MLB offseason thread

Also if their plan is to really keep playing cags in rf, this should help that cause as well.  Doesn't feel like they are going to land a better option via free agency this year and salvy is going to need more time at DH to get Jensen in the lineup.

Ya mean, AFTER he played.  So don't vote him in as HOF manager. But a player?  Apparently, the HOF isn't only about stats, but also what kind of person they were while they played and after.  I'm more black and white - just show me the stats.  Otherwise it gets too convoluted.

His stats are HOF worthy, but he did have drunk driving accident years later, though he did seem really sorry about it.  Gee I don't know.

He was a player-manager for his first three years of managing…

There's no cap, it's not your money, and bad business decisions don't seem to stop them from spending in the future.  I'm not sure what the problem is if you're a fan of teams with a top 10 payroll.

I don't know that i know exactly what you're asking.   But the five years is because I think they'll be in a new park in five years and want actual data to back up their assertions for how they design the new park dimensions.

The post of yours that I initially responded to, you said you think it's a "test" to see how the field plays.  I found that odd.  To me, based on what you said after that, they don't need to test anything because they have all of the data they need.  Also, another reason why a "test" would be meaningless, is because as I said in my post you just responded to, the players they have now... outside of Witt, will ANY batter still be on this team in 5 years?  I'd venture to say "No".

Wat? 26 million

He might have read that as $300M? :dunno:

LOL, if Suarez got $60M AAV, not even the Dodgers would be able to pay Skenes!  Dude would be making a $200M a year!! 🤣

Test how those dimensions play in the KC weather, atmosphere, etc.  Give the coaches and players a feel for if they like playing with a shorter team for their home environment.  Because that feedback could play into how the new dimensions are designed in the new stadium, based on the feedback from moving them in based on the data.  Maybe I'm just confusing myself :dunno:

Also, I could see scenarios where in addition to BWJ... Maikel Garcia, Vinnie Pasquantino, Jac Caglianone, and Carter Jensen all are still playing for the team in 2031, and that's a core group of this year's roster :dunno:

what would you hope to come out of a strike that would improve the game?

Depends on if there's a cap or not.  If there's a cap, I think he's topping out at around $25M.  If there is no cap, then yeah, $100M is possible.

Listening to one podcast, they felt the players would probably agree to a cap system (which has to include a floor), because it would guarantee that the league pays the players on par with what the other leagues are getting (around 50%).  It's basically what they're getting now, it just locks the number in.  They thought something like what the NBA has where they have a soft cap that could be exceeded, would work.  This may be the only reason why the Pirates shouldn't give Skenes a new deal right now.  To note, Spotrac.com has Skenes' market value at $39M AAV (13 years, $506,773,501), as a reference, they have Skubal at $37.5M AAV.  If there's a salary cap (say around $200M), the Pirates could probably get him to re-sign for about $20M AAV.

First, get rid of all the rule changes that Manfred has done since becoming commissioner...

No deferred contracts…. If you want to sign Ohtani $70m/yr, that is what you are paying…. No grandfathering in, they must be paid immediately…

All TV money is pulled together from all the clubs and divided evenly among the teams…. It is really unfair to the small markets…

Contract by two teams…  Each division will have seven teams and top two from each division go to the playoffs…

Now can get rid of interleague play with equal amount in AL/NL…  This will allow the NL to remove the DH that was added…

Again, remove all of the rule changes that Manfred has made...  This is the big one that MUST be done...

Do you think these types of changes would improve the enjoyment of the game and league from the casual fans perspective? Or just make it more enjoyable for you and other baseball traditionalists?

Different sport, but when Texas was in the Big 12 they demanded - and got 50% of all tv revenue. Jackasses. The SEC has always done equal revenue sharing... even lowly Vanderbilt gets an equal check.

I'll never forgive them for letting in Texas. Bastards should've stayed where they were.
