MikeMatt 90 Posted July 8 https://nypost.com/2025/07/07/sports/anthony-volpes-dad-sticks-up-for-struggling-yankees-star-in-heated-argument-with-mets-fans/ So if you didn’t hear about this - Yankees shortstop Volpe was playing in Citifeild over the weekend and apparently a Met fan was saying sh1t to/about him - we do not know for sure but Volpe’s family was sitting a few rows back and the dad confronted the Met fan as much as challenging him to a fist fight. What is your take ? Dad defending his (adult) son ? Does this embarrass Anthony ? Father should expect this behavior especially on the road. (BTW from what I hear is Yankee fans are killing Volpe at the stadium so maybe Mr Volpe ahkod not go to home games either.). WFAN hosts all have different opinions. Grace Under Pressure 114 Posted July 8 Anthony Volpe's dad should take a seat.
posty 2,700 Posted July 8 Ribbing a player used to be done all in jest decades ago... Unfortunately with social media, there is no filter any more and while some are still being done in jest, it is a lot worse... Either way, I think he needs to put his rabbit ears away and let it go... Who knows how crazy the other person is, how many people would help them out, if there are any weapons other than fists involved... I know it is easier said than done, but it is worth a shot... Alias Detective 1,401 Posted July 8 This is really an issue? You sit back, shut the F up and enjoy your son living his dream playing professional baseball at the highest level. What a bunch of pu**ies ya'll become.
BufordT 434 Posted July 8 Families in the stands need to ignore fans, most of which are stupid. They should be schooled on this as soon as their son turns pro. If it was my father I’d probably be embarrassed. That said, Volpe sure can use some of his old man’s tenacity for crying out loud!
TBayXXXVII 2,545 Posted July 8 If I were Volpe's dad, I'd sit there and laugh out loud while my kid is one of only 20,000 people to ever play in MLB, and this dope is telling my kid that he stinks.

This How many guys get to say his son hit a grand slam in the World Series and has a bobble head give away in Yankee Stadium coming up.
WhiteWonder 2,738 Posted July 8 His Dad was my moms doctor (plenty of jokes here I'm sure) He should sit down and shut up, or sit in a box. Heckling etc should be expected and I really don't think its any different AT a game now than it was 20-30 years ago. The only difference now is off the field with social media harassment of players which they really don't deserve.

I sent the link to the article you posted to a friend who is a Phillies fan. He said that reminds him of when he was at a game after Mickey Moniak was called up. It was the 2021 season, as it was coming to a close, he's not getting any hits only getting 1 AB a game at the time. The kid strikes out and his batting average drops below .100 (yes, .100). Some dude is trashing the kid and said something to the effect of "I can't believe they gave you $6M". A guy, right next to my friend yelled over to him (just 2 rows and 5 seats away), "How much have you made in the major leagues"? That other dude tells him to pizz off. The guy next to my friend and starts laughing, leans over to my friend and said that Mickey was his nephew. Pulled out his wallet and showed him some pictures. My friend says the kid's uncle was a really nice dude. But that's the right way to handle the situation.
