edjr 6,580 Posted July 17, 2009 And they were trying to make it harder for him. Never seen a tennis court that they tried to Roger proof. but yes...Id like to see some shorter narrow courses...but Tiger has done pretty well there too. Because he is pretty darn good hacking it out of rough and so good around the greens. He is not the longest hitter off the tee...some people still think that. Where he is long is from the fairway and how high he can hit those long irons and still get them to stop...that is where he just kills people. as i have stated already. tiger has only won 2 majors on par 70 courses. Why is that? because he doesn't have 8 extra par 5's to dominate. Shorter courses, par 70, thicker rough = how to tiger proof a course. Not what the masters did and don't get me wrong, Tiger is probably the best all around golfer anyway with ease, he is not the longest, but he's the best on par 5's and it's not close. Sho Nuff 720 Posted July 17, 2009 Agreed that he is best on par 5s...again, not from his length off the tee but his length with long irons and the ability to hit them high. And even if he misses...he is money around the greens. This week it again seems he struggled to be comfortable at all with his driver and it was all over the place. Does not matter much where he plays if he is hitting it like that off the tee.
edjr 6,580 Posted July 17, 2009 and what do you know? as soon as I hit "reply" tiger reaches the last par 5 in 2 and now has a decent shot at making he cut.

And probably still got better ratings than any tennis tournament this year. - - Not even close Wimbledon finals ratings best in 10 yearsEmail Print Share Associated Press NEW YORK -- Roger Federer and Andy Roddick's epic Wimbledon final last Sunday was the most-viewed men's final at the All England Club in 10 years. NBC said Thursday that an average of 5.71 million people tuned in to watch Federer win his record-setting 15th Grand Slam title. The number was the highest since Pete Sampras beat Andre Agassi in the 1999 final, attracting 5.85 million viewers. The 3.8 rating and 10 share was the best for a men's final since Sampras defeated Patrick Rafter in 2000, and surpassed last year's classic between Federer and Rafael Nadal by 9 percent. Federer beat Roddick 5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 3-6, 16-14 in a match that lasted 4 hours, 16 minutes. The fifth set was the longest in major final history. Sho Nuff 720 Posted July 20, 2009 Interesting enough, they were trying on local radio today to come up with comparable things to a 59 year old making the final group and coming close to winning the Open. Some nice examples from sports that many would agree are even more physically grueling than golf...and would compare to even...gulp...tennis. Gordie Howe played hockey til he was 51 years old...and played in all 80 games for Hartford in 1979. Hell, Jaime Moyer is still pitching and he is 47. George Forman was 45 when he again won a heavyweight title by KO. Connors made the semi finals at the US Open when he was 39. Nolan Ryan was throwing no-hitters in his 40s. There are examples like this all over the place...yet, some here think Golf is the only sport where older guys can compete. Yes, you can compete a little bit longer...but some of the greats in other sports continued playing and playing well to their 40s and Howe in his 50s was still playing freaking hockey.
