Voltaire 5,315 Posted September 22, 2006 I wonder if that's why Poland joined. Eastern Euopeans love democracy, are grateful to the US for our help in ending the cold war and are still scared of Russia. America can do no wrong there and is still very popular even with the Bushtard in office. These countries want really close ties to the US. Anyways, if you've been wondering what we "won" with all that money we spent in the cold war ... the liberation and gratitiude of Eastern Europe is at the top of my list. D'ohmer Simpson 0 Posted September 22, 2006 Bush is worse than I thought Come on, he can't be that bad. I mean just recently someone said that Bush got a lot of votes because he's like a regular joe. Just like anyone of us. So if you're damning him you're damning all of us!!
Sho Nuff 720 Posted September 22, 2006 I actually like that we threatened them at that point.
davebg 0 Posted September 22, 2006 I actually like that we threatened them at that point. Agreed. I really don't see what's so wrong or suprising about this. The Pakistani intelligence community pretty much put the Taliban in power. After 9/11 we went to them and said we're going to get rid of the Taliban in Afghanistan...you can continue to support the Taliban, in which case we will go after you next or you can help us. davebg 0 Posted September 22, 2006 thats fine with me, but Bush dressed it up like Pakistan was this great ally and friend. turns out, they chose life over death. Yeah... ...I mean why would we try to help Musharraf help us against the Taliban by letting him save some face among his people? We already knew that there was going to be a significant segment of his people who were going to oppose going after the Taliban b/c they were just as backwards and intolerant. I would say that it made perfect sense to present Pakistan as an ally, as opposed to as an emeny whose hand was being forced. Not only did it make Musharraf's job a little easier than if we had gone the alternate route, but it rewarded Pakistan for helping us out (by putting them on a more level playing field with their enemy...and our ally...India.) Bush said he first heard of the alleged threat "in the newspaper today." CNN.COM 1. He heard it in the newspaper? 2. I call Bullshiit.
