I'll take a look at projections and whatnot but I'd rather use my own brain to figure out who to take. Plus, I can't use any of that stuff. Draft dominator, I can't even figure out. Another good reason not to use products like these is if you do badly. If your team sucks you only have yourself to blame unless you use something like Draft buddy. I strongly suggest buying it if it works for you but it doesn't seem to be my thing.

Bouve 0 Posted July 8, 2004 All the compiler does is cut down on the hand writing. All you do is put in the numbers and it adds up the numbers for you and puts them all in order (position, overall, etc). The draft buddy keeps track of all the teams as well as automatically takes off the players taken from your imported cheatsheet from the compiler.

I hate using #s to make up my draft board. Do you think NFL teams look at college prospects' #s from thier college career and just plug them into a computer? That is only one part of the process. There's looking at how the player plays on tape, how he'll fit into an offensive/defensive system, ect. I enjoy using all these methods when scouting for my fantasy team. That is only one part of the process. There's looking at how the player plays on tape, how he'll fit into an offensive/defensive system, ect. I enjoy using all these methods when scouting for my fantasy team. I tend to be a little bit more open to other people's opinions, myself. And no one is saying you shouldn't use your own mind and all of the available methods when scouting a FFB team. This is simply one additional method available to you for a very minimal cost. (no, I do not work here, but they should pay me royalties for this glowing endorsement....*cough - free T-Shirt, cough!*) I used to think like you, until I checked out the draft compiler this season. The insinuation that using the draft compiler requires less thought process than making your own is a pretty shallow p.o.v. Generally in life, the more information you have, the better of fyou are - and that holds true whether you agree or disagree with the information you are evaluating. Using critical thinking, I can easily use their rankings system as a benchmark to enhance the hard work that I have done in the off season in making my own projections. Some I might agree with, and some I might not. some players I won't draft on personal taste alone, and some I will take past injury history into account. but to get the perspective of where many people rank the players, in my humble opinion, is worth the $10 alone. I can make whatever projections and rankings I like (and I do - usually starting as early as March...February this season) but if I don't have a good impression of those players' "market value" then i might well blow it by reaching for one player, or waiting too long on another because *my* rankings might dictate otherwise. Instead of seeing it as an alternative to your own projections, you should try to think of it as a tool to enhance your projections. Really I just thought I'd check it out and $10 was a very small price to pay. I used a very small % of my 2003 FFB winnings to buy it. But when I saw how it worked and that i could incorporate my own projections into the mix, I started to really like it. And even if it ends up only remotely close to their rankings/projections by the time I'm done customizing it, it still makes a GREAT draft tool, in that you have the players listed, color coded and the BYE week data all right there. That alone saved me so much work in Excel that it was SO worthwhile to spend the $. My $.
FFKingofthemall 0 Posted July 8, 2004 Well, my main money league is with a group of buddies and SERIOUS money is on the line. We have our drafts at one person's pad each year. Having the draft buddy wouldn't help in that situation for me. I will just bring a mag and the knowledge in my brain. We just started the keeper version of the league last year and I won it. Very excited to murder them again this season .

How can you compare the real NFL scouting process to that of fantasy land? In fantasy football all you can base your judgement on is numbers (both previous and predicited). In fantasy football all you can base your judgement on is numbers (both previous and predicited). I don't think he knows it, but he is using projections already. He must really hate himself. Good thing we don't have 52 man rosters and have to be worried about salary cap or anything *real* like that when evaluating talent, eh? As for the numbers, what do you think seperates a 1st round NFL draft pick from a 4th rounder? You think NFL GMs toss a golf tee up in the air and wherever it points is their next pick? stats don't lie, and "intangibles" are for suckers. I told someone on another forum this when they were espousing the merrits of Barlow's character and leadership to me: when they keep a measurable statistic on it that produces fantasy points for my team, i will begin to use character and leadership in my process for scouting players. Until then, I have stats.

Bouve 0 Posted July 8, 2004 Possible reach for Winslow, I have him going late next round or early round 8 and that is in a regular league without IDP.
The Moz 69 Posted July 8, 2004 On the compiler -- I am sure it's great ! Mike wouldn't have it here if it wasn't. To me it just takes some of the fun out of it doing it on the PC. For me there's nothing like taking out the old paper and pen ! Laugh if you must but for me thats how it is. I tend to think I know enough that all I need by draft time is a list of the players available. just my .
Mike MacGregor 20 Posted July 8, 2004 Possible reach for Winslow, I have him going late next round or early round 8 and that is in a regular league without IDP. Yeah, let me qualify that. I like Winslow's potential, even in his rookie season, but this is earlier than I thought he would go. After FFA's next pick, he does have a long while to wait though. Zap 0 Posted July 8, 2004 Give me one second. That went fast! Your second has expired. I'm proxy man tonight! PackerAaron also seems to be away. This is harder from home with my household in the early evening. I'm stepping away for a few minutes. I think there will be a slight lull after Butcher. I'll update then. Someone may want to double check me afterwards.
Zap 0 Posted July 8, 2004 It's been a 20 minute wait for PA. I'll give him an hour. He was here not long ago discussing Draft Buddy. Just sort of vanished. 40 minutes and I'll pick for him, Grigs will still be awake, and scooter will get his pick. Bluepointer said, he'd check in late tonight. So those of you here and close, may want to send short lists to get us into round 8 tonight.
BleedingEagleGreen 0 Posted July 8, 2004 I'll poke in and out for another hour or so, but then it's bedtime for the Eagles fan. None other than Barnaby himself will be checking in from his hotel room later tonight (around 11 PM Pacific time) and will make his pick, if necessary, then. Otherwise I'll do it early in the AM.
