Benson carted off field

Recommended Posts

this is how it's done DrJ:

per kffl:

Bears | Benson X-rays come back negative

Sat, 5 Aug 2006 13:48:17 -0700

K.C. Johnson, of the Chicago Tribune, reports the X-rays done on Chicago Bears RB Cedric Benson's shoulder (shoulder) came back negative Saturday, Aug. 5, and the running back will undergo more tests to determine the extent of his injury and how long he will be out. He is expected to miss the Bears preseason opener Friday, Aug. 11, against the San Francisco 49ers.

It only took you an hour and a half to come up with a small part of the article that I had already pasted at your request? Congrats...

Like I said last night. Hit was innocous, being carted off means nothing in the NFL today. Every team takes preacutions and assumes worst case even when a player gets a hangnail. Nothing to see here, move on.

Unless people want to see swamp poopie make a dumbass of herself (no surprise there), or see football scooter over-react to anything and everything (no surprise there either)

i never gave a flying fock if benson had a hang nail here or an amputated arm. my criticism is of lovie and how he's handled the benson situation from day 1 of camp. a test coming back showing benson's vagina is still intact doesn't alter that criticism.

nor will it as far as the chicago media's concerned. the fun is just starting in chicago.

and it's innocUous. i normally don't point stuff like that out, but that's about the fifth focking time you've tried to use the word in this thread with that spelling. the next step will be for you to look up what it means.

Somehow Rogers has a sprained shoulder, and all the Lions were doing was singing and dancing in their training camp.

okay, imagine this: for a week a story runs in the media every day about how shaun rogers is taking shots every day in practice. then at the end of the week, shaun rogers gets injured on a seemingly innocent play. how do you think the media would react? how do you think this board would react? how would YOU react?

exactly my point.

:owned:

It's funny how many morons there are in this thread. How *HARD* the hit was has nothing to do with it. How did Javon Walker blow his knee out? Jumping up in the air without being touched? How did Finneran blow his knee out? In a non-contact drill making a cut. By your moronic logic, they should let the D hit the QBs, just not that hard. Yeah good idea. You can hit Manning from his blindside, just don’t drive him into the ground. Hey, it’s hot hard!

swamp dog is 100% correct in this thread. The D had been taking late shots at Benson all week. The play was OVER, Benson was playing at half speed, when he got hit. Ever heard the saying that if you're not playing at 100% speed, 100% intensity, that's when you get hurt?

It was an awkward hit, Brown came in at a weird angel, when Benson had stopped and wasn't expecting contact. How about I tell you I'm going to punch you in the face, then punch you in the face. How about I do it without telling you, without you seeing me. Wonder which one is going to hurt more.

The D has been hitting Benson after the play was over numerous times this preseason. They were standing up for TJ because he gives good head. Lovie wanted to see Benson rise up to it, so he let it slide. Woops. Now he's hurt.

Sounds more like Benson is a poosay and TJones might be the man after all.

He dinged his shoulder on a routine play and was carted off the field? Carted off the field?!? For a shoulder injury?

Ladies & gents, yours truly has dislocated his shoulder a whopping 5 times. And let me tell you...having broken bones, sustained a concussion and strained my back severely, NOTHING compares to the feeling of having your arm ripped out of your socket, while your labrum & rotator cuff shred like tissue paper. And the longer it's out the worse it gets, because all of the hyperextended muscles start to twitch and spasm. :::shudder::: - hurts thinking about it. My doctors told me the it's the 2nd most painful thing next to giving birth. Because unlike a broken bone, you don't typically go into shock for the dislocation.

That's the single worst shoulder injury I can imagine, about an 8.5 on a pain scale of 10, and *I* was able to get up and walk around. Damn skippy I coulda walked off the field, and the 1st time it happened, I drove myself to the hospital. (after that I knew what to do so I'd instruct a pal to pop it in. gross for everyone involved. Glad I have good friends...)

How bad is a shoulder injury that you can't freakin walk off the field? "waaah! get me the cart!"...you POOSAY!

Now if y'all will excuse me I have to go adjust my rankings.

Right on scooter.... Benson sounds like a vag to me also...

in fairness, i will say that it's standard practice to cart players off the field at this time of the year, regardless of the injury. all the teams do it. it's probably not a valid claim against benson to pursue that particular bit of information here.

shaun rogers was carted off the field after his shoulder injury. i'm sure every team does that.

and i just have to say this whenever i can now, especially after pudge's heroics tonight: GO TIGERS!! :P

Actually, that would be a surprise since I'm the one who's been making fun of all these topics.

I happened to be stirring the pot in here getting big fat tasty fish like you to virtually leap out of the water to hook yourselves so I could

I was down in Bourbonais at Bears Training Camp and saw the play live. It didn't look like a bad play at all. At first we thought he just banged his hand on a helmet or something and got a stinger but Benson was down on the field for a good ten minutes surrounded by trainers, he was carted off the field and his shoulder and arm were wrapped up like a mummy. What I don't understand is how does an arm injury affect your ability to walk?

