Looseafir 3 Posted April 29, 2006 Oh, so you only care about his concussions he suffered a long time ago. I love the intelligence in your post. Oh but you posting HIGH SCHOOL clippings of a player make you far more intelligent.
Diesel07 0 Posted April 29, 2006 Oh but you posting HIGH SCHOOL clippings of a player make you far more intelligent. You must be a selective reader. The article, stats, and alaysis were while he was playing at FSU. Oh yea, i forgot to mention... Kiper was on local radio yesterday and said that from the people he had talked with that there was only 1 noted concussion while sims was at FSU. He then said, almost directly quoted, "there is a difference between having your bell rung and a concussion." He made it sound like sims had knocked himself silly several times and maybe held out for precautionary reasons with FSU being extra careful with head injuries, but that he did not have severe enough hits to cause trauma to his brain(concussion). He also said that sims had been checked out very closely by several teams and that if there was indeed an issue with concussions you would not see this type of interest in sims. swamp dog 0 Posted April 29, 2006 there's a reason justice is falling, guys. he might be worth a chance in the second but do you want another potential character problem guy?

swamp dog 0 Posted April 29, 2006 There must be something up with Justice as mentioned in other threads. Drugs likely walt, remember that thread a couple of days ago where it leaked out that two guys failed drug tests? i wonder if justice was one of them. if we start seeing a bunch of the second-tier guys going ahead of him in the second (and i envision a run on lineman in the early-mid second) then we'll know something's up. off-topic: now that the red wings officially suck, at least we detroit fans have the lions

swamp dog 0 Posted April 29, 2006 here's an excerpt of millen and marinelli talking about the sims pick. got it off a lions board. i didn't find a link or a copyright mark on it--it's only a couple of paragraphs: LIONS PRESIDENT & CEO MATT MILLEN AND HEAD COACH ROD MARINELLI Opening statement: MM: "When we sat and spoke the other day, the one thing we said was that the guy that we were going to get was going to be a guy who was going to exemplify all of the non-talent issues. That's exactly what we picked. This is a guy, who on top of the non-talent stuff, has a lot of talent. Most importantly, he's got great speed; he's a great hitter; great range. He'll come in and he'll be able to add to what we're trying to do. I think the biggest thing here is that it's a piece. We'll put the piece in and he's got to work and make it work - and he will because he's a talented kid and it's important to him. That was important to us." RM: "Like Matt said, he's a big piece of the puzzle. It's a process. The process continues to move along like everything else you do. He fits it and he's going to bring energy and great competition to our field; the energy and tackling - tackling with authority, which I like. We're very excited. On Sims' concussion history: MM: "The first thing that that tells me: the kid hits. That's the first thing you're telling me. The second thing is, it tells me that we need to check on it which is what we did. We weren't the only one - he's been gone over with a fine-tooth comb and it was a non-issue. That was fine." On Sims' off-the-field issues: MM: "That's another thing - you check into everything. Character is big. We've said that from the beginning. That turned out to be a non-issue on a lot of levels. We were fine with that; we never had to flag him. Believe me, we did our homework on him." On how strongly they considered the two available quarterbacks (Leinart & Cutler) and whether we contacted for a potential trade: MM: "We didn't make our pick right away if you noticed. We did think about a quarterback, No. 1; No. 2, we did talk about trading with some other teams - the phone was ringing. We didn't have to check it this year. In the end, all of that stuff is moot. In the end, like when we ran our mocks the other day, that's the guy you look at and that's the type of player you look at. He was there, so you just say, 'hey, you know what, it's great, make the pick; it's the right pick for this team.'" On whether they tried to move up: MM: "I called early, but the pick went fast. I did make one phone call but it didn't make a difference."
Looseafir 3 Posted April 29, 2006 7 Picks away here is what we have. swamp dog 0 Posted April 29, 2006 i think it's going to be either cb or o-line...but...the lions don't have a true-blue middle linebacker at the moment, either. if you further rationalize it's impossible to fill every hole in the draft...maybe linebacker AGAIN isn't a bad move. it's a darkhorse pick possibility... swamp dog 0 Posted April 29, 2006 Jimmy Williams was projected top 20 along with Justice and only 5 more picks to us. on the surface it sounds like good values...but i'm leery of players without injuries dropping like that. that doesn't mean there is something wrong with them, but it's rather odd. especially williams. there clearly have been cbs rated lower than him that have come off the board. things that make you go "hmm... "
whoisjgalt 0 Posted April 29, 2006 I hope someone else takes White before they can - they have needs elsewhere.

EAwer 1 Posted April 29, 2006 any1 have scouting report on Bullocks?
Looseafir 3 Posted April 29, 2006 Well he was one of my choices because of his speed. Daniel Bullocks SS Nebraska 6-1 212 4.
pipeman 18 Posted April 29, 2006 Bullocks? With Simpson AND McNiel on the board?
Looseafir 3 Posted April 29, 2006 Much faster then those 2. 4.38 40 time.
swamp dog 0 Posted April 29, 2006 i like this pick a lot! two nice cornerstone defensive players today. here's frank coyle on bullocks: "He is an emerging free safety with the complete package to start at either safety spot very early in his career. Future playmaker and a top-50 prospect on our board but may go later. He has the physical talents to be an every down performer and possible Pro Bowl performer with some development. Teams like the Vikings, Bengals and Broncos are very interested in the second round."
Lions_or_Die 0 Posted April 29, 2006 There had to be somebody higher on the available chart than this guy.
swamp dog 0 Posted April 29, 2006 Philly traded up for Justice. So he's gone. Ko Simpson or Gabe Watson. gabe watson? are you serious? ugh...don't need any more players who need a kick in the pants to play. There had to be somebody higher on the available chart than this guy. this pick was rock solid--and fills a big need.
Looseafir 3 Posted April 29, 2006 OL or best available in the 3rd and Joe Toledo in the 5th if he falls that far.
EAwer 1 Posted April 29, 2006 OG in 3rd and at the very least we fill our 3 biggest needs
swamp dog 0 Posted April 29, 2006 more stuff on bullocks. i don't know the author of this scouting report. it's from a link posted at the lions board: "To call him another Brian Dawkins would put undue pressure on this youngster, but few safeties have the closing burst that Dawkins and Bullocks display. His run force ability could make him an ideal fit for a Cover-2 system. I feel that in time, he could ascend past his brother and rank with the league's elite at his position." very interesting that the lions have drafted 2 guys in the first two rounds that 1) work hard 2) have speed 3) hit hard 4) fit a cover-2 scheme perfectly. if anyone has any questions on whether marinelli's is having a say in the warroom, you can stop wondering
Lions_or_Die 0 Posted April 29, 2006 this pick was rock solid--and fills a big need. You are going to tell me that this guy was next on the list? We are desparate for OL and there weren't any left after Justice? Kitna and McCown won't have any more of a chance than Harrington.
