GiantsRule 0 Posted September 29, 2006 2nd half Auburn -7 20 Both these teams are moving the ball like their the 99 Rams, Auburns D is looking flat weak against the pass. Think im gonna take my losses on the under in this one and lay off the 2nd half, first losing day since the season started, guess the pendulum had to swing the other way.... Good luck fellas! Y.M.: Hoping for a quick S. Car score and then I'm going to pound the Auburn line in live betting. Good luck to us both!

What gives? I can't place bets from my work computer. I can't make a call from my cubicle. These early start game throw me out of my routine. I bet on a website, but settle with a local middle man. I talk with some of the locals who take calls. I should probably work to reopen accounts with them. But I still would have had a hard time making a call. I don't have a cell phone, and it's amazing how few public phone booths are around anymore. I have a sizable bank roll with the one book, and always let any profits roll over, so I would hate to have to take money out of the bank to open up new accounts for an occasional game. No worries. Seriously, I don't own any credit cards; it's a long and complicated story involving a b!tch of an ex-fiance. Signing up with a book other than local might be difficult. But I will consider it in the future. Line shopping is smart, and I have to see what my options are. phillybear 366 Posted September 29, 2006 By the way, it's nice to see new faces in these threads this year. Change is inevitable, and we don't see some old familiar faces, unfortunately. But I like seeing posts by as many people as possible. No one rips picks, and if we do, it's not mean spirited. It's an exchange of opinions, which is cool. Those that lurk in these threads, and there have to be lurkers when we get 4,000+ views on this thread every week, feel free to post. We are not elitists. Believe me. We welcome all opinions. I know that I do. And whenever someone that might not be a bettor necessarily chimes in with insight on a team they are very familiar with, I pay attention. Dont' be afraid to post. And where did Hurricane Ditka disappear to? I know he is up a sh!tload of money. I hope he didn't pack it in for the year. I like to see his picks, and see if we agree on games. I enjoy it greatly when we agree. I know some don't like teasers here but they pay the electric bills for me. I am just not comfortable placing LARGE wagers on straight lines. Don't sweat it. I know that I personally don't do teasers. But the last 3 years have been very solid for teaser bettors. Just keep an open mind, for when the teaser fortune turns, that you will feel comfortable taking straight up bets. But go with whatever you are comfortable with. GiantsRule 0 Posted September 29, 2006 *UPDATE* Couldn't resist on that 4th down: South Carolina ML +1100 Spurrier called a mostly great game until that final play. Can't figure out why he'd pass on a 4th and short that decided the game, particularly with the way his QB was scrambling. But, overall, a 2-0 night with a slight side bet loss. American Chewy 98 Posted September 29, 2006 IOWA homer here..... I LOVE Iowa in this Sat. nights game. The hype is huge around here. Iowa will be bringing it on Sat. Some are saying Coach Ferent z has saved "something" for this game in the way of play calling. Fans are told to wear yellow to the game so expect to see a sea of yellow in the stands on ABC. GO HAWKS!!! i dont see how iowa wins this game (or stays within a score). they can't run the ball (less than 4ypc against illinois?), they can't pass deep (i think drew tate is not completely healthy and who on iowa is going to burn ohio st deep?) i just dont see how iowa scores points in this game. ohio st's only weekness might be their run def up the middle but iowa has shown no ability to run up the middle, only outside. ohio st is too fast for that. on offense ohio st torched iowa last year (over 500 yrds offense) and i think ohio st has the better athletes again here. i realize iowa is great ATS at kinnick, but ohio st has already been tested in hostile territory at texas. this just seems like a total mismatch but i guess vegas knows something i dont to set this line so low. i'm only gonna go a unit on tOSU, but a few people i know are really loading up on this one. all that said, i'll probably root for iowa to win, i hate ohio st. Overall 46-35-4 +11.045 units 2+ plays 10-9-1 +3.08 units S. Florida +4 1.5 units S. Florida ML +160 .5 unit my not so technical analysis but i like typing it out anyway: i watch s. florida play in person against kansas last week and was impressed with their freshman QB. he'll be a hell of a player in a short time. S. Fla's def did enough to win also. they had a great shot to win that game(or at least take it to OT), esp if they woulda kicked the FG in the first half instead of going for it on 4th down...sigh (still somewhat upset they didnt cover!) anyway this is rutgers 2nd road game (won at UNC) but first as a favorite (and ranked!) i'm not sure they are ready for that, but the public sure thinks they are(87% on rutgers right now). anytime a home team gets more than 3 pts and the public is against them at 70% or more, home team covers 55%. i love those plays, hell we've already seen C. Fla and S. Car do it this week. Go Bulls!!
