Video Game Coffee Talk

I love zombie movies and love dawn of the dead. So the new Zombie game where you're trapped in a mall looks fun.

All the chicks have great boobs. :pointstosky:

Their faces look a little funny, but who cares.

Have you seen the Madden 07 commercial with Culpepper and Chad Johnson playing? It looks farging sweet.

I don't place much stock in the 'gameplay' they show that's all replays. That's not how it looks while you're actually running a play.

But the little bit they show in the Culpepper/Johnson commercial looks fantastic.

Control the running game like never before with Madden NFL 07. For the first time ever, step up as the lead blocker to create a hole, then take control of the tailback and smash through, overpower, or slash away from would-be tacklers as you fight for every yard. Innovative rushing controls give you a game-breaking ground attack featuring all-new jukes, cutbacks, and the distinct running styles of your favorite backs. Between the tackles or in the open field, run to daylight with Madden NFL 07.

• Lead Block Through the Lanes—For the first time ever, control the lead blocker on running plays. Throw the perfect block to create a running lane, then take control of the tailback and rip off the big gain.

• NFL Superstar: Hall of Fame Mode—Play your way to the Pro Football Hall of Fame by taking complete control of any position on the field. Your actions on and off the field determine your impact on the game.

• Run Like the Players Run—Use the all-new Highlight Stick to evade defenders with new jukes, cutbacks, and power moves. Smaller backs escape and break tackles, while bigger runners bowl over defenders in the open field.

• New Franchise Mode Additions—Scout collegiate prospects with the all-new NFL Draft Scouting System and during the College All-Star Game, or watch players impact their teams with the new Franchise Player Roles feature.

• Team-Specific Defensive Playbooks—For the first time, use actual plays from your favorite team's defensive playbook to shut downthe running game, pressure the quarterback, or force key turnovers.

I'm still waiting for a good multi-player sports game where an actual human controls each position player. That would rock. I think.

Us Geeks could have some serious Madden games.

Heh, yeah it would be fun and more importantly funny as fock.

Or go for any sport. Hockey like this would be greta too! Or car racing.

I think they have a nascar game like this for the pc, but I could be wrong. I have been wrong before but not too often. :headbanger:

IGN has some new Call Of Duty 3 (X360) gameplay footage up.

It looks very good. Much more realistic environments than COD2.

Release date is Nov. 17th.

I had Nascar 2004 for the PC.

That would be focking AWESOME! Having a geek nascar race with head sets. :dunno:

it was pretty complicated to get your car running it's best, but it was so much fun racing with like 15 other people.

Just got Saints Row (X360) today.

It's a Grand Theft Auto type of game. I've never played GTA.

Riding shotgun with a hippie drug dealer in his van, gangstas all chasing us and shooting. I missed several shots and the hippie says, "Could you do me a favor and kill some people please?"

Also, note to self: Do not to throw a Molotov cocktail when there's a wall three feet in front of you. You will catch on fire and dance around shrieking. It's hilarious, but unproductive.

How good is this?

I have 3 games now: Ghost Recon (still play it multiplayer sometimes), NCAA (play it constantly), and Dead Rising (haven't really started it yet, but enjoy it).

I just bought a new plasma, and I keep reading I'm not supposed to play video games on it for the first 100 hours. I might chance it anyway.

It's quite fun.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a must-have game, but it's definitely worth the $60.

It's free-roaming mayhem is kind of similar to Dead Rising, but with a heavy emphasis on guns and much better gun aiming. Also lots of car driving with attendant wanton destruction.

Lego Star Wars II tomorrow!!

Also we bought Tekken 5 for the PS2 over the weekend as a time killer for my friends bachelor party weekend. Those are the best fighting games ever.

Brinett - Have you played Tekken 3 and DOA4? How do they compare?

Also, when I was getting Tekken 5, I heard that developers are pulling away from the PS3 because of the dev kit costs. I also heard that the PS3 will MISS the holiday season launch! What a HUGE blunder that would be if true.

I was considering getting a XBox 360 but I really want t good fighting game. I may just get a used PS2 if the 360 doesn't have something comparable to T5/T3. But Gears of War looks almost too good to pass up.

I've played DOA4, but not Tekken.

I'm not too into fighting games. I just like the "flying panties of death" in DOA4.

Going to go get NHL 07 tomorrow.

Gears of War and Rainbow Six Vegas, both to be released in November, both look like must-have titles.

NHL2K7 is most excellent. I haven't put it down since I got it last week.

R6Vegas looks incredible...and the best news I heard about the series is that the maps are more like the original game's maps - emphasis on close quarters instead of open spaces like the newer R6s. Nothing used to beat multiplayer on the original killhouse map. :pointstosky:

Yeah, open maps in multiplayer turn into just a snipefest.

Camp and snipe. Camp and snipe. If you move, you die.

This is a big problem with many of the MP maps in Call Of Duty 2.

Plus COD2 made rifles a sure "one shot, one kill" while you have to hit someone with about 6 SMG rounds to kill them. It totally unbalances the game.

EA's NHL 07 (X360) is the shiznit.

