Byars41 0 Posted August 25, 2006 Why would you take away the schedule they play? Take away the Eagles schedule last year and they don't lose a game? its just too bad they don't play in the NL. they could be cruising like the Mets if they did.

It wasn't until after I gave up my seats that it started becoming the ritual it is now. Did they make it out to be a ritual in the 70's?

Not at all. It was only used one time during the tryouts. Tony Luke is getting interviewed and he starts it, and the rest of the group join in. There was anther error I forgot to mention. In the very begging of the movie, him and his buddies are all at a game in which the squad is losing. At the end of the game Walberg pours out about half of his beer. Like THAT would ever happen at the Vet?

Hit 'em low, hit 'em high, and watch our Eagles fly! Fly, Eagles, fly, on the road to victory! E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES! dude, it used to be "fight eagles fight", but lurie changed it to "fly" instead of "fight" in the 90's. another example of the pussification of america. so the movie was right about that oh, here's a source of info: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fight Song Eagles fans will sing the team fight song with little to no provocation, and always after an Eagles touchdown. Fly, Eagles fly, on the road to victory! Fight, Eagles, fight, score a touchdown one-two-three! Hit 'em low, hit 'em high, And we'll watch our Eagles fly! Fly, Eagles fly, on the road to victory! E-A-G-L-E-S, EAGLES![1] The fight song was reputedly the creation of former owner Jerry Wolman's daughter, who, impressed by the "war chant" of the rival Washington Redskins, implored her father to play an Eagles equivalent during their games. With the later sale of the team and move to Veterans Stadium, the fight song was largely forgotten, although a few die-hards could be heard singing the lyrics on special occasions. That it was ultimately brought back to such popular acclaim is testament to the vision of Jeffrey Lurie, whose regime reinstated the practice of playing the song over stadium loudspeakers (with a modern addition of projecting the lyrics on the scoreboard) after Eagle touchdowns. The song is now ubiquitous wherever Eagles fans are found. The song has been heard at Phillies, Flyers, and Sixers games, and even at the Philadelphia Live 8 concert prior to the show. The song is sometimes sung with a slight modification, especially on local radio, in which the lyrics "watch our Eagles fly!" are replaced with "watch those [upcoming opposing team's name] cry!" (e.g. "watch those Cowboys cry!"). Interestingly, the Lurie revival was accompanied by a slight adjustment of the lyrics. Originally, the second line of the song was: "Fight, Green and White, score a touchdown, one-two-three!" With Lurie's modernization of team uniforms, however, and the new emphasis on Black and Silver, the mention of the traditional colors was omitted. Few noticed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphia_Eagles

Dick Hertz 1 Posted August 28, 2006 During a November 10, 1997 Monday Night Football game against the San Francisco 49ers, the Eagles fans, in a 24-12 loss, infuriated by a series of calls by the officials and poor play by the Eagles, engaged in a number of highly visible, large-scale brawls on national television. In the last quarter, one fan fired a flare gun across the stadium into empty seats in the 700 level. Other ignominious incidents that evening include a woman flashing from the luxury suites and a man operating a chainsaw in the parking lot. Shortly thereafter, the infamous Veterans Stadium courtroom was established.

GutterBoy 2,899 Posted August 28, 2006 On Thanksgiving Day (November 23) that year, the Eagles beat the Cowboys at Texas Stadium in which former Eagles placekicker Luis Zendajas left the game with a concussion following a hard tackle by linebacker Jesse Small after a kickoff. After the game, Cowboys rookie head coach Jimmy Johnson commented that Eagles coach Buddy Ryan instituted a bounty on Zendajas and Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman. Two weeks later, on December 10, they played the rematch dubbed "Bounty Bowl II" at The Vet, which was covered with snow in the stands. The volatile mix of beer, the "bounty" and the intense hatred for "America's Team" (who were 1-15 that season) led to fans throwing snowballs at Dallas players and coaches. Even the future mayor of Philadelphia and later Governor of Pennsylvania, Ed Rendell, was accused of paying a nearby fan to throw snowballs. Cowboy receiver Michael Irvin suffered a serious injury when he fell head-first onto the notorious AstroTurf, and would never play football again. A number of fans initially roared their approval for the hit, and again cheered when Irvin was carted off the field on a stretcher. In 2002, Tampa Bay travel agencies could not get insurers to cover their client Buccaneers fans to travel to the NFC Championship at the stadium.

GutterBoy 2,899 Posted August 28, 2006 During the halftime show of a December 15, 1968 game with the Minnesota Vikings, which resulted in a 24-17 loss, Eagles fans booed a young man in a Santa Claus costume and pelted him with snowballs.
GutterBoy 2,899 Posted August 28, 2006 Maybe the most horrific conduct in Veterans Stadium occured on September 16, 1988, when a group of rowdy Eagles fans gang raped two asian sisters in the 700 level for wearing Redskin Jerseys.

vuduchile 1,945 Posted August 28, 2006 Saw it on Saturday. Pretty decent movie, and I loathe the Eagles and Philthy in general. NO SPOILERS HERE: It's definitely a Disneyed Up version of the story, but it was well worth the price of admission. As far as underdog sports stories go, I'd rank it behind Rocky I, Rudy and Hoosiers. I enjoyed the 70s soundtrack, and I literally got chills during the scenes of him covering kick offs. There was one scene that was a little overdone, but it didn't ruin the movie for me. The love story sub plot was pretty pointless. At least the chick was pretty easy on the eyes. All in all, it was the most fun I've had at the movies all year. Suburbia is littered with former high school/college players who never got to live out their childhood dreams of playing pro ball. If you were too small, too slow, blew out a knee, or just not really any good, at some point you were forced to realize that it was over for you. Anyone who's had that experience will love this movie. Myself included. Two thumbs up.

It just like being in Studio 54 If making fun of admittedly one of the worst football songs in the NFL makes you feel better about the awful atrocities commited by your fellow fans then go ahead. If this makes you forgot the losing culture that has flourished in the city of Philadelphia through loss after loss only to see your face of the franchise choke in the super bowl, then I'm happy for you. If this song makes you laugh in what is an otherwise miserable existence as an Eagles fan and all the embarrasment and heartache that comes with it, that's great.