jenkins 1 Posted September 29, 2006 Here is my take on tonights game. I have seen RU play pretty much every game for many years (I know, I'm a glutton for punishment). Anyway, this RU team is a different team. I know that there is a lot of media hype for this team because they were so bad for so long, but I say that if you are considering putting any money on South Florida tonight be very careful. Rutgers defense has been absolutely unbelievable this year. They have given up 14 points total the last 3 weeks - one TD was a defensive score in garbage time, the other a TD after a turnover gave the opponent the ball on the 17 yard line. Against Carolina, most of the yardage was in the first half of the first game of the season. The D is extremely fast, and Schiano has really turned them into a difference maker. As for the offense, I really don't see how with all of the injuries and suspensions that the South Florida D can stop RU's running game. Between Rice and Leonard I'm not sure too many teams will stop them. RU's QB play has been shaky at best, but there are playmakers on that offense that should be able to compensate. In past years, I would say this is the perfect situation for RU to let down and lose a nationally televised game. But I think South Florida is overmatched pretty much all over the field tonight. I'm not that concerned over the betting trends, etc. in this matchup. I look at both teams and I see Rutgers as a much better team with something to prove. Rutgers -4. 3 Units. As of last night, Rutgers was seeing around 87% of the action. Which isn't surprising, as the Rutgers program has turned a corner, played in a bowl game last year, has recruited pretty well, and is actually nationally ranked after their 4-0 start. They are a national feel-good story. But when you dig deeper, it's hard to figure out how good Rutgers is this year. They lost their decent QB Hart to graduation and the new starter Peel is not all that good. Peel started a few games last year, and was awful then too. Rutgers is a running heavy team, but they don't really run all that impressively. Rutgers runs for 4.7 ypr vs teams that allow 4.4 Rutgers has rushed for 217,166,217,215 yards in their 4 games Rutgers gains 6.6 yppass vs teams that allow 7.4 Rutgers gains 5.3 yards per play vs team that allow 5.3 Rutgers allows 2.3 ypr vs teams that average 3.1 Rutgers allows 3.6 yards per play vs teams that average 4.4 Basically, Rutgers is a pretty good defensive team, runs the ball for a lot yards on a lot of carries and has trouble throwing the ball. Rutgers, in their only road game, beat a lousy North Carolina team 21-16, but got outgained 403-362. Rutgers blew out horrible Illinois 33-0; the half time score was 33-0, and Rutgers had a defensive and special teams score in the first quarter. Rutgers also beat Ohio 24-7 and Howard (who??) 56-7. I think that the early easy schedule, plus forcing 13 turnovers so far, have inflated the public perception of Rutgers. Rutgers is a decent enough team, but why exactly are they favored in this game, and why are they getting nearly all the action? I suppose it’s public perception. South Florida is an often overlooked team, quietly enjoying success anonymously in the Big East. They have become a perennial bowl contending team, and played in a bowl game last year. But they have enjoyed a decided home field advantage for some time now, going 47-12 SU in their last 59 home games. And don’t forget, they whacked Louisville down in South Florida 45-14 last year. Their best player on offense, RB Hall is gone, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Their QB last year Julmiste simply could not thrown the focking ball. As good as the So Flor running game and defense were, they just could not get anything going with their passing game. This year, this team has blossomed into a passing team under the so far impressive freshman Grothe. So Flor rushes for 4.3 ypr vs teams that allow 4.1 ypr So Flor averages 7.9 yp pass vs teams that allow 7.2 ypp So Flor averages 5.9 yp play vs teams that allow 5.6 So Flor gives up 2.7 ypr vs teams that gain 3.5 ypr So Flor allows 4.4 yards per play vs teams that gain 4.6 So Flor is a solid defensive team like Rutgers, but have shown to be a pretty good passing team against a tougher schedule. So Flor dominated McNeese St in their first game, beat Flor International 21-20 in their second, both home games. Flor International is an interesting team, probably the best Sun Belt team, that has gone 0-4 to start the season and has lost those 4 games by a combined total of 11 points, so that is not a surprising final score, especially when you are breaking in a young quarterback. So Flor beat Central Florida fairly convincingly on the road, then laid an egg at Kansas, losing 13-7. Kansas is a tough team at home. The key to tonight‘s game will be to stop the Rutgers running game, and So Flor has a very athletic defense and very