Let Da Big Dog Eat 40 Posted April 25, 2007 I know they need shots and stuff and vets are supposed to be the only ones to administer them? Story: My Ex g/f bought a puppy from a pet store. She had 1 week to get it to a vet and if any problems, return it for a full refund. I saw said pup about 4-5 days later. It couldn't walk! Something wrong with front legs causing it to hop like a rabbit. I tell her to get it to the vet STAT. She even has a coupon for a free visit provided by the pet store. She waits like 10 days. Guess what congential defect. At best it will be "bow legged and clumsy and always considered a disabled dog. NO REFUND, $700 wasted and lots of future vet bills. "Sorry lady, you bought a very expensive mutt" is all they say. How could the breeder + pet store not know this? Has this pup never been to a vet? I thought is was law? Now need to tell me what an idiot she is. One of the reasons she is EX.

remote controller 143 Posted April 25, 2007 I owned two pet stores for 3 years. Partnership fell apart, along with two marriages, forcing the closure. We had a great vet who took care of all of our pets free. He wanted the experience that the birds and reptiles gave him. He only charged us the cost of medicine. When we went and picked out dogs, he asked that we called him when we got back. He gave them a once over, costing us $10.00 each, and any medicine, if needed. He then gave us a clean bill of health on them and another $10 certificate for the new owners to bring in. What he got out of the deal was a new customer, and we had peace of mind knowing we sold healthy pups. I really want to do it again.
Let Da Big Dog Eat 40 Posted April 25, 2007 RC, would you have treated a repeat customer like this? Second $700 pup she has bought in the last year. I am wondering if there isn't more to this than I am being told???????
Electric Mayhem 35 Posted April 25, 2007 That's horrible. It must be tough to have to go through life with such a pronounced birth defect. I feel bad for the dog too.
remote controller 143 Posted April 25, 2007 RC, would you have treated a repeat customer like this? Second $700 pup she has bought in the last year. I am wondering if there isn't more to this than I am being told??????? I wish she would have followed instructions. Seems to me the first thing she would have done was taken the puppy to a vet. I know it is the first thing I've done with my dogs, and the first thing I did with any pup I was gonna sell thru my stores. What the hell was she waiting for? Sounds like she had many signs that something wasn't right. She is in the wrong in this case.

I am wondering if there isn't more to this than I am being told??????? Do I dare ask what happened to the first $700 pup? And what kind of a "mutt" is $700? Sounds more like a pure-bred to me... Mungwater 597 Posted April 25, 2007 if you wanted something bowlegged to sniff your crotch, wouldn't a hooker be cheaper than 700?
edjr 6,580 Posted April 25, 2007 What kind of an asstard buys a dog from a pet store?

GobbleDog 996 Posted April 25, 2007 She could file a small claims suit against the store asking for the $700 back and the cost to euthenize the dog. I'm no attorney, but it seems like she's got a reasonable chance of winning.

GobbleDog 996 Posted April 25, 2007 Why don't you just take him in, name him Wobbledog.. Someday I'm gonna get another black lab, but I already know it's going to pail in comparison to old Gobble. Gobble was the kind of dog everyone wants to own. Smart, athletic, and gentle. He once wandered off and a family called to pick him up. When I got there, the kids were playing frizbee fetch in the pool with him and the parents told me they hated having to call because everyone wanted to keep him. Later in life, Gobble was diagnosed with cancer and my father literally spent over $10,000 in therapy trying to add a couple years to his life. Now my dad is pretty well off, but he's also the biggest miser in the world. I doubt he'd even spend $10,000 on me if I had cancer, but for Gobble it was worth it. The veternarian who treated Gobble kept him for a month or so, and said he was the smartest dog he'd ever met in his life. Damn, I miss him. I wanna dig him up and clone him. frank 2,305 Posted April 25, 2007 1. If you pay $700 for a dog, you are an idiot. 2. If you return a dog because it is sick, you are a jackass.
Sergeant Bri 0 Posted April 25, 2007 I don't really like the idea of buying a dog at a pet store. They've developed a rather poor reputation in terms of both dog care associated with thei supply chain and customer service. We get our pups direct from small breeders, last time through puppyfind.com. And we get Collies, so they're hard to come by.
