Cuse, my friend - I'd like your take on two DEEP sleepers for my dynasty league supplememtal draft. Since I have the 33 and the 45th pick in the draft and most teams including mine already have 17 players on their roster, I doubt there will be anything but table scraps left. Here's two 'table scraps'. I think Leinart and Tennessee's rookie TE Zack Miller are likely to be available.

Question about Leinart: Can he EVER be a stud - since I have Peyton, I don't need him for this year, but Warner is pretty old and fragile and AZ has great receivers. Good choice?

I've heard great things about the other Zack Miller. Do you have any specific thoughts about him?

Leinart is slowly fading away. His ability at USC was masked by Bush, White, Smith, Williams....That quick release he has is gone now. He can't read defenses and he has terrible footwork. I really thought he would shine coming into the NFL. As it sits, he's behind Brian St. Pierre currently. I wouldn't waste a pick on him. Whisenhunt is in Zona for awhile. Obviously Warner is #1 and after him the Cards has put their faith in St. Pierre, which means there is no reason to put your faith in Leinart.

I don't know much about Miller. I do the Jags don't use their TE's much. Lewis is a very good TE and they simply don't involve him enough to be a good fantasy option. Miller was a sixth rounder from Neb-Omaha, so we can assume he'll need at least a year to adjust to the NFL and especially the speed aspect.

There has got to be better options. What about QB's Chad Henne? John David Booty, he'll take over the reigns once Favre is gone?! Then you have guys like Andre Brown, big fast rb for the Giants. He's out for the year, but he could turn into a nice back two or three years down the road? Johnny Knox from Chicago is doing great, he could get nice PT this year and become a starter next year! Deon Grant in Seattle. Burleson, Branch and TJ are up there in age. Branch and Burleson aren't exactly top tier, so Grant is a super third year breakout player. If you want to go reeeal deep....Colt Brennan. It's no secret that Zorn isn't sold on Campbell. If he struggles early don't be surprized to see Brennan come in. With that offense Colt could become a very good QB.

There are alot of options that are better than Leinart/Miller. Explore them all.

Alot of questions go unanswered this time of year. Ask away in here and I'll answer every question. My answers are always mixed with facts and opinions. I may not always have the correct answer, but I'll definitly give you an answer that gives you something to think about! I've always had fun doing this in the past and look forward to having fun with it again. As with past years I simply ask that you keep questions inside the thread.

Ask away!

11 team Keeper league-PPR-QB, 3WR, 2RB, TE, K, DEF

I have the 7th pick in the 1st Rd and wondering how you would approach this draft.

We were able to keep up to 3 players from previous year but have to take them 2 rounds earlier than previous year if we decide to keep them. I kept Brees Rd 2, Rice Rd 8, Pierre Thomas Rd 13 for this year.

Some key players as keepers already taken by other league teams are:

RB-Forte, Ward, Johnson, Benson, Brown, Turner, K Smith, DWilliams, White, Slaton

WR-CJohnson, Jennings, RWhite, Boldin, Royal, VJackson

QB-Ryan, Rodgers, Warner, Cassell, Cutler

I look at Thomas as a RB1 (or should I?)-should I strongly consider a WR as my 1st Rd pick or just take the best available player depending how it shakes out. Brees is my automatic 2nd Rd pick. I will have the 6th pick in the 3rd Rd as one other team has a 3rd Rd pick locked.

How good will Frank Gore be this year-he's not exciting but he's consistent.

Any ideas appreciated!!

The PPR dynasty team I bought early this spring was:

Romo, Hasselbeck, S Hill, T Gonzo, Daniels

Grant, L Johnson, Hightower, J Jones, M Bush, Washington, J Harrison, J Hester

Edwards, Evans, Holt, S Rice, Hardy, K Burton, Reggie Brown

Josh Brown, GBP D/ST

After signigicant trades and mandatory cutdown, it now looks like this:

Peyton, Josh Freeman, Witten

L Johnson, W Parker, McGahee, Bradshaw, Washington, D Brown, B Scott

Boldin, Driver, L Moore, Camarillo, Nicks, M Thomas, Matt Jones

Total roster:17

My twin objectives when I bought the team ($100 buy-in) was to make it into the money THIS year by trading for the studs I could get (Peyton, Witten, and Boldin) and by injecting fresh young talent.

