    2024 NFL Draft Contest

haha well done either way. you did better than I would have done.

Dave Gettleman sooooo effed the G-Men..

honestly, I'm not a Manning fan. but hes won 2 superbowls. Most QBs dont even get one superbowl appearance let alone win the thing. if it happens once I suppose it could be a fluke if the player catches lightning in a bottle. but he won it twice. not a fluke. trust me, I'm not a Giants fan, but I'll give cudos where they are deserved. Manning was a very good QB.

    NFL Draft 2024 - Round 1 Discussion

well, it was a fairly deep draft at WR. and I would argue the O line needed help too. and if my memory is correct some of the starters were on the wrong side of the age 30. so even if it wasnt on fire, it probably will be soon enough. and in a deep draft, they can come back and get another WR in round 2 or 3. With Harbaugh just returning to the NFL from college, he likely has the inside scoop on a few players that are not first round picks.

    NFL Draft 2024 - Round 1 Discussion

from what I've seen he was starting to look like a legit player at the position in the 2nd half of last year. while the team CAN play 2 TE's his playing time is going to drop. You dont usually draft a TE in round one and then sit him on the bench. hes getting a decent amount of playing time. on the other hand if I was a TE needy team I'd be picking up the phone to see if Mayer is available.

I really like how fast he can change direction.

its a good way to piss off all the QBs on the roster. everyone wants to start. thats the way these things go.

    Dynasty?

yeah, that was a bit of a surprise pick for me. it was looking like Mayer was going to become a very good TE. I guess maybe they run a lot more 2 TE sets but not many teams have done this successfully. most successful one I can think of in recent memory was the Pats with Gronk and Hernandez before Hernandez went to jail. barring that, I think it means someone is likely to get moved.

yes, but history has shown that it is a rare case where you can run with 2 QB and win. i suspect it is because a QB needs to play in order to stay sharp. so taking equal reps means both QB's under perform. if these guys play both QB's equally by design and win with it you can expect a full apology from me at seasons end, but I honestly dont think it will come to that.

    NFL Draft 2024 - Round 1 Discussion

we dont know what goes on behind the scenes. thats why everyone watches the draft because teams do things we dont expect. keep in mind all these GM's have connections at the college level. They have opinions they trust and others they dont and some have the inside scoop on certain prospects that few (if anyone else) have. This is why some players rise and fall on the draft board unexpectedly. clearly this GM loves the player. otherwise he wouldnt have taken him. in a couple of years we will all find out if he was right. in the interim, its Cousins show. Not much else to say about that.

    NFL Draft 2024 - Round 1 Discussion

yeah but bouncing back from a major injury at the age of 35 is different than it is at 24. dont get me wrong, I think the team could have made a better pick here. its even possible they signed cousins not thinking they'd be able to get a QB at the draft table. either way, getting a young QB when your starter is 35+ in terms of age is probably not a bad thing in the long run. short run.... not so good. but if they think they cant win a superbowl with cousins maybe this is the succession plan already in place.

    Dynasty?

true. but as none were drafted in round 1 I could likely only see possibly 1 (maybe 2) going in round 1 if they land in really good spots where there is a clear path to a starting role. as no RB's have been taken yet, its too early to predict this. but you are probably right. 1 RB likely will go in round 1 of your dynasty. Maybe even 2

agreed. and he likely plays all of this year and probably all of next. How long he holds the job depends on how he plays. you know the drill.

    Minnesota Vikings

well, one thing is for sure, I dont know that Darnold has ever had this kind of talent at WR. if he cant make it here, he should never get another chance (in my opinion) but JJ has a lot of the traits you would want in a QB to run this offense. I personally think it is only a matter of time til he unseats Darnold. the only question I have is whether it is week 1 or maybe mid season (presumably after the bye)

wow, thats a cool story. maybe we should write a movie about this and tell a story. we could call the movie Draft day and talk about all the trials and tribulations of a GM on draft day. it would be great!

    NFL Draft 2024 - Round 1 Discussion

fair point. his playoff record leaves a lot to be desired. but in the regular season hes been money. either way I never thought he was the long term solution, and given the draft pick here, maybe the team doesnt either. given his age and the major injury hes coming back from.....I figured hed be a 1 or 2 year band aid solution. when the wheels fall off for a QB the fall is fast. he might have 3 or 4 years left, but he also might only have 1. its even possible hes finished already and none of us know it. its tough to say but the injury complicates things a lot more as well.
