NFL.com settings?

Recommended Posts

So, I lost in a league on NFL.com this week where a team left an IDP spot open through Sunday's games. Today, he was able to drop a player from his bench who played on Sunday (he didn't play him, but saw what he did) and add an IDP from MNF. He was able to insert this added IDP into his lineup and those points made the difference in his winning and my losing.

I've never, in any league format, seen where a player, once played, was able to be dropped for another player and that transaction not go towards the NEXT week.

Is this a typical NFL.com setting or did the commish somehow mess that up?

Either way, I doubt I return to this league next year. I just want to be sure to not play in any NFL.com league or not.

Sounds like a winning move to me.

Picking up a Monday night player is no big deal. But dropping a player that already played is not something I would be in favor of. If that player that was dropped was on a bye then different story no harm done. A player that played on Thursday or Sunday should not be available to drop in the same week.

Tough loss !

If I understand correctly the dropped player was on his bench and played no role in the outcome of the week correct? I see no issues with dropping a player on your bench (whether he's played or not) and picking up someone who has not yet played this week. Pretty sure it would be doable in my Yahoo league as well.

I could be wrong but I dont think in yahoo or espn you can drop players on Monday that played on Sunday even if they were not in your starting lineup. I will definitely try it next week. Very curious.

Definitely can in Yahoo. In fact, I dropped Rudolph (on my bench) last evening and picked up Hogan before the Monday Night game.

It's not possible to drop a player who was in your lineup after they've played, but bench guys are fair game.

Yeah. Yahoo and NFL.com you can. ESPN doesn't allow it though...just depends on the host site.

Yeah, once a game starts all players "should" lock and can't be moved until after the week is over (last game is complete). However, you might want to check, because the exception is sneaky...bye weeks. If the player he dropped was on bye, then he hasn't officially played this week, and can be dropped anytime during the week. Check for certain what his drop was. If not on bye, then it's really not fair. At that rate you could conceivably drop any low scoring player in your lineup right before the monday game and get a "do-over" every monday. that would be crap.

You can't drop guys that have played and were in your starting lineup jg, at least in Yahoo leagues. Only guys that were on the bench.

I agree that dropping a guy in the starting lineup who has already played would be sketchy.

I do it frequently, using my last bench spot (can't drop players that were in lineup)

1) If Chiefs and Rams play Thursday I add the backup RBs (Ware/Brown) or other sleeper players and hope for some luck.

2) If no luck, I drop them and pick up a player in a Sunday early game.

3) Nothing there, pick up someone playing Sunday afternoon

4) Still no, Sunday evening game it is

5) Nothing yet, we still have MNF!

This is how it works in yahoo, and while I may not do all of the above moves I usually do make a couple of them depending on the teams playing and availability of backups.

In my CBS league I can't make any moves like that.

I haven't played in a yahoo league in a long time. And the NFL league I'm in has a crazy 1 waiver move per week, and it's a free-for-all at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday. So definitely not familiar with it.

Weird, but a good strategy working within the rules, pretty savvy in fact. Intentionally (or unintentionally) leaving a spot in your starting lineup is pretty ballsy though. in this case i would have been all-in on blocking it if I could. Sucks to lose after the fact. Could definitely make playing waivers a week ahead easier. I like doing that. Often on Sunday morning I'll drop someone right before the games start to take a flyer on someone who is on bye that week. Was able to get Winston the week before he began starting because I picked him up right before the early sunday games started.

In theory, using your method, you could leave a blank roster spot on the bench and cycle thru all the games, then still drop your monday night person right before the game and pick up somebody who is on bye even thru the Monday night game, right?

Yes, the players on a BYE remain available. I have used that before, last time for grabbing a DST that had a BYE but good matchup the coming week.

yeah, i could definitely see an astute owner finding a way to get ahead of their opponents using this.

If the players you're dropping lock and aren't available to other teams that's called churning the wire and chances are good the rest of your league hates you for it.

If they don't lock then it's all good.

Perhaps the settings are different on different Yahoo leagues, but I've never been in a league on Yahoo (or ESPN) where players, once their game starts, have been available to drop until the following week's waiver period - regardless if they were in a starting lineup or on a bench. Once their game starts, be it a 9:30am London kickoff, 1pm, 4pm, whatever - they are locked.

This is as it should be. To allow otherwise is double dipping and creates scenarios where managers can wait and see what happens in the early games and then drop injured players and the like for later players. Not a good scenario at all and ripe with manipulation.

I totally agree with this, I've never seen it. once the player's game starts he should lock, regardless of whether he's in your lineup, bench, a FA or on waivers. No movement again until after waivers runs.