Now it is getting close to my 1st pick in the supplemental draft. Although some of these prospects will be gone (there are still 4 picks in front of me) I've identified the top prospects left as:

RBs: Betts, Hillis, K Faulk

WRs: Cribbs, Barden, Butler, Floyd

Given the picks that have been made so far, it is likely that most will fall to me for my 1st pick - after that who knows?

Let's just discuss my 1st pick.

RBs are scarce as hens teeth in this league, so I've pretty much decided to go RB with my 1st pick (but could be talked out of it):

Betts could be gold if Portis goes down, which is very likely at some point.

Hillis is one of the most under-rated RBs in the league, could very easily become #2 behind Moreno, and at some point will get his own starting gig.

Faulk is nice for PPR, but getting old and the NE backfield is still a clusterbomb.

BTW, I'm not afraid at all of going with both Peyton and Witten naked and picking up WW a bye week replacement. You prolly read my "draft strategy" article where i believe in giving myself as many RB and WR "lottery tickets"

as possible.

I think I'll take what is left of the 2 top ranked RBs (probably in the order I've listed them), but switch to WR instead of taking Faulk if he's the only RB still available on this list.

So...I respect your opinion....What say you?

Nice value with your keepers. Pierre is definitly a RB1. As long as he can stay healthy, he's a great back with a world of potential in front of him.

As for your #7 I would definitly try for a wr with that pick. Six are already gone, but there should be some very good ones that fall to you. Let's assume the first six picks are: Fitz, AJ, Moss, MJD, Peterson, Jackson. The potential of Brady is there and some others, you should have Steve Smith smiling at you with that pick. I play in a 12-team PPR (1 pt) keeper league and I'm currently slotted as the #6 pick.

Each team is allowed to keep up to four players. If you keep one player, you lose your 1st round pick...two players, 1st and 2nd round pick...etc.

I originally intended to keep Kurt Warner, Roddy White, Kevin Smith, and Darren McFadden. If I do this, my first pick will be the 6th pick of the 5th round.

I've started to look at this league from a value standpoint and have come to the conclusion that Warner is not worth a pick in the first 4 rounds. While many of the top players will be kept, there will still be good value picks available in rounds 4 and 5. If I let Warner walk, I can grab a better WR/RB in the 4th round and then consider taking a QB in round 5 or 6.

Here's who may be available when it's my turn to pick in the 4th round, should I only keep 3 players:

Marion Barber

Larry Johnson

Derrick Ward

Ray Rice

Knowshon Moreno

Reggie Bush

Thomas Jones

Jonathan Stewart

Lendale White

Dwayne Bowe

Roy E Williams

Jerricho Cotchery

Anthony Gonzalez

Vincent Jackson

Terrell Owens

Santonio Holmes

Braylon Edwards

Eddie Royal

Even though he's been getting a chance to start as a wr, it won't happen. He's too valuable for the Browns on special teams. They have Furrey, Robiskie and Massoquoi. There is no reason to get Cribbs too involved in the offense.

Bottom line is if you're going to grab a question mark, why not grab one that has bigtime potential. Butler and Barden both have the potential to be stars.

Lastly, do hens have teeth?

I'm going to agree with you. While I love Warner this year. There are too many other good players you can grab and still get a very good QB later. If you can land Barber? Moreno? Bush? Bowe? Owens? Royal? I would much rather have them over Warner. You would still be able to draft a guy like Schaub/Palmer/Ryan/McNabb??? in the 5th/6th round.

You know your league though. Do guys go nuts over QB's or let them slide in favor of other postions? While I agree with dropping Warner in favor of of some of the other guys that may be available, you need to be SURE you will get equal or better value if you let him go!

IF you have a good idea what is going to be there, I wouldn't hesitate to drop McFadden either. If I knew I could get Barber or Moreno over McFadden...I would! McFadden does have great potential, but who knows what they are going to try and do in Oakland?! He is a good keeper, I just hate the non-offense that Oakland has produced the past decade! Seems like Rich Gannon was light years ago!!

Like I said, make sure you will get equal or better value for dropping Warner. If you know you'll get a better player, by all means do it!!

