.

Not necessarily. If his end end goal was to seek publicity, he very well may have refused to accept the validity of the paperwork.

It was the first time agents interferred with his escorting immigrants out of the court room who were there for a hearing.

He was just on MSNBC and said the other times there was no incident as he escorted these immigrants out of the court house.

So his job is to escort immigrants out of the court house? Locked arms? It’s odd to me then that he didn’t know how to respond when agents show up to arrest someone that he’s escorting. Hopefully he learned his lesson.

I just read an article on CNN about the incident. I’m now 100% convinced it was a publicity stunt.

“Lander, who is running in a crowded Democratic mayoral primary set to take place next week, had been monitoring immigration court activity in the past few days, walking alongside migrants as they exited their court appointments in response to reports that the migrants were being taken into custody by federal agents following court appearances.”

He escorted 4 families out previously.

Note - squistion said Lander had been doing this for weeks. Is CNN wrong or squistion? If he only escorted 4 families, it certainly makes sense that it was just over the last few days.

It’s more than 1 week.  He wanted publicity to show he was standing up for due process. I don’t think he wanted to be arrested.  Edit: And yes @BrahmaBulls, he was arrested, according to DHS

When I wrote earlier that I was troubled by what the comptroller had done it was based on a description that was offered here. When I watched the video I changed my mind. No law enforcement was impeded, this wasn’t a stunt, Lauder did nothing wrong.