And this is actually a true story: While we were all watching the practice and concern for Benson was growing because of the time delay, this guy yells out, "Oh don't worry, he'll be fine. I hope that wasn't his chicken eating hand."

I attend camp often and sometimes I see more carts on the field then players!.....atleast half the team enters and leaves the field on a cart.

I was not at camp when this happened, but the cart ride was probably due to the fact that they had to drive him back to the training room. so if they were practicing at the stadium across the street, (or at any of the other five fields for that matter) it would make allot more sense for them to drive him instead of making the injured player who needs medical attention walk a quarter mile back to headquarters.......

hahahaha  that's funny!.......yeah they get pretty crazy over there, my kids and I always have a blast! it's allot of fun, and you can't beat the $5 Pizza.......

In all seriousness, I like Benson and I agree with those who say if Thomas Jones was the "next Priest Holmes" that he would have stuck with a team long before this. People defend him saying he pouts because he gets no respect, but from what I can see, he's been a bad apple on every team he's played for, always whining about getting no respect. So maybe teams let him go despite his talent.

Benson looked great in college and I'm definately not on the bandwagon of thinking he's a bust. That's ridiculous. I would still rather have Benson in 2006, and will look for him in the 4th-5th round of every draft. :(

A professional football player taking objection to the roughness of the defense?

B)

Here is a guy who held out too long in his rookie season, lost a job that was basically gift-wrapped for him, then gets some playing time and gets injured.

Now he expects people to take it easy on him?

Bears fans can thank their lucky stars that they have a real man like Thomas Jones on the team. Benson is showing plenty of indications that he may be a bust.

benson: "oh shiat...only 2 weeks? i wanted more time off than that." :P

i wonder if lovie will still have the #1 job waiting for his little pet all gift-wrapped with a cute little bow when benny returns.

before you pop the champagne cork:

--the mri results are not known yet

--benson is slated to see a specialist about his shoulder this week.

both the above items will be the definitive word on when he returns, nothing else.

um, why are these two posts put together? they don't suggest what you want them to suggest. 1) i wish no injury on benson 2) everyone needs to wait until the mri comes back and benson visits the specialist before "exhaling."

simple as that.

blame your own chicago media for the "negativity." they're the ones saying the mri isn't known and that benson will see a specialist this week.

if you wanna play mr. sunshine, contact the bears and tell them to rip up the mri and cancel benson's appointment this week. then call lovie and tell him to put benson in friday.

aside from doing that, screw off. this is an ff board. the information i've posted is valid info and info ffers will want to monitor. if you don't like it? tough focking shiat. don't read it.

yourea rock solid spectator man, Ive gotta tell you. Im no Chicago fan. But when and if I ever see you provide solid information on this particular subject, Ill thank you personally. But the BS is just friggin' old dude, and Ill let you from here on out every single time. Like the BS about Lovie mishandling the TC situation from day 1. Wheres that coming from ? Whatcha got? Youve got a hurt Thomas Jones who cant play anyway. How's he blowing that? he's calling a hardworking and talented guy his current #1 back. He hasnt named a starter. Jones cant jog let alone run. Where's the blown assigment? Please, inform me.

jones wasn't hurt when lovie named benson #1--he got hurt afterward. so it's not only a weak premise to suggest benson has no choice but to be #1, it's a faulty premise.

i'm not the only one one planet earth who questioned lovie about his handling of the whole situation. and frankly, it's my opinion and i have a right to the opinion. it's your right to disagree with that. i don't care. you believe benson deserved to be #1. have i personally attacked you for that position? no. i don't agree with it and i've given reasons why i don't agree it, but that's the extent of it.

certain posters here are lazy: they'll lob out a personal attack when they have nothing but their thumb up their azzes and no motivation to take their thumb out of their azzes. don't take the easy way out and follow suit.

here's an article that says more tests are coming and there hasn't yet been a definitive word on the injury. feel free to kill the messenger all you want, but i didn't write it:

http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/story.asp?id=214323

and here's an excerpt from another article from chicago sun times today:

"he likely will undergo an MRI exam on his left shoulder, perhaps as soon as Monday. For now, Benson and team officials are saying the shoulder is sprained after a hit from behind by safety Mike Brown at practice Friday night.

X-rays revealed no broken bones, and Benson is wearing a sling. In a best-case scenario, he could be back on the field in two or three weeks, but a better evaluation won't come for a few more days."

(emphasis mine). http://www.suntimes.com/output/bears/cst-spt-benson06.html

the first article/link points out that the bears haven't ruled out a separation (don't ask me, i'm not a doctor) and both articles say the "soft tissue analysis" (mri and whatever else, i assume) will be the key as to whether the initial "best case scenario" of him missing 2-3 weeks will be validated--or whether there's more damage that hasn't been revealed yet.

how is this information not valid to our conversation? how is this information that ffers on this board shouldn't know?

knock yourself out and kill the messenger. whatever helps, i guess.