You're fine. Portis a good #1. As for McFadden, I'm not so sure he's your #2 or #5? McFadden, Moreno and Rice all have a world of potential. Personally I really like Moreno this year and Rice seems be getting better by the day. Lynch is good, he just needs to stay out of trouble! We all know McFadden has a world of potential. Whether he'll be able to fulfill it in Oakland remains to be seen? I think you're sitting great. A solid back in Portis and four backs that should do very well.

Your biggest problem is going to be weeks 1-5. You're going to have a tough time deciding which one to start. It's hard to play match-up games for your starters. About the time you sit McFadden for Rice, McFadden blows up! You really need one of your guys to really step up and make it a no brainer to start him. If they are all doing decent, you're going to pull your hair out trying to figure out which ones to sit and which ones to start!

I think you did a great job corralling your rb's in any event. The problem I foresee is definitly a good problem! Much better than trying to decide which back might get you twenty yards.

I wouldn't try and upgrade, in the long run it may end up that you actually downgraded. Great potential. Let the season sort them out and see who rises to the top.

Thanks Cuse for the quick reply. I also have Matt Schaub and Calvin Johnson under contract. And I have matching rights on Andre Johnson and Antonio Gates. It's an auction draft, and I will still have a little money to play with. Assuming I keep Johnson and Gates, do you think QB becomes my #1 need or a strong #3 WR like Roy Williams, Braylon, or even Reggie Wayne? I like Schaubs upside, but could make a play for Manning, McNabb or Phillip Rivers. Thanks again!

I've been offered Roddy White and Brandon Marshall for Larry Fitzgerald. It's a keeper league - my current roster is

Kurt Warner

Michael Turner

Kevin Smith

Marhawn Lynch

Larry Fitzgerald

Laveranues Coles

Tony Gonzalez

I could use the WR help but Marshall is a risk right now. Do I pull the trigger and accept the trade? Any help is appreciated.

Hey, Cuse. I just finished my local league draft. It ballooned up to 14 teams this year and I drafted from #12. All TDs 6 points, .5 PPR, and 1 point/25 return yards. Just looking for an initial assessment before I start wheeling and dealing. In hindsight I wish I'd waited longer on TE even though Clark was nice value at 6.03, as Zach Miller and Keller were available 3 rounds later and Celek actually went undrafted. QBs went very early--when I grabbed Schaub at 4.03, he was the 10th off the board. I feel shaky at flex, but have to keep reminding myself that Washington's probably going to get me 40-50 points off kick return yardage. I may drop one of the Cowboys on my bench just to stash Celek in case I choose to use Clark as trade bait.

QB: Matt Schaub

RB: Steven Jackson

RB: Kevin Smith

WR: Randy Moss

WR: DeSean Jackson

RB/WR: Leon Washington

TE: Dallas Clark

DST: Green Bay

K: John Kasay

BN Earnest Graham

BN Fred Taylor

BN Tashard Choice

BN Ted Ginn Jr.

BN Steve Smith (NYG)

BN Patrick Crayton

BN Joe Flacco

Whaddaya think?

Hey Cuse,

I have been doing a Mock of my 12 team 5 keeper league...through first 4 rounds..trying to determine who my 5 keepers should be...

choices

Rodgers

SJax

Chris Johnson

Kevin Smith

Fitzy

Ocho

Deshaun

We start:

1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 flex at Rb or WR, 1 TE, k , def

Kinda funny scoring...WR and TE get PPR...RB's DO NOT get PPR...TEs get 5 point bonus at 50 yards

Scoring

QB's 1 pt/50 yards, 5 pt bonus at 250, 6 pt tds

RBs and WRs 1pt/ 25 yards, 5 pt bonus at 100, 6 pt tds

WRs get 1 ppr

TEs 1 pt/25 yards, 5 pt bonus at 50, 6 pt tds, 1 PPR

option A:

Rodgers

Chris Johnson

Steven Jackson

Kevin Smith

Fitzy

Driver

Hester

Ginn Jr

Olsen

OR

Option B:

Rodgers

Chris Johnson

Steven Jackson

Donald brown

Fitzy

Ocho

Driver

Evans

Olsen

or

ok one more option...option C...If I keep 3 WRs...based on the fact that WRs get PPR and are 3 times more valuable than RBs

Aaron Rodgers

Steven Jackson

Ray Rice

Cedric Benson or Wells or Brown

DeSean Jackson

Chad Ochocinco

Larry Fitzgerald

Devin Hester or Ginn

Greg Olsen

I am not a big fan of this option but the RBs are not terrible...of course they dont score much in this league

Like I said It was only a Mock that I did based on me keeping different players and what I think others will draft...it could go totally different but if you had to choose which do you like better

thanks for any thoughts you can give me

Lastly, do hens have teeth?

