So, to the case at hand, it seems we have dueling ass holes. On one side, we have a plaintiff who sought this guy out to create this lawsuit. If she wanted a blue and pink cake, she could have asked for that without pointing out the celebration of gender transition. On the other side, we have the defendant, who won't make a blue and pink cake. There does not seem to be any complex art to such a cake. As opposed to @weepawsand his cult, I like the Catholic position on trans: https://www.catholic.com/qa/the-churchs-position-on-transgenderism-0 "Love the sinner, hate the sin" is a pretty good model for such situations. This seems like "uncharitable behavior" on the part of the behavior, and as such I disapprove of the baker's position. The question, of course, is not what I think, but should HE be able to do it. That's a little thornier. It seems the plaintiff IMO planned out a good trap for this guy. At the end of the day, and I know conservatives here won't like what I'm about to say: I think time will show the baker to be on the wrong side of history here. I say this because there are other positions, like medical (hormonal and surgical) transitioning, where I am extremely confident that my opposition will be on the right side of history. -

The thread is filled with the usual slurs and jokes towards trans people, denial of bigotry against them, false charges of pedophilia, and denunciations of San Francisco and other “liberal” cities. Almost none of it has to do with the issue at hand. So let’s get back to that issue: transgender people, especially teenagers, are made to feel unwelcome in many parts of this country. They are beaten up, abused, told they are mentally ill, told they are perverts, laughed at, spat upon, made outcasts (sometimes from their own family) etc. This is no different from how homosexuals who dared to openly reveal themselves were treated 50 years ago. At that time San Francisco was one of the few places in the entire country where it was generally safe to be openly gay. That didn’t come overnight. Brave leaders like Harvey Milk had to struggle against the authorities, particularly the San Francisco police force, to bring that about. But eventually he succeeded and San Francisco became a haven for gays. Now they have chosen to extend that haven to trans people. And over again I say good for them. It shouldn’t be necessary, but that’s where we are. -

I am in the same situation. It is stunning to see how many trans kids and weirdos have been manufactured in the last several years. I believe middle school is even worse. Bring back bullying and scared straight. -
He will be the youngest kid in Junior High next year. Went to pick him up yesterday and one of the gay kids in his class was crying leaving. Why are there so many gay/trans kids at the age of 10 and 11? I blame the school and the parents.

Or maybe the dude wasn't welcome in the ladies room? So tell me, how the fock is this unique? Kids have been getting picked on, beaten up, teased, since the beginning of time. They are short, fat, too tall and awkward, not popular, have skin problems, race differences, sex differences, personality differences, etc etc etc....Everyone who is even just a little bit different than the popular crowd has been picked on, beaten, and even killed, forever since the beginning. Why is trans now so unique to you? It must be because you identify with it. Otherwise, this would not trigger you so much. Why do you single them out over the normals in life who went through this? -

Maybe Tim is intimately familiar with rural Oklahomans and their attitudes and practices vis a vis trans folks. Maybe he has experienced the violence first hand. I don't think you can discount his perspective absent exploring the basis for it. Maybe he was in an all trans cast of the musical Oklahoma actually touring Oklahoma and he recieved cruel reviews, poor service at restaurants, and was pushed around by ruffians at the mall while trying to find a pair of pumps which would fit, you don't know so maybe hold your judgment until you do Mister man. -

The money line: "We’ve had decades of research with overwhelmingly positive results,..." That's straight out of Rainbow Mob Propaganda 101. It's categorically false, of course, because every country except the US are walking back all of the trans nonsense that was pushed previously. Not only have we NOT had "decades of positive research" and the science is FAR from settled on this, but also it's coming out that it actually DOES NOT help as trans people are still killing themselves at the same rates pre and post change. -

Detransitioning is horrid for people, have you read about it? The constant pain for individuals who've had a vagina created and daily stretching that is needed or it will close? I mean, going back to having a from that wouldn't cause any kind of depression? I think 99% is a wee bit high, but okay, I'll believe you. I guess I stand corrected in that transsexual is an outdated term and is no longer used; historically it was used to refer to someone who took steps necessary to change their sex (medications, surgeries). Transgender individuals do this, but since they don't base it on physical traits, they over look the "sex" part of it? At least that's what I am reading. All of this is fine with me, and truly doesn't bother me, live your life how you want. If you know anyone in the trans community, they most certainly DO go for the drugs as treatment as one of the first things. I know a transmale personally. Originally a lesbian, married another woman, and then slowly transitioned to female, and when she brought this up to her doctor, they didn't recommend therapy, they recommended testosterone. Please don't tell me that I am not accepting because I am. I am just not accepting of these things being done on children. -

I'm defining "trans" as believing you are the opposite sex of your body. "Dysphoria" defines the amount of pain it causes. Perhaps "mental illness" is not the right phrase. "mental issue"? Your brain is not functioning properly. Children have not fully developed. This has been discussed at length here before you returned. -

Well... I agree that by definition, trans is a "mental illness" -- if you are in one body but your brain thinks it is in another, that's not working correctly. That being said, I do not rule out that for more severe (adult) cases of gender dysphoria, medical transitioning may help the person. Children are different and have not fully developed.
