Thomas Jones hurt! Added to PUP list

Recommended Posts

Just heard on WSCR 670 The Score in Chicago that Thomas Jones is hurt, and you'll never believe how. No, not during drills, not even on the field. He suffered what they're calling a "strained calf" at this point...during his physical.

They reportedly have added him to the physically unable to perform list.

for sure Lovie wants to use Benson because of his pay. They know Jones' value is high and want to keep him from making that cheddar too. Porter just doesn't like Art Shell. Jones deserves to be the starter until Benson can prove something. Jones is a good back and the Bears NEED him to win. Defense can't hold up everytime. Let's get Griese in there and keep Jones as are 1st string. Let me know....

Don't make him beg. Bell should be begging, and you should kick that one act pony to the curb.

that's what happens when you skip workouts and show up out of shape.

Here is the official report from chicagobears.com. And it was the hamstring, not the calf.

http://chicagobears.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=16244

Injured Jones sits out training camp opener

By Larry Mayer

July 27, 2006

The much-anticipated training camp competition at running back will have to wait.

Veteran Thomas Jones missed the first practice Thursday after straining his hamstring during his physical earlier in the day.

Running back Thomas Jones was placed on the physically unable to perform list after straining his hamstring Thursday morning.

Jones, who skipped the voluntary portion of the Bears offseason program, will open camp on the physically unable to perform list.

Jones is eligible to be removed from the list at any time during camp.

Safety Brandon McGowan, who's recovering from a torn ACL, was also placed on the P.U.P. list.

Defensive tackle Tank Johnson, who hurt his quad while lifting weights during the offseason, was placed on the non-football injury list.

Check ChicagoBears.com later for expanded coverage.

how do you pull a hammy during a PHYSICAL if you're properly in shape and properly stretched?

the evidence suggests otherwise.

Wow, I would figure even you wouldn't be too stupid to realize what this is. TJ faking it and giving away his job.

the evidence doesn't "suggest" anything about his physical conditioning - you do simply because you want to stir up any bs rumors about Bears players that you can.

what the article states is that he pulled a hammy and no where does it state that he was or wasn't properly stretched - and proper stretching pre-activity has nothing to do w/ his offseason conditioning.

I think the evidence suggests that he lifted really heavy last night and his hammy was still tight from that, making it more prone to getting pulled...

see, "evidence" can "suggest" whatever you want it to suggest...

i don't know if he's faking it to give away the job, but it's a great way to "hold-out" of camp w/o having to pay the now $14K per day... just ask Porter about his calf strain...

it's just amazing how the disgruntled guys are the ones that get "hurt" the first days....

Jones is supposed to be a total workout warrior. He lifts weights all season long, and after practice he goes home and breaks down tape on his own. He is supposed to be muscle on top of muscle. I doubt the hamstring strain is from being out of shape.

I think he is probably wrong about making a fuss about holding out, because he will get lots of time in the backfield. Plus, Benson has not proven anything and his time in the sun will not be guaranteed without the proper performance. Jones is a Rosenhaus client and there is always a hidden agenda with ole Drew.

PUP means you are officially out until __________

????????

In the preseason, PUP means you are officially out until you are taking off the PUP list (which can be at any time). If you are on the PUP list at the start of the regular season, that's a different story.

yep--but even mike was in shape enough not to pull his hammy while taking his physical :first:

let me turn it around: how does a properly-tuned workout machine pull a hammy while getting a physical? pick and poke at it all you want.

now you're reading too much into it. he simply pulled a hammy while getting a physical. the irony--among other things--speaks for itself.

Muscle-bound players that don't take a break from working out are very susceptible to muscle injuries.

That said, I'd say it's even odds that this pulled hammy is the result of Jones' desire not to toil as Benson's backup.

Swamp tard would rather use illogical conclusions to rip the Bears than actually post something that doesn't make him look like an idiot.

being muscle-bound and being in shape are entirely two different solar systems. thanks for playing.

if you're muscle bound, it's all the more reason to be in shape and properly stretched out.

It's only a calf. Not an ACL.

it's pretty funny how it happened. trust me: these bear fans would be pissing themselves laughing if a lion player--any lion player--pulled a hammy while getting his first-day camp physical.

it's hilarity at it's finest :D

broncos approached Bears about trade for RB Jones

Len Pasquarelli

7/27/2006

In an apparent effort to address a tailback position that features plenty of depth but no proven starter, the Denver Broncos recently approached the Chicago Bears about the availability of six-year veteran runner Thomas Jones, ESPN.com has learned.