I haven't seen any teeth, but they sure do have sharp beaks. I have more belief in Hillis - particularly longer term - than u do, but I picked before I got ur response.. And i wish I knew that James was gonna sign with Seattle. I really think he has a good shot at winning the starting job there. I've NEVER been impressed with Julius. BTW he's available along with about 7 receivers in the Barden, Butler mold. Also on the board is Muhsin muhammad. I'm inclined to go with him if he's still there. As a WR4, which I could use, I think he's a lock for 55-750 and 4TDs. so there are good choices left and 6 picks before I pick again.

My dilemna....If no one takes James, can he help my team more than Moose can (but I've got a sh1tload of RBs right now), or should I go with a development guy like Butler (who is at the top of the 'youngster list.') Like i said, I have to temper my number of 'developmental' players' with ones that can get me in the play-offs THIS year - I think i have a realistic chance.

14-team, 2 man keeper. I think you know the rules and scoring....

Top 5 QBs left (based on FFToday Projections): McNabb, Warner, Rivers, Romo, Schaub

Top 5 RBs left : Barber, Jacobs, Thomas, Smith, Larry Johnson

Top 5 WRs left : Calvin, Jennings, Colston, Roy Williams, TJHoush

I'm keeping Brees and Tomlinson and have the 13th pick in the first round and no pick again until the 24th overall in the 3rd round. I have no 4th round pick and my 5th round pick is the 59th overall pick.

I will assume that by my 1st pick the top 6 QBs, top 17 RBs and top 10 WRs will be gone (based again on FFT projections).

Plan A: With the 13th pick I can either go for a #2 RB and target Larry Johnson, Darren McFadden or Derrick Ward, then come back with the 24th pick and get Desean Jackson, Bernard Berrian or Anthony Gonzalez.

Plan B: Target Wes Welker or Houshmandzadeh with the 13th pick and possibly target Reggie Bush or Thomas Jones at 24.

Plan C: Go for Welker/Housh at 13, Jackson/Berrian/Gonzalez at 24 and maybe get Jonathan Stewart....

Hell I don't know. I'm starting to think I really suck at fantasy football. Help me out. What would you do?

How would you analyze L. Tomlinson and De. Williams?

My league is .5 ppr 10 yards=1 point rush/rec , 6 point =td

Who would be the better option in this format? Seems like people have these 2 guys all over the board.

THanks buddy

Hey Cuse,

I have been doing a Mock of my 12 team 5 keeper league...through first 4 rounds..trying to determine who my 5 keepers should be...

choices

Rodgers

SJax

Chris Johnson

Kevin Smith

Fitzy

Ocho

Deshaun

Great list to choose from. If it's five keepers you can assume just about all top tier players will be kept. So, I would keep all your top tiered players: Aaaron Rodgers, Steven Jackson, Chris Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald are no-brainers. Now, Kevin Smith, Ocho or DeSean....hmmm. I love DeSean. I think he's in for a great year, he's primed to build off of last year and break-out. I'm wearing thin of the antics of Ocho. He used to back them up, now he's all talk. Kevin Smith is a very talented back, with a rookie QB, new head coach...alot of new?! Of the three I would go for the "surest" thing. DeSean has better talent around him than he had last year. I would feel safest keeping him.

