Skins RBs

Recommended Posts

GB, BUF, TEN all in the market for a RB and won't get Peterson where they draft. DET may be too, since they seem worried about KJ's health, but probably are ok.

Would you give up Portis for a mid #1 pick? Maybe

Would you give up Betts for a high #2 pick? No

Do you think Gibbs seriously wants both of them back? Maybe

Who is better for the Skins offensive scheme? Betts

Is Portis tradeable given the cap numbers? Yes

If so, what are we after in giving up Portis? DT, DE, LB, CB, draft pick(s)

I still think Danny Boy has something up his sleeve here. It's been much too quiet for a bad team that only has 4 picks in this years draft.

Having both is great insurance but Washington is rebuilding and should act like a team that is. Honestly, I think they are going to keep on sucking if they go on trying to be the NFL version of the Yankees. They should trade away Portis or Betts for the best picks they can get. They need to start over.

ETA: I'm so glad Ted Thompson doesn't run the Packers the way Snyder does the Redskins.

I hope they are looking for DEs...and then...health of Portis be damned...

Green Bay offers KGB for Portis.

I have a sense Portis is outta here soon. His rant at the end of last year made me think he'd be dealt in the offseason. Now its just a matter of things sorting out. There is nothing out there for GB, TEN, or BUF now that Rhodes is in OAK.

Assuming the draft goes like this...

OAK QB

DET QB, Johnson, or Joe Thomas

CLE QB, Peterson, Johnson, Joe Thomas, or trade

TB Johnson or DL

ARI OL or DL

If we got GB's #1 or KGB, that would be sweet. Draft Branch at #6, and pick up a corner or DE with the other first rounder. Pickup a veteran backup FA RB (ie Duckett, Barlow).

Dunno...I just think something has to be in the works since 1 pick in the first 4 rounds won't solve much.

 To this whole thread.

:pointstosky: to our Hokies actually doing anything in the NCAA BB tourney. Beat Duke and UNC, lose to Marshall. Our players are dumber than most anthills.

1st of all you wouldnt get a mid 1st rounder for with Portis....and 2nd why wouldnt you give up Betts for a high second pick?(even though you wouldnt get a high 2nd for him)

Betts played a few years and only has shown skills in minimal work last year, what in that do you trust?

If you guys are so quick to dump Portis why did you trade a top 3 D player or even the best D player in the league for him?

Interesting situation in Washington. With Campbell entering his third pro season at QB and only seven starts so far I'd expect the Redskins to rely heavily on their rushing attack. I would think they'll want/ need as much quality as they can get at RB. In five seasons, last year was only the second full season Betts has made it through after missing significant time in three of his first four years and Portis is always a candidate to miss a couple of games so neither can really be counted on as an everygame starter. I wouldn't be surprised to see Washington keep them both and draft another back relatively early and see what develops during camp and the preseason before they actively seek to make a trade involving either Portis or Betts, if at all. Betts is signed for the next five years at only a million per which, to my way of thinking, would make him easier to trade and get value. Both Portis and Betts were second round draft picks so what the 'skins would want in return for either will be interesting to see if it develops that way.

I think it's kinda funny that a solid player can have a significant, but short-term injury on a mess of a team, but still put up 7TDs & 500 yards in only half a season, have his backup come in and play well, and suddenly everyone wants to write him off as yesterday's news. It baffles me, really, how far Portis is dropping in rankings and confidence.

Betts is a good backup RB, and played well behind a somewhat-decent offensive line designed to block for Portis. But that's all Betts is-- a good backup. Portis is 2 years younger, in the prime of his career, and is by far the more talented player. I realize it sounds like he's been around forever already, but he's only 25 years old. Yeah, he's expensive compared to Betts, but you get what you pay for.

Betts is not the future in Washington, folks. Portis is. Betts backs him up. If some team wants to give their left nut for a backup RB, then Washington should take that deal and run. But any thought of Betts being a cheaper but equal alternative to Portis is just silly.

Snyder's doing a better job running this team than some of the suggestions in this thread which are ridiculous. Yea, trade away Portis for a mid 1st - that's like giving away a porsche carrera 911 for whatever's behind box #1. Mid-1st round draft picks fail to be anything worth having in the NFL over 50% of the time.

This thread

Oh, by the way, Betts had an easy schedule of teams to run against last year so I could see the value in trading him away to fill needs.

In what, Madden '07?

Skins fans are delusional if they think they're going to make it deep into the playoffs, much less into the playoffs, with Dan Snyder at the helm.
