I can't believe they didn't go play-action at least once down there at the end, and take a shot at the end-zone. Even with a sack Rackers still has a 48 yarder.

Not really much to bash you on. The Cards kicked the Bears ass in the first half. They made the stops they had to and made some huge plays on defense and special teams in the second half, but Arizona choked huge and whoever was on the losing end of that strip call would have a case to debate it.

 

I just want to clarify, no intelligent Bears fan is serioulsy comparing this team to the 85 Bears. And by seriously, I don't mean sign-people trying to get on TV at games. This is a by-product of the ESPN hype machine how needs to fill hours of pregame and Chicago media with nothing baseball to talk about. We were laughing along with everyone else when they were comparing this team to the 85 Bears in the pregame show. That's not to say I don't have high expectations for this team or that I didn't expect them to kick Arizona's ass, I did, but I see some jokers saying/posting "You can stop the comparison to the 85 Bears". They never begun in earnest.

 

How about some horrible panic calls by Lovie? The onside kick and going after the punt so early? Terrible play calling by Turner in the first half too. As soon as they threw the bomb on the first play and were three and out, I had a bad feeling about the start of the game. The coaches have as much to work on as the offense.

They ran it twice...once on 2nd and 2, the second time on 3rd and one. Thats how you play football when you are in prettty easy FG range...and want the other team to use their timeouts. And you should be able to get 2 yards.

 

I disagree in this instance. Playing against an undefeated team with some time on the clock, I don't think two ultra conservative runs up the middle into a stacked defense was the right decision. They needed to put the Bears away once and for all with a screen or a bootleg or something that hadn't been used all game.

 

The Cardinals were passing successfully all day long, and when they got within scoring range they seemed to get conservative...ended up costing them the game

They didn't exactly roll up a lot of offense after the 1st quarter, and ended up with 286 yards of offense at 3.5 yards per play. I'd say the key is to force Rex Grossman into 6 turnovers. If every team can do that, the Bears are going to be hard pressed to win games.

 

Despite allowing 2 TD's for this first time this season, I didn't see a defense that was exposed and dominated the entire night... The 1st TD drive was terrible. The 2nd wasn't great either, but it was on a 25 yard field thanks to an Int. The next 2 FG's came off the fumbles on drives of 22 and 10 yards.

 

In the 2nd, their only FG came on the stupid onside kick, on a drive perpetuated by running into the kicker...bad play, yes. But more on the case of the ST than the defense there...

To say Green coached a good game is BS. He coached a decent game...had a good gameplan.

 

However, you have other options in neutralizing the rush than the same stuff over and over...especially during the long stretches that it was not working. Screens...even take a shot or two deep...especially after the turnovers deep in the zone...you cannot just settle for 3 over and over again.

Yeah...severall bad calls by the Bears...and Grossman even...kept throwing deeper balls when they really just needed to move the chains some and get in any sort of rythym....and he was way off even when not intercepted.

I agree a screen somewhere...but 2nd and 2...getting inside one minute...you have a pretty money kicker....you make the other team use its two timeouts....you do not give them the ball with a minute left and timeouts.

 

They got conservative much earlier than that...but those two runs I will defend.

As much as I usually disagree with Theisman's terrible commentary, he hit the nail right on the head last night. The Cardinals had a lot of success spreading the Bears out and moving the ball via draws and the short passing game. Once they got a lead, they seemed very content to sit on the ball, run/run/pass, then kick field goals.

 

The Cardinals fans can thank Dennis Green for going conservative and allowing the Bears to hang around.

 

As a Bears fan, I was elated that the defense bailed us out, and I'm also happy this is the first time this season they've had to do it. Nice to know they're still there when we need them. However, the offense looked brutal. Since they still won the game, I think this is a positive. It's obvious the Bears offense was playing over its heads up until last night's game, and they needed a disaster like this to remind them they're not invincible. Hopefully they right the ship and I expect a far more balanced and effective offense next week.