We start:

1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 flex at Rb or WR, 1 TE, k , def

Kinda funny scoring...WR and TE get PPR...RB's DO NOT get PPR...TEs get 5 point bonus at 50 yards

Scoring

QB's 1 pt/50 yards, 5 pt bonus at 250, 6 pt tds

RBs and WRs 1pt/ 25 yards, 5 pt bonus at 100, 6 pt tds

WRs get 1 ppr

TEs 1 pt/25 yards, 5 pt bonus at 50, 6 pt tds, 1 PPR

option A:

Rodgers

Chris Johnson

Steven Jackson

Kevin Smith

Fitzy

Driver

Hester

Ginn Jr

Olsen

OR

Option B:

Rodgers

Chris Johnson

Steven Jackson

Donald brown

Fitzy

Ocho

Driver

Evans

Olsen

or

ok one more option...option C...If I keep 3 WRs...based on the fact that WRs get PPR and are 3 times more valuable than RBs

Aaron Rodgers

Steven Jackson

Ray Rice

Cedric Benson or Wells or Brown

DeSean Jackson

Chad Ochocinco

Larry Fitzgerald

Devin Hester or Ginn

Greg Olsen

I am not a big fan of this option but the RBs are not terrible...of course they dont score much in this league

Like I said It was only a Mock that I did based on me keeping different players and what I think others will draft...it could go totally different but if you had to choose which do you like better

thanks for any thoughts you can give me

I would simply go with the QB, RB, RB, WR, WR. This leaves your options completely open. With your first pick you can take the best player that falls to you. You won't force yourself to take a WR or RB out of necessity. You can simply take the best player that falls to you. Plus those five will give you a solid foundation and should put up solid points all year. I would use some early picks to try and grab Knowshon, Donald Brown, McCoy. Use some mid-rounders to grab some rookie WR's. There are some great ones this year. Being able to keep five you always want to ensure that you get a couple rookies with massive upside.

I'm sure you'll do the right thing. You drafted a great team last year (judging from your keepers)

Good Luck!!

Okay, LT.

First thing that jumps out is that he is 30 years old. That is the age when RB's historically breakdown. There are always a few that defy the odds and LT may very well be one of them. In a weird way the injuries he's had the past few years may have given him an extra year of greatness. Being injured and on the sidelines doesn't get you smashed up and you don't take that beating. My opinion on LT keeps changing for the better the closer we get to kick-off! He's in great shape and he's ready to carry SD all the way.

The analogy: The main things you should have read is that he is "in great shape" and "ready to carry SD all the way." If LT is not in great shape, SD will not win it all. So, the days of him getting 320+ carries are done. If you're Norv Turner why would you want him to shoulder so much during the regular season. The only goal in SD is to win a Super Bowl. There is no reason not to give Sproles more touches. Why not let an experienced and proven Rivers throw the ball around. SD's offense is balanced pretty well compared to the days of LT's fantasy dominance. Hence, no more dominance. You can still expect close to 275 carries and 1200 yards and 12+ TD's with 45-350 through the air.

DeAngelo. Do you see any reason DeAngelo won't produce the same numbers this year that he did last year? They have a superior offensive line. A steady performer at QB. Their wr duo is one of the best/underrated you'll find. One thing about Muhsin, he's prolly the best blocking wr in the league, which of course helps spring DA for longer runs. DA isn't a big guy, so splitting caries with Stewart only helps keep him fresh for every game and through the season. It showed last year. He exploded in the second half last year. He scored 11 TD's in the final four games. Fantasy gold there!! I look for him to be a little short of his 1500 yd performance last year, but I think he'll almost double his receiving numbers and add 17-19 TDs total.

As for where they are drafted, you are absolutely right....they go every and anywhere! Some people think LT is over the hill, while others see one more great year. DeAngelo's year may have been a fluke or a glimpse of what is to come for the next 4-5 years!? Nobody can know for sure! You can expect LT to go around pick 7-8 in redrafts. DeAngelo is gonna go early to mid second. This is a tough year to draft. A ton of potential/question marks for so many rb's.

Personally I would take DeAngelo for a simple reason. I think you can get DeAngelo later. I would rather grab AJ/Moss/Fitz with pick 7 or 8 and hope I could get DeAngelo in the second round.

The bottom line is I believe LT will stay healthy all year and perform great for his team. He won't be the fantasy beast he once was though. The coaching staff remained entirely entact in Carolina...why wouldn't they stick with what worked for them last year. They were 12-4, so stick with it. I expect DeAngelo to be given every opportunity to reproduce last years numbers. LT will go earlier in drafts, but I think DeAngelo will be the clear winner in fantasy terms.

Hope that helps, good luck.