athletic team overall. It seems that they get a lot of Florida kids on their roster, some of the very finest high school talent in the country. So Flor starting linebackers are starting for their third straight year together. It’s a very solid, experienced unit, to challenge the Rutgers running game. I don’t see any reason why So Flor can’t win the battle of the trenches in this game. Last year, So Flor beat Rutgers at Rutgers 45-31, but So Flor had a huge turnover advantage of 6-0. And many will point this out as a main reason to back Rutgers. However So Flor is equal or better in the stats than Rutgers in many categories, so taking a home dog, which I would have made the favorite, looks like the way to go. I don’t think this will be a high scoring game. This is the first game of a three game road trip for Rutgers that will tell us how good the Scarlet Knights are. I think they run into problems right off the bat tonight. This line is not going up, despite the heavy Rutgers action. Seems like the books like all this action on Rutgers. Good luck to all. Adding: Montreal is on a 6 game losing streak, and getting desperate. They still control their destiny in the East division. Their recent struggles are attributed to playing the stronger West division teams, and they are 6-2 SU against the East this year. Winnipeg is enjoying a resurgence, but remain 2-7 SU at home. Winnipeg won a close game vs Montreal last week, and I like the Montreal to win this game on this quick turnaround revenge game.

phillybear 366 Posted September 29, 2006 I know Philly gave a few last year, but what are a few sites to go to for college and pro picks forums? One of the better ones is covers.com Pretty active sight, some decent information and chatter, and your typical flame wars. There are a bunch of dopes, but some quality insight is there are well. You have to weed through it. Usually, you can find in-game threads and possible links to games as well. I check in on a number of other sites too, but the activity seems to be dropping off severely over the years. For technical game information, you can go to a site like statfox.com to get pure numbers on games in their free matchup sections.

College YTD: 54-20-4 (+48 units) NFL YTD: 13-7-1 (+9 units) You won't beleive the excitement I experienced when I got to the forum and noticed the last post on this thread was from Hurricane Ditka. I think I lost a couple years of my life thinking I wasn't going to get some locks this week. I look forward to your picks.
rjconley48105 0 Posted September 29, 2006 By the way, it's nice to see new faces in these threads this year. Don't sweat it. I know that I personally don't do teasers. But the last 3 years have been very solid for teaser bettors. Just keep an open mind, for when the teaser fortune turns, that you will feel comfortable taking straight up bets. But go with whatever you are comfortable with. Philly I have followed your bets for the last couple years and it has payed off for me. And as you say your going to win some and lose some but its about being ahead in the end. I don't write much on here but you have always answered my questions on my bets so I appreciate that. It was tough for me in the begining cause I only seem to bet on favorites so the change to take the UD's was tough but fun. I am a Michigan Homer so if any questions on them go ahead and ask. Its fun to watch a good defense again. It hasnt been since 97' that they looked this good. Thanks again

Thanks again This is the first time in quite a few years that we can use "Michigan Defense" and "Aggressive" in the same sentence. The past few years, we couldn't even use those terms in the same paragraph. That said, I think I'm riding the Wolverines out betting wise the rest of the year. I think this is a legit Michigan team (offense, defense, special teams) and I still think the lines more resemble last year's dissappointment. I'm thinking it may take most of the season for the lines to catch back up to the talent of this year's Michigan team. Wow, I wish my wife was as excited when I step out of the shower as some of you are to see my football picks. Well I don't think you stepping out of the shower makes your wife any money. cribdog 0 Posted September 29, 2006 Here are my picks for the week...not sure what my record is, but know my bankroll has doubled! Florida -13.5 vs Alabama...Urban has these boys playing well right now, and they will roll against a suspect Alabama team SDSU -2.5 @ San Jose St....Finally a winable game for SDSU, and Chuck Long badly needs his first victory as a head coach Georgia Tech +9 @ Virg. Tech...Georgia Tech has been coming up big against good teams lately, and I think that trend will continue Ohio St -7 @ Iowa...Ohio St knows how to handle the pressure of big games and play well, Iowa always seems to lay an egg in games like this. good luck to all, make a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
