Parkers99 0 Posted June 1, 2006 This doesn't even make any sense. Allow me to translate; I speak jibberish: "How much longer until I see overpriced, underinformed magazines with Tatum Bell on the cover? I don't know who plays for whom and I have a draft in August." To answer your question Nos: books be out june so should get cheatsheet to help with so many changes tells players teams so you to be ready by draft. Sorry, I'm an arse today. New baby = no sleep. IAMWood 6 Posted June 1, 2006 good question, books are the best source of info. All the up to date sources. I am heading to the bookstore now.

Franknbeans 46 Posted June 1, 2006 I bought a magazine a couple of years ago for the first ime and quickly realized how useless their opinions were. Now I just go to the local Borders and skim through a few of them for the heck of it and it's free!

Now I just go to the local Borders and skim through a few of them for the heck of it and it's free! I agree that they aren't the most useful source of info, since the material goes out of date, but I'll still pick up a few of the better ones in July to read while on vacation on the Cape. BUCKEYES 0 Posted June 1, 2006 I still buy a couple of them as well for bathroom reading!!!
Fumbleweed 545 Posted June 1, 2006 First magazines come out in about a week. Fantasy Sports (Krause Publications) usually is the first release followed by Grogan's, Fantasy League Football, PFW, and Fanball. Others follow later in the month and then FF Index tends to be the last one.....released in early July.

ellisonb11 0 Posted June 1, 2006 I still buy a couple of them as well for bathroom reading!!! im with u pal. what is better than reading stupid "expert" opinions on football on the crapper? do you have downsyndrome? thats unnecessary g-bait.
Let Da Big Dog Eat 40 Posted June 1, 2006 I am proud to say that I have never had one in my hands. When you think about it, the info is SOOOOOOOO way out of date. Some idiot writes the stuff, someone edits it. Someone lays out the mag. Then comes printing, distribution and finally it hits the sales rack. So, info is at least a month old. Absolutely useless in the FF world.
Clash of the Titans 1 Posted June 1, 2006 actually the first one is out.......pro football weekly with a detailed write-up of each nfl team their predictions for 2006 and the best players at each respective position in the game.........also included is a small section of fantasy rankings ( very good in my opinion for may) and a basic article of how-to-play....... But, I buy 5 or 6 of them because I enjoy reading outdoors or in the car while my wife shops or whatever. Useful? Not a lot. Entertaining? You bet.
Steel City Blues 0 Posted June 2, 2006 I am proud to say that I have never had one in my hands. When you think about it, the info is SOOOOOOOO way out of date. Some idiot writes the stuff, someone edits it. Someone lays out the mag. Then comes printing, distribution and finally it hits the sales rack. So, info is at least a month old. Absolutely useless in the FF world. Much like Fumble said, I like grabbing one when I go to the park with the kids or anywhere I might be with some "down time" sitting and waiting. I really like going over the stats pages looking for trends. Now and then you see a situation where you can grab a "#2 WR" that will probably score more than the "#1" WR on a team. Find out where these gems are ranked & being drafted. If most of the mags have a player ranked in the 50 range & you project him as a #2 WR, nab him just a bit earlier than his ADP. Tremendous value is out there every year. Example: This year, I think a lot of guys on FFToday are going to be all over Wilford's jock. We are hoping & praying Matt Jones gets pimped by the mags because he is definitly a SEXY pick. He's a first rounder, rough & improving. Jimmy Smith is gone. It all adds up right? Wil..who??? is boring, no hype, not a household name, not gonna sell many mags calling Wilford a star over a 1st rounder. Pfffft. I fully expect to have Ernie boy in all of my leagues except the FFToday league where he aint no secret.

But, I buy 5 or 6 of them because I enjoy reading outdoors or in the car while my wife shops or whatever. Useful? Not a lot. Entertaining? You bet. Maybe for entertainment, have fun. I do not wish to cloud my mind with useless, conterproductive crap. I admit that my mind is a strange place. All I am saying is that mags can only hurt you come draft day as you "remember something, from someplace" and cloud your vision. Believe me when I say that on draft day it is hard enough to maintain clear thought. And, since I am Da Commish, I have to keep track of much more than anyone else. I have to keep track of what I am doing as well as everyone else. My point is, I do not wish to cloud my mind with opinions of some part time NFL beat writer who can't spell FF giving me 3 mth old info.
T-HO 1 Posted June 2, 2006 I agree with using profootball weekly's nfl preview. It is the only source that has over 40 individual stats for each team. I actually am planning on selling a prognostication kit that uses 10 different colors to "bar code" each team. This way the brain can make sense of all the information neccessary. To make it simple, I take what I consider to be the 10 top most important off and def categories, then color code each tier according to logical color selections(red, orange, and yellow are 32-28;27-24 & 23-20, respectively.) By studying the teams, I now know which teams to avoid alltogether if possible in the draft(yet I took D Davis in the 2nd round). I have been playing FF since 1995, and have tried a myriad of ways for my resin/malted hops clogged brain to make sense of the seemingly endless number of bits of information the brain has to now DISREGARD...AND remember. I scored the most points ever in a standard scoring league last year than I had since I started playing. It is way too complicated to get into, but involves neurovisional computation, statistical hierarchial graphical representation, and user constructed content based image retrieval. There are three parts:1-pre-season data mining;2-draft day organization/decision enhancement 3-a user constructed guide to track the season as it happens. I plan on making about 100 "kits" to start as a time/money saving memory encoding/retrieval tool to better organize all one needs to know to play this seemingly large waste of time, anergy, and emotions. I have spoken to the people at pro football weekly as well about using their magazine. Anyone interested can email me personally at tjhoey@yahoo.com, or find me on myspace. I go by tommythesandwich there. I am not sure about how fftoday feels about someone like me plugging my idea as a topic. I appreciate all who have helped me on this site since last october when I joined.

Wildman 0 Posted June 2, 2006 I always buy at least one...I can't help myself. Usually the one that shows the X value for each player...can't remember which Emile Kadlec/Bob Harris publication it is... I'm probably just sentimental for the good old days before the Internet had 56K modems and higher and I used to buy 4-5 mags and rank my players on paper...jeez, was that only 10 years ago???
