Strike will never post in this thread again

He’ll probably come in now to whine about “SDS” or something without addressing the fact that he posted a blatantly false tweet.

Not to mention I don’t think home price declines are something to really celebrate if they are happening.  It will not he good for the economy overall.

Since Strike doesn't know how to embed an x link, I did it for all you

It's definitely an odd post.  Since I believe in facts, data and the truth and not rando x posts, I decided to look into the claim.

First thing I did was to validate that the change in median list price from January 2025 to January 2026 did decrease by 7.3%.

This claim could not be supported.

https://www.spyglassrealty.com/blog/austin-housing-market.html

Key developments through 2025:

Price correction continues: Median prices declined 1-4% year-over-year depending on timeframe and source

So that is false.

Next I did an AI query on what metro areas have the largest illegal alien populations.

Results:

Metro Area    Estimated Population
New York City Metro    ~1.1 Million
Los Angeles Metro    900,000
Houston Metro    600,000
Dallas-Fort Worth    500,000
Chicago Metro    450,000

So I really don't know how Austin got to be number 1 there.

Seeing that the data points are clearly false, there is no need to entertain the conclusion being made that mass deportations are lowering property values.  I mean an idiot can recognize that illegals are not scooping up $450k homes in Austin, nor are they now selling them because they are deported.  How do you sell a home after getting deported anyway?  I digress.

In conclusion, let this be a lesson to anyone that believes everything they see on right wing social media.  Hopefully @Strike learned his lesson.

Edited to Add:

It occured to me that they could be talking about the metro areas with the largest % of illegals, so I ran that...

Metro Area    Estimated Share of Population
Las Vegas, NV    ~7.5% – 8.2%
Houston, TX    ~6.8% – 7.1%
Austin, TX    ~5.9% – 6.4%
Miami, FL    ~5.5% – 6.1%
Dallas-Fort Worth    ~5.2% – 5.8%

Austin does show up at #3, but none of the other ones do.  Data just seems wrong, at the least unsourced and therefore unbelievable.

So in the NYC metro 1 million would be about 5% of the total population.  Dang have they all been deported already?  Because that’s the only way they might have a significant impact on rents overall (and still probably not sale prices).

So 1 million extra people has no impact on the price of housing. Got it. Morons.

5% of people, more likely to have larger household sizes and thus taking up less than 5% of the total housing stock, paying rent (not buying except in rare instances) largely in the bottom 10-20% price bracket is going to have very little impact on purchase prices.

And deportations of a small % of that 5% is certainly going to have even less of an impact on if prices are declining.

So they are competing in The same space for housing as the rest of us in the area?

That dude is so dumb he doesn't even realize when he owns himself.

I'd recommend just not engaging with him. Makes this place much nicer. Maybe if enough people stop engaging him he will fake a health scare again for sympathy.

No Tim, the point is they aren’t competing with me. So it’s a smaller pool of the housing market you are cramming that million into. If I put my house up for sale, illegals aren’t going to buy it. They are renters.

Thanks for confirming illegals didn’t drive up prices to buy a house!

Holy sh!t HT is stupid. He outright admitted illegals aren't driving up house prices after arguing for days now they are.

Real smooth brain energy from him. And to think he claims they used to let him carry a gun. He can't even carry a conversation

Lol No one sells a rental property. What can you do with these morons ? And the cost of housing includes rent, which illegals certainly drive the cost of up.

Don't know, don't care.  If that's the case though, he knows more about economics than the libs who don't think millions of illegals can have an impact of housing prices.

Because I didn't post a false tweet, and it's not worth getting in to a pissing match about it as you like to do about everything.  BTW, a very promnent gamer thinks we should deport all Somali's convicted of fraud and their entire families so that should inform your opinion about illegal immigration.  I know how much you respect gamers.   HTH.

In theory sure, more inventory = lower prices. In reality, most illegals are low wage workers living as whole families in single apartments.

I guess if you’re looking for a junior 1 BR or studio it’s potentially good news. :dunno:

No. Did Econ 101 cover the impact of deporting millions of low wage apartment dwellers at your college?

Darn I was almost going to put in my earlier post that you’d probably make some quip about a gaming chatroom.

But yes, you did post a false tweet.  It was not the metros with the largest populations of illegal immigrants, it was the metros with the largest populations of total people.

And of course that discussion was about whether deportations are causing prices to come down, you’ve now changed the subject to did the initial influx in illegal immigrants cause them to go up in the first place. There’s some argument for that, particularly in areas with a significant % of illegals as a share of their total population (of which NYC is not one).  But implying that deportations are causing significant price declines in areas where median home prices are $1.5 million is laughable.