I've been offered Roddy White and Brandon Marshall for Larry Fitzgerald. It's a keeper league - my current roster is

Kurt Warner

Michael Turner

Kevin Smith

Marhawn Lynch

Larry Fitzgerald

Laveranues Coles

Tony Gonzalez

I could use the WR help but Marshall is a risk right now. Do I pull the trigger and accept the trade? Any help is appreciated.

I turned down the trade due to the uncertainty of Marshall. Do you think I made the right decision.

Nice, very nice!! For a ten team league you drafted stellar!! Maybe you ought to be answering questions in here!

I'll assume you drafted 7th?! That gives you Fitz then Gore then Jennings....Pierre, Gates, Ryan....am I close!?

Since you drafted your rb's/wr's and waited on a QB I love the choices. Ryan has tremendous upside. Look for his TD passes to be closer to 25 this year. Great red zone receivers this year!! Hasselbeck has always been steady, forget last year ever happened. I really like the WR's. Great one-two punch and some solid contributors in Walter/Holmes. Gates and Carlson is great as well. Someone in your league dropped the ball. Carlson should have been somebodies #1 TE. SD brought in the Bears DL and Secondary coach add in a healthy Merriman.....look out!! The Jets got Rex Ryan, what's not to like about him?! Losing Pace for four games will hurt. Don't be down on them the first four weeks if they don't live up to their potential...Pace is that important! Their SP return department is awesome...run Leon run!

RB's are your only concern. If you've read through this at all you'll know I'm very high on Gore. I also have a tremendous outlook for Thomas. LJ, I like his attitude this year and Jamal keeps chugging away. The problems are Pierre isn't the healthiest guy in the world. We really don't know how Haley will use LJ (Charles fumble problems helps LJ's value) and Jamal has James Davis ready to take over the feature role. If all four stay on the field, you're fine. LJ and Lewis have serious competition to take their job, let alone carries. Thomas will be good to go with or without Bush. Gore always seems to get hurt, but plays through. All in all, I think you drafted wisely and got them at good value.

Be weary of the KC/Clev RB situation. Other than that I like your draft alot. Even without seeing the other teams in your league it's easy to see your team will be near the top all season barring injury.

Great job!! :first:

Absolutely! I would stay away from Marshall until we find out what is going on. If you're going to get rid of Fitz, that is a deal to jump on if this was last year. We have no clue how Marshall would be used in McDaniels offense and most likely he'll end up in a Jets uniform anyway. I'm very high on Roddy White, but not that high!

Marshall is a guy to avoid at all costs as of right now. Hopefully I won't be put in a position where he is the best available. I would hate to have to draft him. He's on pace to get a two/three game suspension for "conduct detrimental to the team" and then who knows what will happen.

I was just thinking the same thing about Marshall. He's on his way to getting Keyshawned if he keeps this up. The Broncos are a mess.

Reposting from earlier--think this landed on the end of a page:

Just finished my local league draft.

Since you traded away picks you have to try and hit the magic number with your picks and it will change how you draft. What is the magic number you may ask? The average weekly score for your league. In a normal draft you draft the best available until you fill your starters and/or feel comfortable with your main point getters.

In your situation I would draft differetly. Let's assume your leagus score about 85 ppg. You have Brees who will get you roughly 20 ppg and LT will prolly get you around 13. So you have 33 points in the bag already. You have to figure out a way to get 52 points among the rest of your starters, that means taking a guy like Larry Johnson is out for now. His status in the offense is unknown, having few picks does not allow you to risk a pick on him early. We can assume any kicker you get is going to add 6 ppg, so we're already down to 46 points. Welker or Housh is a great addition with your #2 pick. Welker is a ppr stud and Housh will get you great ppr and yards. Again, go with the proven here, Welker is proven in that offense. Great target there and he could/should get you 8-10 ppg, I would seriously consider Jason Witten here as well. Romo's #1 target. He's capable of putting up #1 wr stats IF he finds the endzone more. Plus it would give you the #1 TE......38 points to go.

Next pick: 24. Stay away from Reggie Bush. He's great when he's healthy in ppr, but he already has swelling of the knee. I would stay away. I love Gonzalez at this pick. Even if he's the third option, that's pretty good when Manning is throwing the ball. Don't forget, he's in his third year, the breakout year for WR's. I know I said to stay away from unprovens, but Gonzo is a totally different story. Berrian is another good option. Not alot of receptions, but he'll get you just over 1000 yds this year and should add some long TD's (he also returnd punts, added bonus if your league awards points for individuals return TDs)) Let's assume this pick nets you 8 points: 30 points to go.