You shoot, check, and deek with the right analog stick instead of buttons. This is taking some getting used to, but feels great when you get it right. Once the moves are firmly encoded in muscle memory it's gonna be great.

I don't really watch hockey, but it works well as a video game.

Also haven't figured out where all the guns are hidden yet. I'll keep you posted.

Mark your calendars:

On Nov. 7, both "Rainbow Six Vegas" and "Call Of Duty 3" will be released for PS2 and X360.

It will be a bloody, bloody, bloody day. :o

COD3 (all platforms except PC) is sure looking like the shiznit.

It'll have a new online game mode called "War" that sounds a little bit like Battlefield II's "Conquest" mode.

Also there will be vehicle use in online mode. That adds a big fun factor to BFII.

Screenshots and movies look spectacular.

Anyone getting Splinter Cell Double Agent on Thursday?

I tried the multiplayer demo. Failed to actually get into a session. Not super impressed, but I didn't give it much of a try and these things usually get ironed out quickly.

I recently hooked up my PS2 on-line!!!! :dunno:

I used to consider myself pretty good at Madden football. Most of my friends refused to play me because I always beat them. So I couldn't wait to play on-line and have an unlimited number of people willing to get beat.

Well.... I've been humbled.. Most of those guys have offensive plays that seem damn near un-defendable. And defensively they can stop you almost every time. Corners and lineman are shifting everywhere... I never knew you could do most of that stuff. A couple guys could even blocked every punt attempt I made. I didn't know it was even possible to block punts... well it is.

And the game keeps up with your on-line record too..... I'm 5-21. It's frustrating to suck so bad. Heck, I'm 34 y.o. Most of those dorks I'm playing are probably only 12 or so. :(

God that was funny. I feel your pain. I am an assistant football coach (31) and all the players on the Varsity beat me just about everytime. Man I am 31 and after all the beer I have drank in my life plus these new controllers with all these buttons I just cant compete with these guys. I tried to explain to them that I grew up playing tecmo then madden when it was on super nintendo. To them super nintendo is freakin atari

I cant believe nobody has mentioned "Geometry Wars" for the 360. it's a download game. That game is so focking addicting. Best $5 you'll ever spend!

Cant wait for Fable 2 guess it'll be a while though

I happened to be at a Best Buy today and kind of accidentally bought Splinter Cell Double Agent (X360).

It is what every stealth covert agent style game ever made was trying to be.

OK, so I spent a good part of last night playing Bully. It's pretty damn good.

It's like GTA, but instead of a chain saw and an AK, your weapons are stink bombs and a sling shot...instead of escorting a drug dealer to the drop, you are escorting some CBF nerd to the one bathroom that has a lock so he can poop in peace w/out being picked on.

The game is mission based, like GTA, but not only are the missions only available during certain times of the day, but you also have to go to class (or not get caught beng truant.) There is a clock on screen and there are certain times of day when you are supposed to be in class. The classes are minigames where you can upgrade your charater. For example, chemistry class is where you learn to make things like firecrackers, stink bombs and itching powder, while art class makes you more of a lady's man and increases the amount of health you get when you kiss a girl.

As I said, you can also skip class to do a mission (or just goof around and search for collectibles.) If you do go truant (skipping class) or do anything else that might up your trouble level (think wanted level from GTA) by doing stuff like picking locks at someone's locker (to get free stuff), trespassing by being in school after it closes at 7PM, fight/pick on someone, etc, then you need to make sure that you stay out of the line of sight for one of the faculty, as they will bust you.

The beginning of the game is a little slow, but it gives you some time to get up to speed on how the game works. So far I have only been on campus, as I haven't unlocked the town yet, but it's the typical open environment like GTA, but not nearly as vast. However, there seems to be more detail, not only of the characters, but of the environments, espeically indoors. Also, interacting w/the random characters milling about is more a part of the game and they are more than the mindless drones form the GTA games.

Thus far, this game is pretty cool and I'd give it a :P

Looks like the Gears Of War (X360) release date has been advanced to Nov 7, the same day as Call Of Duty 3 and Rainbow Six: Vegas.

Here's an idea:

1. Go to your local video game store Nov. 7 at opening time.

2. Stay until closing, noting all of the people who go in.

3. Everyone else in your neighborhood is gay.

Are you typing this from your tent outside EB Games?

I bought my own EBGames. It's just quicker that way.

It even came with a teenage Goth chick who works there.

Does she browbeat customers into paying $14.95 for a "discount" card every time they try to pay and get the hell out of there in under an hour? I swear I want to punch my local EB's manager in the face every time I go in there. He's probably just doing what he was trained to do but I get sick of the constant attempts to upsell me on EVERYTHING, including that ridiculous "discount card" that used to be free.

Seriously, I don't have an aversion to consoles. I have a PS2. The only games I play on console are sports games (NCAA Football, Madden, FIFA) but for any other genre the PC cannot be matched IMO.

My local place tried to sell me that only once. Sounded like a crappy deal to me.

Actually, they're very good at this place. They seem to really know the games and are pretty cool. Especially the Goth chick.