You know, like everyone else, that Lovie Smith named Benson the '#1 RB', not the starter, BEFORE TC a while back when Jones wasnt reporting to OTAs, voluntary camps, was asking for a trade and more money, and was grumbling like a kid over the situation. Lovie didnt do this once TC started. Jones came in on the 1st friggin' day and hurt his hamstring performing a physical. The man was hurt on day 1 of TC.....warming up. You know this. How is that mishandling a situation? Youve got a hurt back and another back looking great, and someone has to run with the first team O. Who's NOT gonna name someone a #1 in that spot? TJ is not all-world. The man had a single solid season behind a solid Oline with a great D. Alot of backs would have put up #s in that situation. He's not a career workhorse. Lovie did exactly what he should have done...declared a lead guy to run with the 1s, made it known that the competition was still wide open and that he wanted and needed every back on his team to stay on his team because he'd need every last one of them for the marathon NFL season. You know all of this. Lovie's not out there lobbying to trade Jones. He coaches the players he has that are in and healthy, and manages his roster and the egos of these guys the best way he sees fit.......like all other good NFL coaches do.

Lazy poster? Are you kidding me? Im not some schlep who comes in here and posts 10 times a day, has 15000 posts, and just likes to read his own writing. I like to make my post counts, and know as much as anyone on this site. But blatant hating on a rival team is just flat weak. . Who DOESNT know that Benson needs an MRI? This is not ground breaking news, and dont seem caring when you suggest the Bears need to do this to protect their player. Anyone with a brain knows this needs to and is going to happen. Noone is doing cartwheels because of a negative Xray, and people with sense realize an MRI could be substantially more revealing. But dont disguise your hate for the Bears as some effort to provide posters here with the best information possible. There's a difference between offering solid and valid opinions and blatant hating. You know the difference.....that's the basis of my beef here. There are plenty of teams I have no love for, but youve got to stand above the BS. You want to keep the information clean and unbiased, Im sure everyone here will appreciate it. You wanna throw opinions around on every topic on the board, go right ahead....Im sure many readers will enjoy. But if you dont have the ability to be relatively objective because of your complete and total disdain for a franchise and call out a rock solid coach with a brilliant NFL future ahead of him as a result, you need to check yourself. Im sure Lovie would have a couple of nuggets on knowledge to let you know how things work in his world. #1=starter; starter=#1. pretty simple, really. that doesn't mean it can't change, but it's a pretty significant statement to make before camp even begins.

and my previous post contains "solid" information--which you've chosen to ignore and instead hurl personal insults. not that i care, but i find it ironic and amusing given your pompous attitude. regardless, your little rant here is completely misguided: if you want to see true "hate" hit the search button and check out who starts most of the lion lion threads--including shaun rogers injury thread (who, btw, will miss more time than the first prognosis--gee what a hater i am for saying that :bench: ).

As Solo stated, Benson was named #1 when Jones was missing off season functions and voluntary workouts. He also demoted Briggs for the same reason. It didnt mean that Jones would not have a chance to get his job back, just that he had at that time lost it. Lovie sent a msg to all players that you show up or you pay the price. No player is above the team.

When camp was approaching, Lovie had Benson still as #1, but states that everyone will get their reps with the 1st unit.

"We'd even take a fourth one," Smith said. "You look at our history. We're a running team. We need as many good running backs as we can get. We have that. I'm anxious to see all three of them play."

And Smith insisted the competition would be exactly that.

"We're not getting ready to play a game," Smith said. "We're geared toward being ready to play Sept. 10. We're going to give all three guys a chance to prove what they can do. In time, you'll see everybody out there getting the reps."

LINK

Even Benson is quoted as saying he hasnt been handed anything yet:

“It sure does seem it’s my job to lose right now,” Benson said. “I don’t know (for sure). Nothing has been said right now, but I am getting a lot of work with the ones, and I’m taking advantage of it.”

LINK

Once Jones did report, he got hurt immediately. He didnt have an opportunity yet to get his job back. In the end, as you keep harping on, the guy that performs best and works the hardest will get the nod. No one on the team is given anything, they all have to work to keep their status.

I'd say Lovie has handled the situation perfectly. I'm sure you agree now that you have the facts.

walter, where did i say that jones wouldn't have the opportuntiy to get the job back? all players on the depth chart always have a chance to earn the starting job. that goes without saying.

i'm glad you think lovie handled it well. i'll refrain from the personal attacks and say you're welcome to your opinion. it's a free country. but a newsflash: i didn't create the media storm over this issue, although i'm flattered that certain paranoid posters here think i have such power :wall:

if you want to see true "hate" hit the search button and check out who starts most of the lion lion threads--including shaun rogers injury thread

Notice that a Bears fan started this thead and is posting news, positive or negative, about Benson. When the Rogers thread was started, you whined like a little girl about it being bad karma.

I know, I know - everything you say here is just solid news. That Rogers thread on the other hand was merely biased hating. Your little world is just soooo predictable.
