Brianna Wu: If I were in charge of the trans movement...
jerryskids replied to jerryskids's topic in The Geek Club
Not that I'm aware of. If I implied that, it was a mistake. I'll also add that in the case of Brianna, I've only known of her as Brianna, not when she was Brian or whatever her original name was. I first heard of her when she did a rebuttal to J.K. Rowling's interview series on The Free Press regarding trans people (also published there). I didn't agree with many of her points, but she presented them intelligently. -

I don't care and am not talking about specific people who will never be satisfied, nor am I claiming that the rest of her statement covers EVERY main hot button issue regarding trans. My point was that you cherry picked their last statement about what the conversation can change to while leaving out the fact that the very person who made the statement has just finished explaining a list of things that they feel would help get us to that point. -
Parents call out unfairness as trans pitcher throws shutout in Minnesota softball state quarterfinals

She’s saying they’re men, that being trans is not a real thing. This was the other example I shared earlier. She called being trans a “gimmick.” https://x.com/Riley_Gaines_/status/1861564050024329515 @jerryskids tried arguing that since the post she was replying to was deleted, that it lacked the full context. But no context is needed to acknowledge that calling trans a gimmick means she’s against transgender people. Although to your question Jerry, reading the comments, it’s pretty clear the original post was about Walmart supposedly no longer selling chest binders (so not about sports). I’m guessing the post got deleted after many commenters pointed out that they were in fact still selling them. Riley makes lots of posts about trans folks but not about sports. For example she also retweets just about every story she sees of a trans person committing a crime. -

Not really. You tried a "gotcha" with the focking question because yes, the answer is yes, it makes you ghey. But sexual preference is different than all the gender identity stuff, so the question really has nothing to do with what he chooses to call this person. I personally feel that trans is people playing make believe. Yet if I interact with someone I am going to call them she/her/miss etc or he/him/sir etc based on what I think they look like. I'm not the least bit concerned with not calling them their preferred pronouns, my point is I'm going to call them something and I may get it wrong compared to their biological sex. Doesn't make me ghey. I would also call this person a she if I just had a passing interaction. My reasoning is not as nuanced as Jerrys but I think it's fairly easy to understand unless someone needs to be purposely insensitive just for the sake of it. -

What question are you taking about? When you said how was sports not inclusive before, I answered that Biles’ opinion seems to be that they should add a trans category. -

Wow! That's next gen incompetence right there. Like I said before, you need stop because no one has ever been more wrong on any topic, ever. #1 "Sports" and "Women's Sports"? There's a women's and men's division already, you can't make them more inclusive unless you allow men to play in women's sports and women to play in men's. #2 Gaines said suggested to have a trans category. Biles apparently agrees with her. I don't think it's a stupid idea, I just don't think it'll work because of... a) biological women will not want to compete against biological men and 2) there wouldn't be enough representation in each sport. If I grant you that I am an idiot, then what does make you... AS: 1) Gaines and Biles agree that men shouldn't be allowed in sports. 2) Gaines and Biles agree that a possible solution would be to make them their own category. 3) Gaines was an actual victim (men playing in women's sports were NOT). 4) Other biological women were and are, actual victims, not the men playing in women's sports). So, Biles and Gaines agree.. Biles calls out Gaines and acts like a douche, and you agree with her. So, what's that make you and Biles? -

She said make “SPORTS” inclusive, not “WOMEN’S sports.” Her suggestion is to create a trans category. It’s a stupid idea, but she’s not saying to allow biological males in women’s sports. Holy fock you’re dumb. -

No, you are inferring things into her statement that she didn’t actually say. So, you’re making things up per usual. Edit: Funny that you draw that conclusion but will still refuse to admit that Gaines is against trans people as a whole and not just in sports. -

All liberals a freaking sick. A school board meeting in California featured emotional debate over transgender athletes being allowed to share locker rooms with high-school girls. One girl who cried during a speech was told to "wrap it up" by the board president. During the Lucia Mar Unified School District (LMUSD) board meeting on Wednesday, a high-school junior girls' track athlete at Arroyo Grande High School named Celeste Diest took the podium to recount her experience of having to change in front of a biologically male trans athlete before practice, while that athlete allegedly watched her undress. "I went into the women's locker room to change for track practice where I saw, at the end of my row, a biological male watching not only myself, but the other young women undress. This experience was beyond traumatizing," Diest said, as she began to choke up and cry. "Adults like yourself make me and my peers feel like our own comfort was invalid, even though our privacy was and still is completely violated." Diest then fought through her tears to argue that the trans athlete's XY chromosomes define the person as a male, adding, "That is basic biology." But Diest was then interrupted by LMUSD board president Colleen Martin. "Okay, please wrap it up," Martin said, gesturing to Diest to finish her point. The teen then sniffled and continued speaking. "I just want to ask ‘what about us?’ We can not sit around and allow our rights to be given up to cater to an individual that is a man, who watches women undress and is stripping away female opportunity that once was fought for us. Sadly we have to try and regain our rights back. I hope you put effort into the restoration of our school safety." Diest then walked away from the podium to a roaring applause from the audience before Martin tried to silence the cheers Martin even began slamming her gavel down to try and temper the growing applause, but the cheers only got louder after that. "No!" Martin yelled when the cheers got louder. Then, Martin just sat there silently as the applause continued for several more seconds, before it finally tempered, and the next speaker gave another speech opposing trans inclusion. Prior to Diest's speech, one of the other speakers, a woman named Shannon Kessler, who was scheduled to go after the teen, asked Martin whether she could give her speaking time to Diest. But Martin denied that request. https://www.foxnews.com/sports/california-girl-cries-recounting-trans-athlete-experience-school-board-president-says-wrap-up

Tim is doing exactly what @TBayXXXVIIaccused him of in the trans softball thread. We were talking about warning shots, Tim lost yet another discussion, so now he's trying to move the goalposts to journalists and doctors. I'd ask him if this means he concedes he has nothing on the murderous shooting sprees at the aid stations, but he wouldn't respond. 200 journalists! Or, maybe 3? And maybe 1 of them wasn't working directly with Hamas. -
Brianna Wu: If I were in charge of the trans movement...
jerryskids replied to jerryskids's topic in The Geek Club
Well, she's old school trans, from before the social contagion. Also, it's pretty clear from her tweet, and other things I've heard her say, that she is very concerned that people like her -- people with gender dysphoria who have medically transitioned -- are at risk of losing access to the medicines they require because of the things mentioned in the tweet: social contagion, transing the kids, men in women's sports and safe spaces. -

Though I disagree with your view here it makes me think there may be room for compromise. But I’m not sure. So I would like you to be specific about the only aspect of this that truly matters: what kind of legislation that in any way touches on or restricts trans would you support? What kind of legislation would you oppose? -

Speaking of that sentence, for the people that claim Riley Gaines “just wants men out of women’s sports,” here is Wu’s opinion of Ms Gaines: https://x.com/BriannaWu/status/1817169816626553245 I appreciate the increasing frequency of these comments from Riley because it gives away her game. Yes, it’s reasonable to have a public policy discussion about trans people and women’s sports. But her political project doesn’t stop there. She’s disgusted by LGBT people and wants to eliminate them from public life. This is, of course, anti-American and anti-democratic. -

A straw man argument is a logical fallacy where someone misrepresents an opponent's argument to make it easier to attack or refute. Instead of addressing the actual argument, the person creates a distorted version and argues against that instead. You think she’s just “critical” of trans, lol. She thinks they shouldn’t exist.
