Punk / hardcore recommendations

Recommended Posts

I've got a lot of early punk and later new wave but most of it's Brit stuff from the 70s. I want to fill in my collection w/ some later and American stuff. Few bands I'm thinking about picking stuff up from are Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Fear, Agent Orange, the Germs, Minor Threat and the Wipers.

Any other band/album recommendations from this era? Particularly hardcore stuff? :ninja:

Oh.

I'm OK with Buckley and Van Morrison. I think Widespread Panic is the suck. the rest of them I don't know enough to comment.

I still like punk.

Face to Face is a really underappreciated band. The albums to get by them would be: Don't Turn Away and their self-titled album.

Thanks for the recommendations. You guys mentioned a bunch of bands I like (Fugazi, 7 Seconds) and some I haven't checked out enough (the Black Flag album recommendation, Cro-Mags and a few others). I'm drunk and plan to waste money on iTunes tonight.

Thanks

Finally one that I know!

Bad Religion

Dead Kennedys

Both have relatively clean vocals, so if you don't like those, you may not like them, but they're both huge on satire, which is a staple of punk and a personal favorite. If you like the harder, faster, punker stuff, start off looking at BR with Suffer, No Control, and How Could Hell Be Any Worse (How Could Hell is by far the rawest and lowest quality). If you like a little more melodic punk, start a BR collection with Stranger Than Fiction. For the Dead Kennedys, get Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables. If you're looking at Minor Threat, get the Complete Discography.

For music that's fast-paced and punk style, but is lighthearted and silly, check out Me First and the Gimme Gimmes' Are a Drag.

Let's see, what else do I have. . . that's about the best I can think of off the top of my head. BR is probably the best punk band ever (okay, so I'm biased, but they're my favorite by far).

Oh yes, and Short Music for Short People has 30 second samples of 101 bands ranging from hardcore to pop punk. It's worth a listen, especially if you're ADD.

Bad Religion

Dead Kennedys

Minor Threat

All bands I like. Against the Grain is my favorite Bad Religion. I'm not so wild about the Dead Kennedys. I have First 2 '7 by Minor Threat and it's terrific.

Thanks.