The key will be in rounds 5 thru 10. Don't hesitate to grab the best defense in round five. Defenses can get you 10-15 ppg. If you can nab Pitt, Eagles, Giants, Ravens....that could put you down to needing 20 points with your next four picks. This is also a prime spot to take Donald Brown IF he's there.

Now is where you break away from your "safe" picks and go for the gusto! You can do this one of two ways. You can draft one Giants wr, Steve Smith, a 49ers wr, Josh Morgan and so on, or you can pair them up. Take Steve Smith, then later grab Hakeem Nicks. The chances that one of them comes close to or over 1000 yds is pretty good. Somebody has to fill Plax' shoes.

One more thing to help you land players you want. Let's say it's round ten and you are looking to land Hakeem Nicks. Throw out there how great the Browns offense looks this year. Start "talking to your friends sitting close" but be sure others can hear and let your "intentions" be known that you are taking either Robiskie or Quinn. How about Chris Wells....once he's healthy, he'll be a beast! Not really, but force others to take guys early and/or not take your guy. If you work with guys that you're drafting with start talking about how great Joseph Addai looks and how the Colts plan to get him the ball more.

Oh, there's more. Don't be afraid to take RBBC backs. Bradshaw is gonna payoff bigtime this year for where he is drafted. In a ppr league, he'll be just as good as a guy like Jamal Lewis, Ray Rice and some others. You can also pair up Fred Taylor and Sammy Morris. They seem to be invisible in most drafts.

You'll need some smoke and mirrors, but you can pull it off.

Let me know how it shakes out. I'm always interested to see how gusy teams look with missing draft picks. It's neat to see how the draft unfolds for them.

I'm thinking of dropping J Lewis and handcuffing Gore with Coffee - what do you think? Agree RB is my weak spot. I assume Bush will get hurt again, and Mike Bell will stay Mike Bell, so PT should get the carries... Will need good seasons from both PT and Gore.

Thanks for comments - great insight as usual.

Whaddaya think?

Well, you definitly drafted Schaub early, but if you are going to draft one QB early, he's the one! AJ is 6'2 with a thirty foot wingspand and hands the size of castnets! Walter is 6'3 and sure handed, Daniels is 6'3 and Slaton is lightning in a bottle. His offensive line is getting better at learning the "Denver zone blocking scheme". With ten QB's gone, it was a good choice.

I disagree on you not liking the Dallas Clark pick. I think he will end up second in yards and catches to Witten and may have more TD's. Love Clark this year. I'd much rather have Clark over the likes of Miller or Celek.

Moss and Jackson are solid. I like the Steve Smith pick as well. He should be a reliable target this year. I'm not a Gin fan, I'd rather have Bess from Miami.

Running backs is where I say uh oh! I do not like Kevin's situation. Too many new faces. It worked for Matt Ryan and co. last year, but I don't see it happening in Detroit. Jackson can't stay healthy. Then your bench....yikes. I don't see Choice as having any value this year. Graham was horrible last year. Hopefully he'll get goalline duties and become a TD vulture. I'm am optimistic about Freddy though. I think he'll be used wisely and put together a decent year. I would try and get Sammy Morris to go with him though.

I would definitly try and get some RB help. Your team is okay, but Schaub/Moss/DeSean are your staples. IF SJax can stay healthy he's great, but he can't stay healthy. Plus they have no offense, teams will key on him more than ever. Smith could have a nice year. I'm not big on him, but I can see him getting 1200 on the year?!

I would work some magic for better rb back-ups. That is the main concern. Not big on Flacco, with Schaubs injury history it may be a good idea to find a better option than Flacco, but Flacco has upside, so he could surprize this year!

Not a bad job, just need a little more depth. I'm not big on depth, but I like to have a little.

I'm shocked that Fitz fell to tenth! Most drafts he's going anywhere from 4-8. Getting him at #10 was super. The reason I figured 7th was because of Jennings. Once Fitz goes, AJ is usually soon after followed by Moss. Calvin, Steve, Wayne...Jennings. I didn't think picking 8th or later would let Jennings slide to you.

