Grab a QB early in this format?

Recommended Posts

Picking first in 12 man ppr; league is 4 pts for passing tds and 6 for all other tds with no passing yardage bonuses (25 passing yards per point).
Rushing qbs are quite valuable in this format. I’ve been grabbing Lamar often on the 2/3 turn.
would you take Lamar, Josh Allen, or just wait on qb in this format?

I'm in the opposite system... 6 pts passing td and 1/2 pt per completion. So I ALWAYS wait for a Qb ... like rd 9 or later (Goff please).

But in your league, I'd be inclined to draft Allen early like you're saying at the 2/3 turn. He's God's fantasy gift in that system. Moreso than Lamar IMO.

It depends on who else is there. I wouldn't hesitate to draft a QB, but I wouldn't go out of my way to do so either...

Same Qb scoring system I’ve always been in involved in .  No need to rush.

I agree with WeePaws. You can get your cheat code QB later than that. Nix, Fields, Maye, Murray, etc.

I agree with waiting with one caveat:  J Hurts has an ADP of 40, or early to mid 4th round.  I would take him if he falls to your pick at 48, especially in this format.

Nope.  I never take QB's early.  I decided to try that this year in the FFToday mock and took Daniels in the 4th.  Didn't like the result.  I felt like I was chasing every round thereafter.  Jackson averaged 25 fpg last year, his norm is around 21/22, I wouldn't bank on 25 again.  You can get good QB production in every round... there's no need to do it in R's 2, 3, 4, or 5, when that's where the best RB/WR talent is.  I'd want at least 2 (preferably 3), RB's and 3 (preferably 4 or 5), WR's and maybe 1 TE, before I'd even consider a QB.

Waiting until R8 (for example), to take a QB will likely land you Jared Goff, Dak Prescott, Justin Fields, or Justin Herbert... all of which who could get you about 19+ fpg.

If you didn't want to wait that long, Mayfield is probably the best value on the board going in R6.  He's got great targets, an excellent OLine, a great backfield that isn't run dependent, and a fairly aggressive offence.  Do I think he throws for 4500 and 41 again this year?  No, but I think 4200 and 35 is realistic.  Gotta figure he'll give you something running... call it 250 and 2.  All of those are a regression and would still get you 20 fpg.

Now, those are ADP's.  I don't think in home leagues, Mayfield goes that early.  Again, look at the FFToday mock that we did, Mayfield went in the 8th.  Look at those other guys I mentioned... Goff and Fields went in the 9th, Dak the 11th and Herbert in the 12th.

Too me, this is a zig when everyone is zagging situation.

If your league is taking a lot of QBs early, wait.  If everyone is waiting and you can get one of the high rushing upside QBs like lamar, allen, hurts without sacrificing rb1/wr1 or high-end wr2 value I'd go for it in late 3rd or 4th.

My thought process is that if folks are taking QBs, high value rbs and wrs are getting artificially pushed down.  If not, there probably isn't compelling value at rb/wr anyway.

Totally agree.  I took Borrow at the 4/5 turn in that mock after taking Chase at 1 overall.  Two things I would probably not do in a real draft, but like you I was curious what it would look like…I did like it.  My RBs suffered greatly.  I liked your Bryce Young and my Trevor Lawrence picks the best.  I think pairing either of them with a Mayfield/Dak/Fields you are in great shape.