The bait dangled by the Broncos in their efforts to upgrade at tailback: Disgruntled wide receiver Ashley Lelie, who boycotted the team's offseason workouts and who may not report to camp when the Broncos begin practicing on Friday.

Denver was rebuffed by the Bears but the inquiry offers at least circumstantial evidence that the Broncos may not feel comfortable with their options at tailback. Ironically, Jones suffered a strained hamstring on Thursday as he was taking a pre-training camp exam and the Bears placed him on the league's physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

Chicago officials said Jones will be evaluated daily. Because he is on the active PUP list, Jones can begin practicing in camp as soon as he passes a physical.

The Broncos released veteran tailback Mike Anderson, their leading rusher in 2005, for salary cap reasons this spring, and he signed with the Baltimore Ravens as a free agent. That left Denver with three tailbacks -- former Heisman Trophy winner Ron Dayne, speedster Tatum Bell and second-year veteran Cedric Cobbs -- vying for playing time. Denver officials have said they are satisfied with that group, but the inquiry about Jones might indicate otherwise.

The top three backs on the Broncos' depth chart have totaled only 15 regular-season starts. Dayne, the most experienced of the trio, has started only three games in the last four seasons and has logged just 105 carries over the past three years. Bell has only one career start and Cobbs has appeared in just four outings.

A first-round pick of the Cardinals in 2000, Jones has resurrected his career since leaving Arizona after the 2002 season and has been especially productive since signing with the Bears in 2004. In Jones' two years in Chicago, he has rushed for 2,283 yards and 16 touchdowns and in 2005 became the only Bears player besides Walter Payton to gain 1,300 yards in a season.

Bears officials said earlier this week that Jones and last year's first-round choice, Cedric Benson, would rotate at tailback. But the hamstring injury suffered Thursday figures to sideline Jones for a few days and might give Denver officials pause about making another effort to pry him free. Jones has two years left on his contract, at base salaries of $2.25 million each in 2006 and 2007, and would like to have his contract enhanced. It's believed that Jones, 28, would welcome a trade.

Jones is not making a big deal about it. Here is the latest update from ffmastermind.com:

-- Thomas Jones Placed on PUP List; Wants to Start --

Thu Jul 27, 2006 --from FFMastermind.com

The Chicago Tribune reports Bears RB Thomas Jones finally broke his silence Thursday, speaking for the first time since skipping voluntary offseason workouts, losing his starting running back job to RB Cedric Benson and straining his right hamstring. The latest development occurred early Thursday morning while Jones ran sprints as part of a team physical. The Bears placed their leading rusher on the physically unable to perform list, which he can leave at any time before the Sept. 10 season opener. The Bears said more information about Jones' injury would be available Friday. Jones called the injury "not serious." More serious are Jones' feelings over being demoted after rushing for a career-high 1,335 yards last season. "Anybody who has done what I've done the last couple of years is a guy who should be a starter," Jones said. "I think I was the leader on the offense the past two years. I think I've been very productive despite some of the situations I've had to be in. I've worked hard. I've kept my mouth shut. I stay out of trouble. I do what I'm supposed to do and what the coaches ask me to do. "As far as me being a starter, I was the starter the past two years. So we'll see how it goes." Jones and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, made it clear to Bears management before the NFL Draft in April that he would welcome a trade. Asked if he still desired one, Jones said he enjoyed playing with his teammates. But he didn't directly answer the question. "I really don't have a comment on that," he said. "Those were things that happened before. Now I'm here in training camp and I'm trying to focus on that." Still, Jones refused to criticize Bears management, even complimenting strength and conditioning coach Rusty Jones. But Jones said he skipped the voluntary workouts because of his knowledge of the offense and because he prefers working out with his own personal trainer.

so you alienate arguably your most dependable player on offense just because you have an over-hyped and over-paid and unproven second-year rb you need to force into the lineup? nice work, bears. brilliant.

Apparantly you're privy to some information that you're not sharing and a link is required. The only thing that the Bears have done is refuse to renegotiate a contract that has 2 years left on it, standard policy in the NFL.
