RedzoneMonster 110 Posted Sunday at 02:32 AM Am I the only one who thinks that 90% of the time a team goes into the hurry up offense they move the ball better? Even an offense that’s been struggling all day seems to suddenly get better. So my question is, why don’t teams just go hurry up 100% if the time? Ok, I know there needs to be substitutions and all, so maybe 80% of the time?
LaChup 258 Posted Sunday at 02:35 AM I agree. Why the no sense of urgency until when the game is on the line at the very end? I would even try to incorporate the hurry up defense if I could.
LaChup 258 Posted Sunday at 02:36 AM Scores would be something like 228-203.
Drogon 25 Posted Sunday at 02:50 AM The O-Line would be dead. Those guys aren't out there because they have great cardiovascular/respiratory systems lol.
Showboat 292 Posted Sunday at 04:39 PM Often, by the time the offense is in hurry-up mode, the defense is going into prevent mode (which is another questionable strategy for another thread), which allows the offense to move the ball in exchange for keeping the clock ticking. Payton is dragging down that offense trying to force the run game
Maximum Overkill 2,466 Posted Monday at 09:57 PM Chip Kelly tried it when he was with the Eagles. By the second half both the offense and defense were worn out. They got crushed in second halfs.
polecatt 485 Posted 15 hours ago This has been tried time and time again. It mostly depends on how good the offense is. If I remember correctly the Bills tried this in their 4 super bowl loss period and it worked pretty well for a time.

Yeah, having an all-time great QB, all-time great RB, and an all-time great WR, definately improves your chances for success.
WhiteWonder 2,938 Posted 7 hours ago It amazes me that people still seriously suggest this. It's almost as if they never played sports on any high school level or above. It's not sustainable. It looks good when they do it because they have not completely gassed themselves yet and as someone else already mentioned, it tends to happen in times where the defense is playing soft coverage. Now if you want to say why don't they run it a bit more often? Like every 4th drive or something, okay. That might be plausible. Or just play with a slightly greater sense of urgency (3-4 seconds off the play clock, or mix in a few more quick snap plays).. but it's definitely not going to be as successful if you run it 100% of the time