I wouldn't flatout drop Lewis for Coffee. I do like the idea of handcuffing Gore with Coffee, but Gore is tough. He does miss games, but he's 26 going into his prime. I think he'll put it all together for the next few years. Lewis still has 1000 yard potential if the rest of the offense can do their job. Clev has a very good OLine. My fear for Lewis is Davis gets a few touches and tears it up. A "go young" theme could be in full effect if that happens. Robiskie, Massoquoi, Quinn, Davis, Joe Thomas.....Davis may end the year as the feature just to the Browns can see what they got. However, if Lewis is doing great and the Browns are winning they'll most likely stick with him.

Holdout as long as you can. If it becomes a RBBC in Clev, then it would be a good idea to grab Coffee.

Thanks for the feedback! We have similar feelings here about the lack of upside on my bench RBs. It's not that I don't like Clark--I love him, actually, which is why I took him--but it feels like a mistake to have taken a QB and TE in my first 6 picks. I missed Ray Rice by one pick when I grabbed DeSean--the next guy took him and I really was expecting him to come back around since I was right at the turn. I think Rice really would have helped my team and I'm kicking myself for taking DeSean over him, even if DeSean was the last guy left in that tier of receivers I loved. The same guy also beat me by one pick on James Davis late. As far as better bench RBs, Glen Coffee, Kevin Jones, Chris Brown, and Bernard Scott are all still available as FAs. What do you think about ditching Crayton for Coffee or Scott, given how well both of them have shown in training camp and the preseason thus far?

Hey Cuse...just looking for some draft advice....I have the 3rd pick in my 2 start QB keeper league and was wondering what position you think I should start out with...this is my team thus far:

HB - Chris Johnson

HB - Michael Turner

WR - Andre Johnson

we start: 2 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 W/R, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF

the scoring is as follows:

QB - 1 pt/30 yds 6pts/TD -2pts/INT

HB - 1 pt/10 yds 6pts/TD -2pts/FUM 1pt/rec. 1pt/15 yds rec.

WR - 1 pt/15 yds 6pts/TD -2pts/FUM

top available players by position:

QB

Warner

Schaub

Hasselbeck

Ryan

Palmer

Roethlisberger

Eli

Cassel

Favre

HB

Portis

Jacobs

Gore

Ronnie Brown

WR

Moss

Welker

Calvin Johnson

Boldin

I was thinking of drafting Moss or Calvin Johnson so I could have another superunit to go with my RB's....Jacobs looks very tempting as well since we do have a flex position....however, i dont want to go into the season with QBs like kyle orton and mark sanchez as my starters since it is a 2 qb start league...what's your take? thanks in advance

I don't think you can pass up Calvin in a keeper league. Why and how he is there is a mystery! After that you have to go QB. If you start two, they will get drafted heavily very quick. If you wait even a round later you will end up with someone like Leftwich or Pennington as your second QB. I'd grab the young guy with the most potential. Sanchez is in a very good spot with the Jets and Stafford will have Calvin for a long time. Should both be servicable QB's for years. Hopefully the Jets hire an innovative OC to get the most out of Sanchez.

I'd go Calvin and then look for QB's.

I'm really liking Deon Butler. I'm not sold on Mora's coaching style being wide receiver freindly, but Hasselbeck is a solid QB and finds open guys. Butler looks to be in the perfect situaution. While he may not payoff this year he could be solid in years to come. You already have solid young backs in Bradshaw, Brown and Washington. Scott is a wildcard, but could turn out to be better than all of them?! I wouldn't take Hillis. He's a nice story and very good back, but his chances are going to be few and far between. Moreno is the future and Torain showed that he can definitly play at this level. Every year we hear how they are going to get Betts more involved and every year we don't see it. Faulk is a safe bet to get a few catches and hopefully score a TD if you had to play him.

I thought Floyd had a chance to shine and he let it slip away. Davis is looking much better than him now. Cribbs is a return specialists.

I picked up Deon Butler at round 19.04. So that's two guys that i really like, Hillis and Butler. I'm convinced that Butler will make an impact as a WR4 this year. Based on starting with round 18, I'm liking my supplemental draft a lot. One more position pick before my defense and my kicker. Thanks for the advice.
