football_scooter 0 Posted July 8, 2004 Taylor seemed like a safe pick. Not a bad corps of LB to build a D around.... Interesting to note...I kind of do like the hind end of the draft - it's as though folks around me picking have different priorities. Runs start on different things at the other end, so there hasn't been much concern over missing my next potential pick. Little run goin on D right now it looks like... Zap 0 Posted July 8, 2004 I thought I picked after Scooter. Oh well, I'm whipped. If Grigs picks fine. If not, fine. Good work all! Updates will be done by morning or the next day.

football_scooter 0 Posted July 8, 2004 So I am thinking about doing that National Fantasy Football Championship ...14 team leagues though....ow. "$1,250 entry fee, joining 601 other teams who are competing for the $200,000 grand prize. Drafts will be held simultaneously in Las Vegas, Chicago and New York (Sept. 4th)." http://sportsbuff.com/hsfhome.asp?pname=fftoday That one... I've never done a 14 team mock before...anyone know where I could find such a thing? It looks like they have a link to mocks there, but hell if I want to mock with the folks paying $1250...I know I would be taking ridiculous players just to throw off the competition, so i am guessing they do as well... any help would be appreciated. I am a pretty experienced FFBer, but this is $1250 to enter. I guess I can use my projections & the compiler to sketch it out...I mean, players still have the same relative worth in a 14 team league vs 10. It might be more necessary to go RB/RB, and get the skill positions before TE, K, D, but then I do that anyway. Any other tips for a 14 team league that any of you might be able to enlighten me with? PackerAaron 0 Posted July 8, 2004 Morning boys. I'll be back to pick at about 10 AM EST since I'm up after Zap and he's on the left coast and doesn't usualt get on until about 11 EST. Everybody got that? Good.
Mike MacGregor 20 Posted July 8, 2004 Hey scooter. I don't think there is a whole lot of difference in terms of planning for a 14 team league draft rather than a 12. Obviously, you're just going to have to go a little further down the depth chart which benefits skilled competitors. Only thought I have off the top of my head is to maybe make sure you get a 2nd decent QB a little sooner than you normally would, because there will be fewer useful QB as free agents to use as replacements in case something happens to one of your guys. In fact, there probably won't be any existing QB starters available as FA, which isn't the case in a 12 team league.

BleedingEagleGreen 0 Posted July 8, 2004 I've never done a 14 team mock before...anyone know where I could find such a thing? xpertleagues.com antsports.com Both have 14 team mocks. I've never mocked at xpertleagues, but I have at antsports. Antsports is OK, though every mock I've done (10 or 12 team) has had about 25% inactivity. FFKingofthemall 0 Posted July 8, 2004 Is Arrington eligible?
Bouve 0 Posted July 8, 2004 Is Arrington eligible? Depends on the league. From what I gather he still isn't in the NFLPA (although he was for a short time this year as he had some cards made). That means yahoo.com probably won't have him but other leagues still might. I know in 1 league we use FLM and he is available.

BleedingEagleGreen 0 Posted July 8, 2004 I talked to BarnabyWilde this morning (early for him on the Left Coast)... We've got rounds 8 and 9 all set so I'll be here to take those pretty quickly once we get started.
The Moz 69 Posted July 8, 2004 Is Arrington eligible? Why wouldn't he be -- I don't deal with many IDP info -- But last I checked he was a damn good LB -- did he all of a sudden suck ass last year , get caught with drugs, in law trouble ???
PackerAaron 0 Posted July 8, 2004 Larry Fitzgerald is the one player this year that I HAVE to have on my team. I don't usualy target players, and a rookie WR no less, but I just think he will be a monster with Boldin acorss from him...

Sites like NFL.com and Yahoo will not make him available. For this mock, he certainly is available, and a top 10 LB, imo.
Butcher 0 Posted July 8, 2004 Damn you PackerAaron, I was SET to take Fitzgerald. I was worried people would say it was a reach, but I agree....he's going to be great this year. As far as my Driver pick, I'm not sold on Walker being the man in GB. After Driver's injury last year, Favre admitted to not wanting to throw him the ball as much and risk further injury and Driver was timid as well. This year, I think he'll be back and Favre and him will re-develop their chemistry. Walker will be the long ball threat...Driver will be the consistant possesion reciever. He'll make a good #3. I used a random draft gnerator to "place" me in a 14 team scenario, and used my cheat sheet to separate the rounds in a sort of "worst case" scenario. As I went through that exercise a couple of times, I realized how few RBs and Qbs there would be, and selected a 2nd QB within the first 8 picks every time. It was an encouraging process - each time, assuming "worst case" that no player slipped at all, I stil had what appeared to be a very competitive team. Thanks for the tip - any other advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I'm an arrogant bast@rd, but I am really not that intimidated byt this idea - I really feel like I can compete with anyone in FFB. Perhaps it will be an expensive lesson in humility? Zap 0 Posted July 8, 2004 I've been considering Driver as a sleeper until yesterday's news about Walker and Ferguson starting, and Driver being #3. I still think it's muddled, but my belief that Driver would emerge as the #1 is gone.
Zap 0 Posted July 8, 2004 For the 3rd time in 4 chances Grigs has taken a back from me that was sitting in my queue. Granted, Henry should have been gone before Grigs took him, but still. I read a long (I mean long) piece about Westbrook and Buckhalter yesterday. I think we're approaching a big fall off at back, I have a bye week issue there, and needed to shore it up. I prefer Foster, who I think will put up fantasy numbers almost equal to Davis, but after reading the volumes of information on Eagle's backs, I'm pretty confident Buckhalter will get his this year. I've perused a couple dozen mocks, and Davis has really been slipping like he has here, but the hype on Westbrook remains strong.

I still think it's muddled, but my belief that Driver would emerge as the #1 is gone. Yeah, i've heard the #3 chatter too. I've heard Driver interview on a local radio station here. He says he expects to be the #1 guy, for whatever that's worth. He's worked hard in the offseason and says he has no lingering injuries whatsoever. We'll see. Not like there are a whole lot of other options out there. By the way, I also think Buck will get a chance this year. I think he'll end up with more rushing TD's, while Westbrook will be used more in the passing game. He seems like the better short yardage/goal line back to me. BleedingEagleGreen 0 Posted July 8, 2004 BleedingEagleGreen, I had Brookings name typed out but erased it and went with Harrington We (BarnabyWilde and myself) were surprised that he lasted as long as he did, so we were prepared with a few other names just in case you didn't change your pick. Brookings is a tackle machine and (according to the ADPs I've seen) is going a bit earlier than we grabbed him.
Zap 0 Posted July 8, 2004 Probably could have waited another round for Harrington. I too had Brookings in my sights, but needed to fill another need, and had a debate between him and other IDPs. I figure some good stuff will come back around on D, and had to shore up the RB issue. Brookings should have gone before a few other LBs, imo. On that basis there was a value in taking him now. I'm quite curious to see how my D turns out being I'm still waiting to start building it.
